-Recently, you have become a friend of the singer Mika, a myth for young people.

"He was here at my house last week, he is a very smart and cultured guy and we are working together: think to the fact that he asked me a copy of the book "Forgotten Callas" [a book written by Dario Fo and his wife, Franca Rame] for himself and another one for his mother, he is a very sweet person. "

-But... who is the youngest? (Mika, real name Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr. is 31 years old).

To this question Fo does not respond and simply laughs, suggesting: "Ehh I'd like to... (being the youngest) ... ."

Thank you!!:wub2:

Daily19 is fantastic ! Have you listened to his beautiful voice while he's teaching to Mario and Emma? :wub2:

In the video, Mika promises to Emma to sing with her the song of this week, Un'estate fa, after XF.. on a stage . They did a formal promise, spitting on their hands ... :teehee:

...a stage.... which stage??? who knows...

I ask just out of curiousity: anyone knows who is the man with Mika and Alessandro Raina in the dressing room?

I have his name on the tip of my tongue but it doesn't come to my mind!

Yeah! I've really loved it!! I laughed so hard when I saw Mario's face as Mika was speaking to him in French! Gonna post both of them tomorrow, promise!

This year he is giving an image of himself much less "funny" and much more professional. A musician, a cultured man, a serious voice teacher. The job that he's doing with his team is much more interesting than last year.

I see him uncomfortable when the other judges emphasize his mistakes (few!) in Italian, he seems not to be happy to return to the image of the past year or to the mechanism of "Mika's funny jokes and words". It seems to me that this year he doesn't want to see the public laughing but listening to him. :wink2:

That's my feeling as well. Moreover, this year he is very fortunate to have in his team two amazingly talented people, true artists,as Mika says :thumb_yello: I can't even say which one is the best, they have both an innate endowment, everything comes in a natural way. It's such a big difference comparing to last year, and I believe he's aware of that :thumb_yello:

I made it! Translation of the 17th Daily. Sorry for the delay!

Currently working on the 19th!

:italia::uk:

EM: Phisically I feel like I have spent the whole night in a disco

MA: and being drunk

EM: yes

(the guy whose name I don’t remember): the last week we did a song like this, doing it again is a nonsense

MI: easy guys… let’s meditate together, we never stop. Now, we have to make choices, and they have to be totally right, and I also think we don’t have to step back, and we also have to sing in Italian

EM: “sings a bit of Happy Ending”

MI: let’s go!

AR: let’s go let’s go

MA: I’m sure that as soon as they arrive our fantasies will fade away

MI: today…

AR: zen

MI: they have this capacity of being… as well

MA: yes, Mario in particular has it

MI: yes

MA: let’s see how the other will (I didn’t get what he said). I’m curious

MI: May I?

MA: come in, come in!

MI: I’ve learned it now! We always say “permesso” (may I?), I don’t know the reason why but,, anyway, it’s fine.

I’m very happy with my team, the whole “travel” we’re doing together. So How’re you?

MA: fine, I’m happy

MI: let’s concentrate on your performance because I think you don’t know that

EM: what?

MI: my opinion, you often know it, but not this week. Let’s begin from you Mario

MA: ok

MI: and watch your performance

MA: I’m happy! I’m happy with the way I sang too, the most important thing is to be able to touch the people hearts, even only for a second

MI: I saw a boy, a man who gained control, who soaked all comments and arguments and worked hard. You have to be opened, the body language is something really important, when you’re watching it, you have to be opened, when you are like this, I can see you’re not opened to learn. You must be opened, relaxed, we’re here to go on. You did good, you sang well. We saw Mario again.

His personality is changing

MA: when watching the performance I was happy, I must say that, I was happy

MI: well, me too. He left home all the things that scares him, but despite this he was himself again

The only thing I missed was a little bit of cuteness, not emotion-wise but vocal-wise. I can be very honest and sincere, in order not to lose time, because we cannot loose a single day or week.

Guys, this is for you: when you’re on stage, it is better to start a little bit softer, in a controlled way, and then add strength

MA: if he tells me what I have to fix, I know what to work on

MI: I wanna do something amazing with you, for this reason I wanna be a bit hard, even harder than this

MA: harder than this?

