A 27 ans seulement, le chanteur a déjà une belle carrière derrière lui. Rencontre à l’occasion d’un passage en France, avant un concert unique à Compiègne.

Pantalon orange, mèche de cheveux de la même couleur, sourire enfantin, Mika est à Paris. Révélé en 2007 avec son premier album Life in a Cartoon Motion vendu en France à plus de 1,2 million d’exemplaires, il s’apprête à sortir son troisième disque. Mercredi dernier, le chanteur avait d’ailleurs fait spécialement le voyage depuis Londres pour en parler à quelques journalistes. Et c’est en avant-première que le chanteur américano-libanais de 27 ans chantera quelques-uns de ses nouveaux morceaux lors d’un concert unique en France le 9 juillet à Compiègne.

FRANCE-SOIR En cinq ans, vous êtes devenu une star…

Mika Non, je ne suis pas une star. C’est marrant, parce que je peux faire plusieurs concerts à Bercy et ensuite me promener dans la rue, très tranquillement. Les gens me regardent mais ne m’abordent pas souvent. Je ne suis pas dans les tabloïds, je ne suis pas un people. Heureusement, parce que je dis beaucoup de conneries et si ça se savait, je serais chassé de tous les endroits de Paris !

F.-S. Il est question que vous emménagiez à Paris. Qu’en est-il ?

M. J’habite à Londres et j’ai aussi une maison aux Etats-Unis car je travaille beaucoup là-bas. Pour Paris, c’est une fausse info, ce n’est pas la première… J’adore venir ici mais je ne pourrais y pas vivre car toute ma famille est à Londres. Honnêtement je fais tellement de tournées, que ça fait cinq ans que j’habite nulle part. Ou plutôt un peu partout.

F.-S. Pourquoi présenter vos nouvelles chansons sur scène ?

M. Je ne présenterais pas l’album entier, je vais juste essayer quelques titres. Je ne voulais faire qu’un concert en France, cet été et je voulais que ce soit en plein air, pour qu’il ait un goût de festival. J’ai choisi Compiègne car le lieu est très beau. Bon, je ne connais pas encore la ville mais j’ai téléchargé plein de plans de Compiègne sur mon ordinateur. Comme ça maintenant, je sais où c’est…

F.-S. A quoi peut-on s’attendre sur ce nouveau disque ?

M. Ce sera un album très pop en anglais, avec aussi des chansons en français. Pour cela, j’ai choisi un parolier qui s’appelle Dorian, c’est lui qui avait fait écrit la version française de Grace Kelly. Je dois vous avouer que ça me fait un peu peur de chanter dans la langue de Molière…

F.-S. Quels thèmes allez-vous aborder ?

M. Il s’est passé beaucoup de choses dans ma vie privée dernièrement. L’accident de ma sœur Paloma (qui a fait une chute du 4e étage de son appartement londonien, avant de s’empaler sur une grille en octobre 2010, NDLR) m’a fait beaucoup réfléchir. Du coup, j’ai pris une petite pause et, cette fois-ci, je voulais des titres qui ne soient pas trop enfantins. J’ai donc écrit douze chansons d’amour et de tolérance. L’album va s’appeler The Origin of Love. Je suis en train d’enregistrer entre Los Angeles, Miami et Montréal. Pour l’instant, il y a sept chansons prêtes, et il m’en faut douze.

F.-S. Comment va votre sœur ?

M. Elle fait énormément de progrès. Elle se bat. Elle est en train de surprendre tout le monde… Elle veut prouver qu’elle pourra marcher de nouveau et mener une vie complètement normale. Je n’ai aucun doute quant à sa réussite et les docteurs sont mêmes très étonnés. Ça a été dur pour moi, mais, travailler à fond sur ce nouveau disque m’a vraiment aidé.
