Nice report

My first impressions/reactions were particularly enthusiastic :D

:bye:

We had a crazy night at crazyweek :teehee:

I had a lot of funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn :D

I'm a happy bunny, can't stop smiling :fangurl:

One of the best Mika gigs I've attended, he sang in such a heartfelt way and his voice was pure and crystal clear (audio was excellent at the back)

A proper report will follow soonish

Updates from mika show in nice: support act now

Here's my Nice report, which as you may have guessed, is very positive:

I arrived at the venue at 5 o' clock, it was hot, but breezy, staying in the shadow was very pleasant.

The soundcheck had already started and lasted very long, it went on for I'd say almost an hour and a half more: waiting with such a background music was relaxing and exciting at the same time.

The venue was located in a beautiful green area and on the other side of the road you could admire a crystal blue sea.

The support act was good, I liked them despite the ear-splitting audio; I don't understand the use of such a high volume, you can't really enjoy the music.

Fortunately the audio with Mika was excellent and lower, at least at the back, where I was.

Mika:

it was a special gig to me, like Rome and Milan in 2010.

He looked fresh, relaxed and his voice was at the top, he doesn't always hit the highest notes again and again, and he did it here.

I lost myself in his voice, especially during UW, HE, TOOL, I got goosebumps and got emotional during many other songs: Rain, Celebrate, Karen, EMD.

Rain was really epic!!

Although the first few old songs - BG, BIOTG, Relax, BB - bored me a little, I fully enjoyed all the rest!

It started at 9.50 and finished at about 11.25, so it was quite a long set.

I had the time of my life, singing, dancing, screaming, I was feeling as one together with him and the audience, and that doesn't always happen.

Before the gig, I was wondering, whether I would have enjoyed Mika shows as much as in the past; I wasn't sure, since during the last 2 years I had changed, and so had he.

But the magic was back, if possible even more. His singing was so heartfelt and flawless, a true blessing; I was in heaven: no time or space anymore, just me and him.

There was a special connection between him and the crowd, who became like a single wave singing, moving, having fun in unison; maybe the shape of the venue - an amphitheater - helped create a sense of union.

There was plenty of interaction: he involved us, danced and jumped a lot: during EMD, Celebrate, LT, Rain, Lollipop, WAG we all went crazy, it was like a huge party. I felt overwhelmed with joy and love, it was a very strong feeling. It was as if nothing bad could happen any more and if there was a chance that the world would become a better place.

It's been a long time since I've felt so alive.

There were lovely and funny moments like the one when he sat at the piano to play LOLA: he said that he wanted to play more the piano, because during the last tour he had become lazier and lazier, and that we should expect him make lots of mistakes, but, as he forgot the key -feeling an idiot for that - he gave up. He said that forgetting what he was supposed to play had been his worst nightmare.

(I heard that his mum told him off for that) :teehee:

LOLA from YT by user SilteplaitxHaflinger thank you!

I adored that performance of Lola, and had tons of fun. It's one of my fave songs live atm.

Not fond of the French/mixed version of GK, but it's not bad for a change plus I love him singing in French. And I'm very happy to have listened to Karen, one of my beloved songs!

Mika really fed off the audience, who were very responsive, he was very energetic, joked and danced a lot and reveled in the beautiful 3000 places amphitheater, which was packed.

I really love the new songs, they sound very good live, and like the new arrangement of Lollipop.

Forget youtube, live it's something else. As we all know, he's a fantastic performer and the recordings don't make him justice.

The members of the new band are good and professional, even if I feel them more distant than the old ones. I miss Martin and Cherisse.

If I compare Nice to Vigevano, I had the feeling that in France he was at home, more relaxed, at ease and himself, while in Italy it was like he was away from home, I perceived the effort (it was a great gig as well though).

Towards the end of the show his voice was tired, he really gave 200%, but nevertheless he wanted to sing TOOL, and this performance made me fall in love with the song.