MI: yes, but this is my way of showing love. I like Mario, and I also like the way he sings, I like his musicality, his story, being harsh is my way to show my love for this guy, for both of them. From “alexarmussi”: Mario gets nicer and nicer, when he arrived he seemed like someone who had just run away from home , (laughs) it’s true, it’s true. From “Annasky95” I love Mario, seeing him with his guitar is even better. Yes, the easier, the more effective.

MA: I feel at ease in this so…

MI: let’s take a look at your performance Emma

EM: yes. When I went on stage I felt like going working, for the first time ever

MI: the voice, shh, softly, then let’s go on. There was the magic combination: intensity, heart, the serious and deep aspect, but elegant and not heavy at the same time

EM: silence

MI: silence, do you know that, when Billie Holiday sang this song for the very first time, at the end of her concert, in a club in New York, the audience was so shocked that there wasn’t a clap of hands for almost two minutes and she wanted to cry but she stayed on stage like this

EM: it was a shared moment of life and you know

MI: you did an important performance, in your xfactor story and in your life and in your career. This girl’s story is unbelievable and the challenges she had to face in her family life and in her personal life, not only are they very hard but they are important, when she says something, she’s always sincere

EM: it’s been lovely watching it, I, I mean, I barely recognized myself, I took a step out of me and I looked at myself

MI: this is positive, this isn’t negative, you understood the separation between the artist and the real life

EM: something inside of me just went off, like a love for myself and for what I do, a pride, and I’m comprehending the work I’m doing, the progress I’m having, I felt very strong and… believable

MI: this is an amazing thing, you’ve become a performer. Ok, the comments, “Spinter”: she never lets us down, Emma lives in her own magic world in which she drags us every time she sings”. Oh wow! The most incredible thing with this kind of magic, is that it was spread both through the audience in the studio and through the audience watching from home. “She left me speechless, yes, we already know your skills but this time you’ve crossed every border. Saying that she’s amazing is an understatement” Wow, Jesus

EM: “Ines Agresti” so kind of you to tell me that I’m good!

MI: so, guys!

EM: well, if we have been able to sing “Strange fruit” in Xfactor, we can now do whatever we want, all my fears have fade away

MI: exactly! Thank you for trusting us!

EM, MA: thanks to you!

MI: we’re here for you, really, to show your value, bye

MA: it wasn’t bad

EM: no, all comments were absolutely positives

MI: there are two rounds, so

AR: yes, but they don’t know it

MI: we have to, do they? Good, it’s better this way

MA: why didn’t I find myself at ease with my guitar? (I’m not 100% sure he says that)

MI: Emma!

EM: yes? Oh I get to go first this time!

MI: yes you’re the first. Now, HEY! Don’t look at it!

EM: It’s blank!

MI: it’s not for you!! There’s gonna be two rounds

EM: ok, as usual, isn’t it?

MI: two rounds, for the two of you

EM: ah! For both of us

MI: two songs

EM: for all contestants?

MI: for everyone

EM: I’ll sing twice

MI: twice, yees, twice!

EM: I’m not worried, the other way round, I’m very happy to sing twice

MI: do you wanna listen to the first song?

EM: yeah. Hahaah can’t believe that!

AR: do you know it?

EM: I know it because I’ve already sung it at Bootcamps: “Pop Porno”. I’m really curious to listen to the difference between the Bootcamp “Pop Porno” and the one that I’m gonna sing here, in the 5th show

MI: It’s not a challenge, this first round is a war. Second round, another thing, totally different. This is a song I know VERY well in French. (sings in French), Emma’s song for the next show is “Un’estate fa” (The last Summer) that is originally a French song by a French artist called Michel Fugain

EM: lovely, I’m a bit scared because it’s not… it’s very different from what I thought I would sing

MI: it’s a perfect song, do you like it?

EM: yeah!

MI: you’ll see! Go warm yourself up!

MA: this week we’ll sing in Italian

MI: Mario!

MA: drrrr drum roll!

