That's neat!

I came home today and showed my dad, and he goes "Did they have any Obama ones?" and I said "Nope, I didn't see any there OR at CVS" and he goes ":shocked:But the ones they sell out of are usually the ones who win the election."

I said "Yeah but I've NEVER seen one, so many they don't make them...?"

That just made me laugh out loud. For some reason, I pictured a guy with a completely horrified look on his face, like Obama being elected is the end of his world.:naughty:

Here's me all drugged up on antibiotics in my John McCain mask.

I think Canada's like the UK in that you get your elections done much quicker than in the US. In fact, I don't think anyone drags elections out longer than America! Do you all think it's necessary/ helpful to have almost a year's worth of primaries, caucuses etc? I must admit I prefer our way, myself- we have about 2 months of campaigning on average

But one disadvantage in having the governing party call the election, sometimes at very short notice, is they have an advantage in gearing up to campaign. It does mean that an unpopular leader can be made to go without having to wait for a "term of office" to be completed though. Again, what do others think?

American politics are pretty drawn out and can be pretty confusing, especially when you get into local, state, and national elections, electing people, passing measures, enforcing measures...:hypo:

I think that's kinda what happens when you try to please everyone too much. Things get complicated and you end up pleasing no one.:bleh:

I do like that our governing parties can't call the elections, though, but maybe that's just because I tend to like routines and schedules more than the average person.:naughty:

Generally, a leader will be unpopular to somebody, because our political parties are so divided, but they can be impeached if they do something illegal, and if found guilty, they can be taken out before their term is over. But only two presidents have ever been impeached in US history, so it isn't a perfect system, because obviously, more than two have done illegal activities or have infringed on the basic human rights they're hired to protect.

Canada is also like the UK in the way that we don't have proportional representation. How is it fair that the Conservatives got roughly 40% of the vote, and 130-something seats (how many was it again? Around that...) and the Greens got 6% (!!) of Canada's vote--and got NO seats?? How is that even POSSIBLE?

And the fact that 3000 people in our riding voted NDP--and our NDP candidate has been out of the running for over half the campaign duration. 3000! 3000 people who essentially voted for the Conservatives, just because they were too lazy or stupid to inform themselves. Had they voted Liberal, we would no longer have a Conservative representative--who is, incidentally, a total bastard. I'm not saying that uninformedly, either; I've met him.

Did you guys catch the last debate? Holy cow!

The dirty duo did some right filthy mudslinging at each other.:naughty:

In other news (well, in MY news), my absentee ballot came in the mail today!:woot_jump:

It's now resting on my desk, leaning rakishly against a framed photo, just waiting to be opened like a present at Christmas. Sadly, I have class in half an hour, but oh, how the blue envelope beckons me.:wub2:

He doesn't like Canada or England? I didn't know that.:boxed:

I get tired of McCain talking about Joe Plumber, and I get tired of hearing Obama say "the past eight years" and "four more years" etc.

Our TV news said that Joe the Plumber was not a real plumber

after all - just someone the campaign managers had "made up",

and the guy was something totally different!! :naughty:

Joe Plumber is some guy who confronted Obama on the campaign trail and asked why he planned on raising taxes on his business he'd worked his whole life for.

Or at least that's what I heard. *shrug*

Anyone want some LOLpresidents?

He really is a plumber who is from Ohio that Obama met while campaigning, like Sarie said. He confronted Obama on his tax plan; they got the whole thing on video. He was planning on buying a business but the business makes over $250,000 a year which is the amount at which Obama will start his tax increase. He also said if Obama supports the American Dream then why will he increase taxes on small businesses. At the debate Obama said that 98% of small businesses don't make over $250,000 therefore will be exempt from the tax increase. Believe it or not, that number is pretty accurate. You never know when politicians throw out statistics. So Joe is actually better off than the majority of small business owners.

Joe also wanted to know why he should all of a sudden start getting taxed after working hard for so many years. Obama said that he wanted to help the people below Joe get a chance at success like Joe did. He said in order to make up for the tax cuts for people who make less money, he's going to start taxing people who earn more to make up for the cuts. Thus the talk that Obama is a socialist.

And now it's this huge deal because both candidates talked about Joe the Plumber at the debate more than anything else. McCain brought it up and said that he will help Joe buy his business and then Obama defended his tax plan.
