  1. Yeah, $15-20 for an entrée at a not-too-fancy place is about average for New York I think. I was asking because I'm staying in Brooklyn & will need to check-in sometime in the afternoon on the 4th, but I'd be coming from Manhattan so ...maybe it's way too soon for me to be fretting about this kind of thing but that's how i am A couple times after Mika gigs a bunch of us went to a Ukrainian place called Veselka because it was open very late. Otherwise I've mostly gone to chain restaurants for meals in NYC I've been to NYC like 6 times and have never seen the pretty Statue of Liberty except once, from a window in Brooklyn faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar away on a very grey & rainy day. Just looked like a 4 inch tall green blob. I hope your view of it is much better!
  2. Any thoughts on where/what type of restaurant/in what part of NYC we might have our MFC dinner? I was going to suggest the Dylan's Candy Bar (yes, candy can be dinner!) where Mika went, but I just found out it recently closed!
  3. Yeah, my Airbnb is about a 10 min walk to the venue & wasn’t overly pricey. I saw a couple others I considered too. Hipefully you’ll find something nice & convenient
  4. Yes, i'm addicted! I saw folks on FB posting so much about it for a couple weeks, but I was hesitant because I thought it was an app or something so I only started playing like a week ago. I love the simplicity of it
  5. Well dang, this news totally messes up my google document At least he didn't wait to spring this news on us until March!
  6. There's not a lot of accommodations around the venue at any price, certainly not low-cost options (...or maybe they all got snapped up already?) I considered a couple Boston hostels but decided to get a room in NYC instead and just hang out in the Boston train station until my train leaves at about 6am. Sleep schmeep, i'll just get coffees! Look at me, talking like I'm definitely definitely going to Boston
  7. Shhhh I was trying be optimistic when I said 2023 I guess it’s better Mika puts out albums slow & good instead of fast & bad!
  8. Sounds okay to me. Maybe bring a sleeping mask and some earplugs if you want to sleep on the flight? I found this website super helpful for info about hanging out all night in airports https://www.sleepinginairports.net/guides/new-york-city-jfk-airport-guide.htm In the USA they changed the rule about nail cutters/scissors with blades longer than a certain # of inches, but I guess for international travelers they might still be forbidden? I dunno, I’d check https://www.tsa.gov/travel to be sure
  9. Yeah, but which year? i'm betting it's 2023
  10. Last time in NYC my sister came to meet me in line (I was maybe like 4th in line) and “cut” in front of people behind us, but before she arrived I explained to the couple right behind me (they arrived maybe like 30 mins after me?) that she was coming later and that she just wanted to stand with me while we waited since we hadn’t seen each other in months and she didn’t care about being near the front during the gig so they said they didn’t mind. Other times I’ve been one of the ones that late arriving friends have cut in front of. When you’ve been waiting for 8 hours and someone arrives an hour or two before doors open and gets a better spot than you its tough to swallow. I’m not one to say anything to anyone but others might not be so accommodating. I’ve found the folks near the front of the queue to generally be pretty chill and we hold each other’s place in line for bathroom/food breaks, etc. I have no idea how it is further back. So I’d say you can try it, be super apologetic to those behind you and explain your situation, but understand if you get some pushback or dirty looks. Hopefully some others in the thread can chime in with their experiences.
  11. None, so i left for about 20-30 minutes and when I came back there was one in Montreal, and in NYC someone else came like 20 minutes after I returned. Both were MFCers of course Even though others joined me early the line didn't start building up that much until after noon I'd say.
  12. I don't know, I haven't actually bought a ticket for the Boston show yet. The earliest I've arrived to queue is like 7:45AM But that was more because I wasn't staying in a hotel room or have any other place to go, and not because I really wanted to start so early or think it needed... both of those times someone else showed up shortly after tho, so maybe it was needed
  13. Wait, this venue is all general admission, isn't it? To me that means "first in line, first inside" regardless of if your ticket was presale or not. Or did I miss something?
  14. I’m into this. I’ve always wanted to do a fan action but at my 14(?!) Mika gigs we’ve never even held up pieces of paper, let alone lit up ones! i tried to find a list of regulations about what people can bring into the venue, etc on the Roadrunner website but found nothing of the sort. However, the NYC venue has a huuuuuuge list of rules, so if we do a fan action I’d agree Boston is the place to do it.
  15. I booked an airbnb in Brooklyn from the 4th to the 5th, so i guess I'm in! Whether I'll be coming from Boston or Philadelphia & what time on the 4th remains to be seen. If we really wanna take a boat ride & don't have enough for a private tour the Staten Island Ferry is free & runs 24/7... Today the Staten Island Ferry provides 22 million people a year (70,000 passengers a day not including weekend days) with ferry service between St. George on Staten Island and Whitehall Street in lower Manhattan. The Staten Island Ferry is run by the City of New York for one pragmatic reason: To transport Staten Islanders to and from Manhattan. Yet, the 5-mile, 25-minute ride also provides a majestic view of New York Harbor and a no-hassle, even romantic, boat ride, for free! One guide book calls it "One of the world's greatest (and shortest) water voyages." From the deck of the ferry you will have a perfect view of The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. You'll see the skyscrapers and bridges of Lower Manhattan receding as you pull away and coming into focus again as you return. https://www.siferry.com/schedules.html
  16. Yeah, i never saw what was so bad about this shirt. He's worn many things that were much, much more... um... not my taste
  17. that was not the birdie shirt. hang on, lemme look for it...
  18. Mika has long shown an affinity for the Camelidae family...
  19. I want to do Boston, especially because I don't really think he'll add another NYC gig either, but finances for accommodations are tight. If don't do Boston I'd be coming from Philadelphia, and going back there. For Boston I was thinking it'd go like: fly to Philly a couple days before (leave suitcase there and jam all my gig stuff in small backpack or purse), saturday latest bus or train to Boston (about a 6-8 hour ride, arrives about 11:30pm), hang out in station and/or wander around Boston all night, or MAAAAAYBE get a cheap hostel room???, early morning queue... or take the train sunday and arrive about 2:15pm and not queue for hours?!), Boston gig, after gig go to bus station, bus back to Philly leaves around 2am, shower and sleep in Philly, early morning train to NYC, queue & NYC gig (FYI venue's max bag size is 18”x14”x9”), wander around NYC after gig & return Penn Station, early morning train back to Philly, fly home the next day. ^this plan brought to you by caffeine fueled Mikaddiction & an undesired cut in work hours^ For no Boston i'd just cut that part and go from Philly via train early Tuesday morning and arrive in NYC mid-day. Flawless plans, right? I'll consider options to change this up so I can come to the NYC get together on the 4th and get back to you with that plan...
  20. I’d be so down for some kind of MFC get together, but I’m not sure the day before will work. I figured I’d get the train to NYC the morning of the show, hang out in the train station all night, then go back in the morning. …….unless he adds another NYC show on the 4th or 6th
  21. Cool that he's that well known around the world! Yes, you’re right. Turns out I don’t know today’s date
  22. Cool, why was she on? And I thought the little girl's name was Holly? EDIT: Nevermind i googled her, Holly is her first name and Mae is her middle name and she's a singer-songwriter now.
  23. Tomorrow (Monday, Jan 15 2022) is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday in the US. He's a hero here. Is he very well known in other countries? I'm kinda surprised to find a few places outside of the USA that do honor him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King_Jr._Day