MI: I’m sorrry but there’s gonna be two rounds and two songs

MA: wow! This thing is scaring me a bit because either the show lasts twice the time it normally would or there is something we’ve missed…

MI: listen to the song we chose for the first round:

MA: (sings), yeah, I like it. I’ve been given “E non andar più via” from Lucio Dalla

MI: Dalla’s song was a landmark moment in his career and in this competition, he had a standing ovation. It’s a hard song to sing and you’re gonna do this in a on-minute-cut, which is a very aggressive cut, you have to sing it very easily, in a very clean and effective way. The second song for the next week is “Ragazzo mio” from Luigi Tenco, a really famous song, a song that… that has everything

MA: great

MI: yeah! An amazing song! Do you like this song?

MA: yes, the song is fabulous

MI: this song is very important in the history of…

MA: I’ve never heard it before, never

MI: haven’t you?!

MA: no, never, but well, I like the song

MI: I’m a foreigner, he’s from Sardinia, he has no excuses for not knowing this song! You’ve got to work hard, you’ve got to study this song, please!

MA: I really have to work hard to learn the lyrics and the music straight away

MI: go on with strength, with courage, we’re with you

(they assume a meditating position)

MA: me too?

Alessandro Raina nods

Daily 19

:italia: and a bit of :france: to:uk:

MI: Hi!

EM: how nice you are!

MI: (he takes a bow) how is it going?

EM: fine, I like it, I have some problems with the metric, I don’t know when to sing the words

MI: let’s do bla bla bla (sings) let’s forget the words

EM: ok

MI: it’s not… it turns too romantic, that’s not the song meaning. There’s this fantastic combination, the melancholy together with this freaking beautiful melody, very catchy. The piano, simpler, one, two, three, four (sings) this way, even a bad sound, almost with a…

EM: bad

MI: bad voice, yes. Emotionless please.

EM: I wasn’t really sure about the melody but as he add his harmony he dragged me, I mean, I followed him in the dynamic, everything was amazing

MI: (in French) one, two, three, four. (italian) Less nasal please. This time with words. One two three four. (she sings) ok!

EM: I’m voiceless today!

MI: I know I working really quickly, it’s not casual. When we work quickly, we don’t have time to think, when we think too much we sing… bad

EM: this method could really work, Mika!

MI: higher please

EM: cleaner? No Mika! Because I can’t

MI: yes! Yeees!

EM: do the chorus, today I am…

MI: I’m here, you’re my puppet now, please

EM: ok! But

MI: when I move my hands like this you move your mouth (laughs) one, two ,three, four

She’s working not only on her voice, but also on herself

EM: come on stage and sing it with me, I beg you! It’s much more beautiful!

MI: if you sing it well, this week, I make you a promise

EM: what?

MI: we’ll do it together somewhere on a stage after Xfactor

EM: somewhere…. Ok, that’s the reason that I will have to work

MI: bye

EM: bye!

MI: HEY! (in French)* Come on, good you don’t know the song yet but I’m sure

MA: ah!! What?? I don’t speak French

MI: (always in French) it’s an opportunity for you, to do something good, a great song of the Italian culture

MA: I only understood “a great Italian song”, that’s all!

MI: (laughs) (in Italian) don’t sing to close to the original Tenco’s version. He’s a raconteur who shows his best when he has great songs that have very personal messages

MA: he wants things to be done in the right way

MI: I don’t wanna hear the “sand”, now, when you sing in this way, it’s not, it’s not the pure voice. I want the pure voice, one two, three, four. Eh! The light! Yes…. Stop! (sings) almost a lyric performance please, this way. So… when you go down, you have to use this, ok?

MA: ok?

MI: can I?

MA: yes, sure

MI: ok

Ma: he touched the muscles I have to use when singing. Very useful advice

MI: (sings and then speaks singing) so when I sing there, there’s the same voice quality that I have when singing high , I wanna hear it all, ok?

MA: more than ok

MI: ok, I’ll leave you guys, good work

MA: thank you!

MI: see you soon!

MI: bye

AR: bye

Mi: bye, thank you!

*If anyone is interested, here’s the French transcription of what Mika said to (the poor) Mario:

Hey, allez! Bon, tu ne connais pas encore la chanson mais je suis sûre (laughs) c’est un belle opportunité pour toi de faire quelque chose de vraiment beau, une belle chanson de la culture italienne