He came out at about 00.30: unfortunately the fans didn't form a line, but went all around him, so he didn't stay long; I just managed to say a quick hello to him while he was leaving, and I must say, that he's still his old sweet and lovely self. His smile is a true gift.

I couldn't help but keep on smiling for days afterwards.

I'll archive this show among my most precious Mika treasures; I know that this report will warm my heart and put a smile on my face, every time I read it.

It was nice seeing again a few fans and meeting others for the first time, I hope I'll have a chance to meet the others in the future.

PS: I loved this gig so much that I even liked the hat :teehee:

Thank you everyone for reports, pics, videos, I've enjoyed them all! :wub2:

I guess I need to write my report before I start catching up on all the videos, threads etc I havent seen these past few days that I've been in France. First thing I want to say is that both Nice and Vienne have definitely become my most favorite gigs so far! They've been beyond amazing and all the new songs sound even more brilliant live:wub2:

The performance of Underwater was sooo beautiful!! I was so much looking forward to hearing this song live ever since I first watched the video of its premiere in Seoul last year. It really is the type of song that gives you goosebumps when you listen to it live kinda like Over My Shoulder.

Lola sounded also 100% brilliant!!! After this performance in Nice I love this song even more. Celebrate was fantastic as well!! You just cant help but sing along to it. It radiates such a positive, optimistic and happy feeling especially when he sings I'm cooooming home, thats my favorite part of the song!

and what can I say about the Origin of Love other than :wub2::wub2: I adore this song

Also the old songs sound so fresh! Loved the intro to Blue Eyes and the new version of Lollipop. Starting the gig with Big Girl was also a great idea too! The performances of Rain and Happy Ending were definitely some of the best we've heard so far, they were sung with such emotion and heart. The last part of Love Today when he has 'killed' the band and leaves the bassist to sing on his own is so funny. Wish someone has that on video.

Hearing Karen again was a fantastic surprise too, I had missed hearing it live so much!!! The reaction that Elle me Dit got from the audience was phenomenal! It's such a powerful and amazing moment when everyone sings pourquoi tu gaches ta vie as loud and as enthusiastically as they can.

One more thing that I have to say is that I was very very happy to see Mika play the piano again!!!

About the m&g I think it's really kind of him to come and meet the fans even though he must have been really tired! I had printed the origin of love illustration that he posted on twitter a few days ago and got it signed. I'm very grateful for that!!

Thank you Netina! :wub2: I'm loving your report so much, coz I can totally relate to it, I could have written it myself, I had exactly the same feelings (a part from Vienne, as I wasn't there :D).

You managed to describe very well the atmosphere and the songs in a few lines, kudos to you! :thumb_yello:

I loved your report :wub2:

Sometimes I felt like you were describing the Vienne gig, it seems like we had a similar experience. Maybe because both gigs were in these fantastic venues that are amphitheatres.

Mika en interview au Crazy Week pour Le Mensuel

 Anybody translate it ?

Done :naughty:

Journalist: On your new album are there songs in French?

Mika: There are songs in French, there's "Karen"," l'amour dans le mauvais temps", "Elle Me Dit" and also a song called "Un soleil mal luné" and maybe another one, but I'm not sure yet. I've wanted to sing songs in French for a very long time, but since I speak French rather well, but not totally fluently , it is very hard for me to write in French. So I waited and I met a friend called Dorian who is an artist and a lyricist and I immedially thought it would work with him that he was the right person. The first song we wrote together was Karen" , then many others and two hours before taking the train back to London and we were wondering what to do and he said "I'm fed up with sad songs , so depressing" and I answered to him "You sound like my mother when I was little , I was writing sad songs and she was telling me -can't you write a happy song? -" (chanson contente)

He said to me: "You can't say 'chanson contente ' (happy doesn't apply to a song in French , only to a person) and I told him "But I do"and I started joking and adding a 90s dico tune dididididid and I sang to him "Elle me dit écris une chanson contente" and he answered back "pas une chanson déprimante" and we laughed and then we looked at each other and said s*** "maybe there's something there , a concept , let's do it.

