  1. Yeeees but the money doesn't go straight from ticketmaster to his pocket, it goes through a whole series of other people before he's allowed to see it. Aaaand I was simply saying that to put into perspective that he DOES have bills to pay because people seemed to be upset that he was doing something private for lots and lots of money, which obviously makes him a complete sell out. I wasn't discussing his personal earnings, simply hammering home the point that money is a necessity to us all, even him, and just like us, he has to get off his bum if he wants to live in a nice house. That's what I was contesting. It's like he was being judge (at that point of this lengthy, lengthy discussion for actually wanting to have some money. People seemed averse to the idea that he was earning money by doing something that didn't benefit his fans, but benefited himself. Somebody shut him in jail and throw away the key, he's such an awful person. So really, it's two separate subjects. Back then, it was the fact that he needs to earn money and shouldn't feel bad about having to do so. Now however, we're talking about profits etc etc. If you want to talk about what he brings in to his record company, that's more than fair, but what I'm trying to say, and I thought I'd made it clear in my previous post but apparently not, is that if we talk of Mika's finances we talk of something belonging to him. If you're talking of the profitability of his tours/albums/whatever, then it's the profit that the record company are making from him.
  2. So you mean you wish to discuss the finances of the record company? Because it all goes through them first and after they stripped away everything they possibly can, they let him have what's left, just like how every business pays their employees. Mika doesn't actually own the Mika business himself. He's under contract with the record company, so any of "Mika's" finances actually are personal, because it's his personal money, it's not the business as a whole.
  3. Just because newspapers publish it, it doesn't mean it's not personal. It just means that they have no boundaries whatsoever and that we live in a money obsessed culture. How much do you earn? Would you like to give us a full breakdown of your finances? And if not, would you be happy that we start discussing them regardless? It's something people only really talk about with those close to them, and just because Mika's famous, it doesn't mean all aspects of his life can be thrown out so the public can devour them. It doesn't make a blind bit of difference to the music he makes, and let's face it, whether he's rolling in cash or consolidating his debts with Ocean Finance, it's none of our business. Perhaps things are a bit different where you are, but over here it is bad form to openly discuss how much somebody earns. I don't even really know how much my Dad earns, it's that much of a private thing.
  4. A company is not a part of the public domain. It is a private business, and as such, any events it chooses to host for the promotion of its BRAND, not for the promotion of MIKA, are understandably kept private in the run up to it. I wasn't given tickets to the Brit awards when he performed, nor am I given tickets to every corporate event that my favourite comedians perform at. If it was in the newspapers then it has created the desired effect for the BRAND. They have received publicity. Mika isn't the point of it. He's just there for a bit of entertainment and eye candy. He was not the most important person there that night. Not to everyone else there at least. As for showing your support, I'm sure he can get through a private gig without your well wishes, so try not to feel to devastated about that.
  5. They're not different situations. Someone with a lot of money got their people to call his people. A date was set, monies exchanged, and he turned up and sang. The people at the event were guests of the host. They did not pay for their tickets. They are both private. They are both the same. How can you show your support other than by going? His twitter account is still there for you to tweet him and say 'I am supporting you.' But other than that I'm not really sure how you'd go about it.
  6. Yeah, I know he gets an advance, but if he plans to live solely on the advance then he's going to be buying Tesco value baked beans for the foreseeable future. I can't imagine them chucking a couple of hundred grand at him, especially not after sales of the last album weren't so hot as the first. But hey, I don't think he's the only one who'd do a day's work for a big fat cheque. I know I would, and I know many of you would. To be honest, I get the feeling he's fallen out of love with twitter a bit. He was never really what you'd call a regular tweeter, but he'd have a binge every now and then, which was cool. However, I think, and this is only my opinion because I'm not privy to what goes on inside his head (thank goodness XD) that he gets in a certain mindset when he's writing and recording. I know when I'm having a writing binge I shut myself away and don't talk to anyone, and Stephen Fry left twitter for about 3 months to write his Fry Chronicles. I think it's a similar situation, though obviously, Stephen Fry gave official notice, signed off with a kiss then came back with a best seller a short while later. I get that people want him to keep in touch, but for me, personally, it's not too important. I like it when he tweets, but I don't get upset/annoyed/feel neglected if he doesn't. I generally just go with the flow and am quite happy to let him get on with things. But that's just me. And I realise not everyone is like me. Thank god, because there would be far too many arguments and never any biscuits left in the biscuit barrel.
