Whomever knows the story of Facteur Cheval (postman Cheval), knows the Palais Idéal is an extraordinary place to visit. Imagine the place adorned by the lights and sounds of your favourite popstar!

The day started on a funny note as Mika’s light technicians entered the Palais. They were speaking amongst themselves and commented on the displayed picture of Mika’s For The Rite Of Spring Tour with the white flower. Prisca was sitting next to me and translated: “They think that it looks as if he’s holding celery stalks.” We both had a good laugh, because now we can’t unsee it!

We were able to visit the Palais during the day as we were queueing. The venue could hold up to a thousand people, so we knew it would be an intimate and special gig. They were building the stage in front of the Palais, with tourists walking around the equipment.

Oh the Palais: it is mesmerizing, impressive and incredibly chaotic to the eye at the same time. It would be the perfect background for Mika’s gig later that evening.

After a pleasant day of queuing, thanks to the director of the Palais who was very kind to us the whole day, we were standing with about 30 fans in front row without barrier, just chairs for the less abled.

As the people came in, I noticed that Naomi, Cynthia and myself were the only ones who were visible from head to toe for Mika, as the others had chairs in front them. I then told them we needed to dance as if our life depended on it, because with such a small venue we needed to make sure to set the mood and energize the rest of the visitors in case they needed it. In the end they didn’t, Mika managed all by himself to sway the audience with his witty charm.

Mika told us he almost wanted to cancel, because he had been sick and had lost his voice a bit. However, his doctor kinda said it was okay with the words: “I cannot prevent you from doing something stupid.” So Mika committed on bringing us something magical that evening with the help of the magic of the Palais Idéal. He asked us to help him out by singing along, which we did gladly.

And the show was extraordinary! The lights illuminating the Palais as Mika was singing. It was absolutely breathtaking for both ears and eyes. The atmosphere was so energetic, that we needed to let some more energy out at the end of the gig as they played the Yo-Yo R3HAB remix.

We tried to see Mika after the show, but he quickly drove by in the car and waved us from behind a closed window. Understandable, as he had to fully recover from his cold…because we of course wanted to see him healthy and fit in London!