Journalist: The album, The Origin Of Love is very different than the two first ones, how was it born?

Mika: There were many changes in my life, I moved , for the first time I found myself not at school, not at college, not a waiter in a restaurant, not in a tour , not in a studio , I had nothing. It was the first time I had nothing. I told myself it was huge , I did so many things and now I have nothing to do and suddenly my life changed very fast , there was a change in my personal life and also in my family as my sister had a terrible accident which shocked me , she was in a very serious condition, I waited until she was stable and as soon as she was I went away , I said good bye to everyone and left for Montreal to work with someone and that same night I wrote "The Origin Of Love" which gives its tittle to the album and I didn't come back home until six months after that. I fell in love and for a year I wrote the songs as if it were my personal diary , for the first time the songs were not about other people lives and loves, but about my own during a very intense period of my life.

Journalist: How do you manage to mix the happiness of your music and the depth of your texts?

Mika: There's always this duality and this contrast between the lyrics which are rather serious (he laughs) rather depressing and the music that makes you smile and dance. I don't know why , maybe it is the Lebanese side, which makes us scream and we cry in the same sentence , there is a war but we are in a restaurant eating and dancing and also maybe because I realized that the melody and happiness in a music is a power, it gives power, it gives strength.

Journalist: You are in Crazy Week!!! For an exceptional date this summer but is there going to be a tour?

Mika: There are festival this summer in France, then a tour in France , then a tour all over europe, then the United States, then more countries, but for Paris I will be in Le Casino de Paris, I didn't want to have a gig in Le cirque d'hiver because I already performed there and I loved it, but I wanted to try a different stage. Those are amazing places , I mean Casino de Paris and Cirque d'Hiver , someday I'd love to perform in Le Chatelet but if I did it would have to be a visual and theatrical exceptional show that would last two hours and have lots of visual effects to create a whole world . This is what I would really love to do at the end of this album, a show in Le Chatelet. One night in Le Chatelet and I'm sure I will lose lots of money but I'm used to losing money when I sing only one night in a place like this. (He smiles happily) but If you can' t have a beautiful night like this, what's the point of doing all this?

Journalists: Before the release of the album, aren't you afraid of the public reaction since they don't know all your new songs yet?

Mika: You never know because sometimes songs that were never aired on the radio become the most important on stage because the audience has the feeling that the songs are for them , those are stage songs, they take their real place on stage . The very first time I sang" Elle Me Dit" in Compiegne, in a festival there were ten thousand people before me and the song was already on the radios and I went on stage and I was so excited about singing it for the first time , I sang it and I was looking at the audience and they were clapping in their hands , that was all, a rather neutral reaction so I thought they didn't like it but what happened is that they were listening to it because they didn't now the song. Now when I sing it on stage, they know the lyrics by heart and that's a feeling that I love. (Huge happy smile on Mika's face) Promotion, TVs , radios, all that is ok, but when I'm on stage , I remember the reason why I'm doing all this. And when people are with me , it gives me energy, it reassures me.

Journalists: You became an idol for many fans. Did you have an idol yourself?

Mika: Non, I didn't have 'idols when I was a teenager. I didn't have posters on my walls, but I had records and cassettes , I was clearly obsessed by music but for me I listened to pop music, to the Rolling Stones, to Nirvana, along with Ines Moon? Shaparex? even Moustaki and Brel and Gainsbourg . For me it all this was just music and I think I was really lucky because I didn't care about marketing, just about music and I listened to it in a naive way. So I'll say you have to destroy idols before they destroy you . For exampleI am obsessed by Bjork, I love her but I don't wnat to meet her because perhaps she' ll be a twat. It reassures me. I mean I'm sure she isn't a twat, but you never know the truth and I don't want to know the truth (joking smile) It's best to hide from your idols.

lovely interview! Mika playing at the Chatelet would be beyond amazing:wub2:

Also what he says about Elle me Dit live is so true. The audience starts going crazy the moment they hear the first notes of the songs, it's so obvious they adore it!!
