An interview in March 2016,

Mika talks about the concert at the Centre Bill in 2008

1• Club Soda

  • Mars 2007

Ce clash me ressemblait énormément.

Spoiler
Quebec and Mika is a special relationship.
"It's something special," says the singer on the phone.
I invest a lot in Quebec, but it is not a one-way relationship.
I receive a lot from the public. "

The Journal has traced 5 highlights of the love story between Mika and our Beautiful Province.

1 • Club Soda
  • March 2007
In a packed Soda Club, the singer presents us the pop-pop songs of Life in Cartoon Motion, his first album released a few weeks ago.
"It was my very first visit to Montreal. One hour by plane from New York, I discovered a new world, which was not at all in the shadow of the United States, which had an identity, a different culture ... French, English and foreign language! This clash looked a lot like me. I am someone who deeply mixes French and English. When we come from everywhere and from nowhere at the same time, we look for places where we feel comfortable. And I immediately felt at home in Montreal. "

2 • Bell Center
  • January 2008

Sign of a dizzying ascent, less than a year after stepping on the boards of Club Soda, Mika attacks the Bell Center, the first arena of his career. The 32-year-old singer has a special memory of the concert: fear.
"I had a manager who was a little genius 10% of the time, then a total idiot 90% of the time. It was the first night of a tour in North America. Nobody told me it was a big room. I was not ready for that. At all. When he showed me the size of the arena, I started crying. I started screaming. It was not the reaction he hoped for. I had a show made to measure for small theaters of 1500 people. But there, with my lack of experience, I had to sing for 10,000 people. It was a nightmare ... like when we dream of getting to school and having to do an exam on something we have not studied. But I had no choice: I jumped into the void and finally, it was an exceptional moment. That evening, I understood something that is still useful today: the less you have stuff on stage, the more you get the attention of the audience. The connection is better. "

3 • Accompanied by the OSM
  • February 2015
In a crowded symphonic house, Mika revisits his repertoire. Under the direction of Simon Leclerc, the OSM accompanies the singer on Grace Kelly, Boum Boum Boum, She tells me, Relax (Take it Easy) and several other hits. The audio recording of the show will appear the following autumn.
"There is an energy in Montreal that makes people say yes more than they say no. It's great, because no, it's a cancer for creativity. It destroys everything. It is not by chance that it was in Montreal that I was offered to sing my own songs in a symphonic hall. It's a creative city. "

4 • Quebeckers are courting him
  • February 2016
Coach at The Voice, the most beautiful voice in France, Mika is recruiting two Quebec candidates, Tamara Webber Fillion, from Saint-Georges de Beauce, and Gabriella, a violinist from Montreal. These repêchages occur one year after that of another Quebecer, David Thibault, that Mika had guided to the final.
"The vocal demonstrations do not interest Tamara and Gabriella. They are very delicate. They are multi-instrumentalists. They manipulate their voice with skill. They are quite impressive. "

5 • Special guest
  • March 2016
On Sunday, La Voix will welcome Mika, who will deliver a performance to more than 2.5 million viewers. The singer intends to take advantage of the moment to give some advice to competitors and establish a connection with them. "As a coach at The Voice, I saw guests getting involved for 30 minutes, not to mention the candidates, who are, it must be said, the real stars of the show. When the stars invited to The Voice do not invest, viewers feel it because they have followed the candidates for weeks. They are themselves invested. As if it was their family. We must respect participants who work like crazy for weeks to get to where they are. "