  7. Well let's be honest, the boy's not living in mamma's basement anymore, he's got a mortgage to pay, and the record company aren't going to be handing him cash while he's costing them money in the studio and trying to get string sections and gospel choirs and god knows what else for his budget. I think it's hardly focusing if he does one private gig every couple of months, but that's just me. And yeah, it's tough that there's not an Italian date this summer, but there's not a UK date, or a German date, or a US date or an Australian date either. There were about seven summer shows there last year, which, I know is a long time ago, but the UK tour and euro tour in general was even longer. Nobody wins all of the time, and nobody loses all of the time, I think the best piece of advice I can offer to someone who still feels upset about this is sh*t happens.
  8. Okay, so I saw this thread this morning and have been confused all day about it. People are upset because he was within easy travelling distance of them and performing a gig? Hell, whenever he's home he's within easy travelling distance of me, but I don't hop in the car and skid to a halt on his doorstep every time he so much as thinks about touching his piano. It was a private event, and I don't recall anybody getting upset when he did the birthday party for that chick back in January (no matter how envious we might have been). I personally, didn't even get too upset when I wasn't allocated tickets for the fiat 500 launch, where the only way to get in was by winning, yet it was still a public thing. Disappointed, yes, but if you're at the point where it ruins your life because other people got to see him and you didn't, you really need to seek help. With regards to his twitter habits, I think he likes to keep his head down when he's focused on writing and recording. He's said before that he likes to lock himself away, and that includes the internet. Some famous people DO tweet more, but with most of the famous folk I follow, it's when they're travelling or in airports etc etc. If he's in and out of the studio every day (more or less) then he's not going to have the idle time that other people have to tweet. I don't think anyone ought to take it as a slight against his fans, because he's just doing his bloody job everyday, and even managing to squash in a session with The All American Rejects (*fan gurl spasm*) so it's not like he's kicking back, reading twitter and thinking, "Ha, I'm not going to tweet just to spite them." In conclusion, don't get upset if you don't get a horsed messenger at your door requesting your immediate presence at a high toned fancy to-do, and if you've got £130k or whatever it is to throw around, then I'm sure he'll be more than happy to show up wherever you see fit and sing you a couple of ditties. I hear for £150k you even get to lick his face, but that's just a rumour.
  9. *sigh* This time last year I was on the District Line being excitable. Psssssssssssssht.
  10. But then mine wouldn't have been so special! [/questionnaire arrogance]
  11. I've played enough games of solitaire today so I'm gonna do this, hahahah 1. My favourite; Mika outfit- The one he wore when exploring Milan on the LICM DVD. Blue and white stripe shirt with the blue blazer and skinny jeans...*sigh* Mika song- My Interpretation...probably. Mika songline-I'm standing across from you / I've dreamt alone now the dreams won't do. Mika quote- No idea. But most of the things he says make me laugh. Bless him. Mika picture- Probably this one: Mika interview- The Chris Moyles one where they talk about car insurance and penguins. Mika video-Kick Ass. Mika merchandise- Dodgy Holiday hoody. 2. If Mika; Hugged me I would- Be very very warm. The man is like a radiator! Shouted my name i would- Ask him what all the noise was about. smiled at me i would- Smile back, because I'm polite like that. danced with me i would- Probably fall about laughing because his dancing, while coming from a good place, is not the sort of dancing you can do together, hahah. 3. I have 0 pictures of mika on my wall 14 (but they're from various shows/m&gs so it's not like I have an entire gallery I drool over all day, hahaha) pictures of mika on my phone 4. If i got to ask mika 3 questions only they would be 1) Tom or Jerry? 2) Raspberry or strawberry? 3) Skinnies or trackies? 5) If i was a mika character i would be- A brand new character called Laura. 6) When i meet mika im going to- Probably be pretty cold, but cheerful nonetheless 7)My favourite ever thread on the mfc- Maybe the Eden or Fringe threads. HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT MIKA? His birthday- Don't know his birthday, not interested in it at all. His family- Are all uncommonly good looking...damn them. Born- In the 80s, the 80s...and as such Calvin Harris has got love, hugs, and things for him. Any other intresting facts- He sprouts wings at night and flies around London, playing pranks on pigeons. TRUE FACT.
  12. Yeah he wasn't there when we got there - remember we were all sitting on the little wall thing and talking about updating twitter and that. I think it was about 5 minutes then he strolled over to us and went CIAO!!! Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh I love him.
  13. I'm definitely not designing a shirt along the same lines as this... This isn't for the t shirt competition btw, this is just for sh*ts and giggles.
  14. LOL fancy seeing you here. It needs to be straight on as well, without his arms being in the way. There is a reason for the fussiness, I swear. Luke's gonna be a very popular guy at the next gig, whenever the hell it is.
