that you don't own. I really don't think that's legal, and I'm not so

told us that we (MFC) should consider ourselves an extension of them. So should

we condone this sort of thing, which is clearly a violation of the copyright

of the Parc des Princes DVD?

Gary, if you have a copy of the PdP DVD, take a look at it.

 

On the back of the DVD case it says,

 

"copyright 2008 Casablanca Music under exclusive license to

Universal Island Records Ltd... blah blah...

Unauthorized copying, reproduction,

hiring, lending, public performance or broadcasting of this DVD prohibited."

 

I think broadcasting it on uStream falls under this.

All the legalities involved in something like this are very complicated. Even if Universal were to agree to something like this, that doesn't necessarily mean they would get the "green light." For example, a little while ago my mom wanted to use "Kick-Ass" in a video with the cast of the movie — Universal said yes, but Lionsgate said no. There are many different facets to things like this. And considering Mika/Team Mika's busy schedule at the moment, I would think it wise not to add this to their plates.

Yes, as you see I haven't closed the thread... just trying to get you all

to think about what's being proposed here.

Yes this is especially true of Mika. Universal is preventing his own videos from playing on his official YouTube channel.

I think he does mean Spotify -- I'm not sure how that works, though,

because we don't have it here in the US yet. And yeah, I think that

a lot of people are more tech savvy than I am, and know how to

record off of ustream, which I think saves a copy of whatever you stream,

doesn't it? I think it does.

 

In any case, I'm closing this thread, because as I said earlier, we can't

really be seen as condoning a broadcast of the PdP DVD in violation of

its copyright. I think you'd probably rather have us shut you down, than

Universal.

 

And I will also say to Zak -- I know you're an enthusiastic fan, and I

don't really want to dampen that enthusiasm, but you

really need to think things through a little better. This isn't the first

time when you've done or tried to do something that was either a

copyright infringement or questionable. You can't just take others' work,

whether it's their music or their internet posts or their logo,

and do whatever you

want with them -- at least not ethically or legally. I know you're a HUGE

Mika fan -- we all are or we wouldn't be here -- and I know you want to

have your own Mika fan site and all. I get that. But you also need to have

some respect for others -- not just for Mika but for all the Mika fans here.
