'If only I were'... most people have forgotten about that correct use of the preterit and I always feel a bit snobbish when I use it. Obviously even very young people still speak and write that way.
Same thing with 'as' at the beginning of a clause instead of 'like', which one hears all the time.
Good for you ! The English language is so beautiful, it should be kept unadulterated.

Have you been fixed, ticketwise, for the Sadler's wells gig ?

Did I read properly ? Will the NYC gig be your first M experience ?
Please report, it is always great to be made happy vicariously, reading what people felt then .
ENJOY !

Hello !
Looking forward to seeing you and Babs again on June 8th. And meeting a few other MFCers for the first time.
I came across a post from you lately about the so called privileges of people who go to many gigs, or cross the pond, or the Mediterranean, or, why not, the whole planet.
I find it deplorable that you should feel the need to justify your choices. FFS, can't people, as we French put it 'take care of their own buttocks' !
Not that yours are uninteresting, I am sure they are absolutely gorgeous, but they are nobody's business apart from yourself, your hubby and possibly a couple of lovers but that's classified information .
I got that kind of reaction when I came back from Beirut, very naively happy to share the Press Conference vid with other MFCers and was soon envied for going to that very special place to watch that very special gig.
I had first the guts to go there -two months before people were enthusiastically shooting each other in the streets- and I spent over one month's salary -hard earned money.
Still I was deemed 'privileged', as you have repeatedly been on the forums.
Is is more sad than annoying as envy is a feeling that gnaws away at people's minds, not those who are its target but those who experience it.
When, after meeting you in London, I became interested in your posts, I thought : this woman is as mad as I am about music, never : the lucky bitch is f...ing bursting with money. And if you are, your luck is not my curse or my loss, it has nothing to do with me.
I even posted a couple of times to try and explain to 'reasonable' and critical MFCers that it was a matter of priorities and that, as far a we knew, you hadn't stolen the money you use to go to M gigs. To no avail, I'm afraid.
Seriously, you're not going to the NYC gig ? I am very disappointed in you, Sara !
See you then,
Marie-Thérèse
