Jojotje
this is a nice thread! To talk about Christmas in different countries all over the world! Last weekend we had the celebration of Sinterklaas. A real Dutch tradition. Sint Nicolaas is an old saint who is believed to have lived around the year 280! He used to give gifts to poor children. No adays he gives presents to children, and we celebrate his birthday on the 5th of December. After the Sinterklaasfest Christmas preperations start here! My family celebrates Christmas in Austria, where we have a holiday house. So we will be skiing with Christmas. Allthough on Christmas eve we will have a nice Christmasdinner together. No gifts, but we do have a Christmas tree and Christmas decorations. But before we leave for Austria we will have a Christmas tree in our house in the Netherland as well! Siu
i also got a few things ready for xmas. last sunday, a friend of mine came over & we baked cookies together. we made shortbreads, sugarcookies & some kind of chocolate cookies, shaped like candy cane, coated with white chocolate melted & crushed candy canes on top. my sons were mad at me for freezing them right away. i KNOW them, if i had not done that, we'd have none left already & my turkey is in the freezer That's exactly what happened to the gingerbreads we baked yesterday . Kids were so happy to both bake and eat the cookies that I didn't have the heart to tell them to stop! I guess they must have eaten a kilo of cookies all together , I of course didn't have any . None were left to decorate this time, maybe we'll have more luck the coming weekend . Last year I made a gingerbread house and kids want to make one this year too. We'll see . It's a day's worth of effort . We usually have a traditional Christmas meal but in Edinburgh I haven't been able to find many of the things I'd need: sauerkraut, blood sausages, cowberry jam, layered vanilla waffles, sour apple sauce... well most of the things , which means that I'll have to start discovering the local Christmas meal traditions. I have tried to make a new vertion of a recepy for a bread "pan de jamon" traditional here in y country cause my mom doesn't like too much the traditional recepy she always use ...so yeah were sort of experimenting This looks truly delicious! And it my first MFC Christmas too!