  15. Oh shucks Deb...I just point and shoot. Actually that makes me sound like a sniper. Or a ninja assassin.
  16. Hmm, it works for me...anyone else got issues with the SITM video? Maybe try clearing out your temporary internet files cos if it messed up loading once, it's gonna save it messed up until it has to reload again, if that makes sense? Yeah, I didn't even know if he'd see it, because it was just down the side of his presents in the gift bag, but the fact that he remembered it was from me, and remembered what I wrote in it was just so special. I swear, I say this every time I see him, but I keep falling in love with him a little bit more each time, hahaha. He just gets better and better and I said in the card that I often feel smug that I'm a fan of someone who treats his fans so well, and this is just another one of those times. *siiiiigh* Ah sh*t. I miss him. *has vlog binge*
  17. He's such a sweetie. And yeah... I do need to update, I'll get round to it eventually, haha. I guess I'm just lucky in that Mika and I both share the same line on the underground so any stuff he does at home is always gonna be within a reasonable distance. And I have absolutely no responsibilities either. But I guess if you see him less often it makes the times that you do see him that much more special, so it's swings and roundabouts I guess.
  18. Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay so. My report...nearly a week after the actual gig but whatever. Got to the venue just after twelve after a traditional Scottish breakfast (om nom nom haggis), got our numbers, and then I went and set up shop inside the foyer with the tees. Soon enough we got a little sewing circle together to finish sewing the tartan on - thanks to Viv, Rose and Nightbird for helping out with that, it all went a lot more quickly. Ingie, Bubbles, Luke and Vicky provided entertainment throughout the morning and eventually we were kicked out into the rain, but it was ok cos the tshirts had all been finished. Fast forward to going in, and we were told to respect our numbers. Which we did. Bless you Mr Scotsman. Got inside, there was a bit of front row left next to Rose so I went over there, and was soon joined by Deb, So-si and Enigma. Pearl and the Puppets were pleasant enough, nothing too in your face but nothing too memorable either. I blew up my balloon ready for Relax and I think the bass speaker made it explode in my hand, though I was sure it had been shot by a sniper or something. Eventually he came on, and his voice sounded a little bit tired but still brilliant. The whole gig was so much fun, particularly stuck in the middle, with the blowers. I threw my blower on stage and David picked it up and started blowing it. *girly sigh* At one point I was lining up a picture of Mika and he looked straight at me, then at my camera, and I just grinned and clicked the button. It was quite a funny little moment, though I'm yet to find out which picture it was where it happened, but I haven't looked at them properly yet. He messed up his setlist and I think he was supposed to play Kick Ass when he played OMS, but then at the end when he came back out, I saw him go over to David and mouth 'Kick Ass!' and we got it in all its ass kicking glory. The M&G was particularly special - we got to give him his birthday present, which he initially tried to sign after I spent an hour and a half wrapping it so I said 'NO DON'T SIGN IT!! Silly!' and he laughed. And then I called the woman in the shop who lied to me (24 hours, no 7 days, no 14 days *strangles*) a bitch and he laughed. He was really pleased with it, so it definitely made all the late nights and organisation and stress worthwhile. I also asked him if he liked the umbrella I gave him in Cattolica (it was purple, and had the Rain rain drops on alternate panels and Dr John in his paper boat on some sea on the others) and he said 'what umbrella?' and I said 'the purple one' and he said 'oh yes, I liked that'. I thought that was it and then he turned back and said 'and I liked all the little surprises too'. Now, that may seem like a throwaway comment, but it was the bit that actually made me die the most. I got him a birthday card (wasn't planning to, but was in paperchase and saw one that said 'True happiness is fitting into your skinny jeans' and just had to) and I said in it that the surprises were far from over. So basically, he actually read it, and remembered it was from me (he didn't open it while I was there) and also remembered what it said. Hence me dying and being a total fangurl at the end of the m&g video, hahaha. It was a pretty perfect way to end an amazing year, and I'm totally gonna miss his face, but I'll battle on through it. Like it's been said many times, the gig is just a small part and it wouldn't be half as brilliant if I wasn't sharing the experience with so many great people. We absolutely need to see each other again soon, because we can't rely on the soppy one to organise anything in the near future. So yes, this is the last report for the forseeable future. And it makes me sad. But at least my youtube account will be given a bit of a break.
  19. I think she fancied you a little bit. I had some chocolate cake a little while ago...and I'm about to make some Wallace and Gromit cookies, not because I'm hungry, but just because I have some new cookie cutters.
