of course you can sing it like you want :) it's not that strict in pop music. if you just want to imitate mika you can sing it the octave lower (it's better for non-singers or dark voices). when you want to sing it how mika composed it you should sing it in the original tone pitch, - and it sounds 1 octave higher, but only a soprano can do that. anyway i don't think mika was thinking about anyone else to sing it, he just composed it for himself. if he wanted a woman or a man with a low voice to sing it, he would have composed it different.

wow you're really professional!! ^^ (I'm still learning:blink: but monday I'm going to see Cecilia Bartoli haaaaah:punk: )

but I'm really want to hear you for real! Are you from europe? or do you have an aria or something on youtube?

Well, been listening to the rest of you, and decided I'd do some too. Spent yesterday having huge fun recording. I've done seven songs.....

I'm not a professional singer as you'll be able to tell the minute you hear me start singing. I'm an alto, so will never be doing Love Today or Relax cos they are just too high.

Also, please excuse wrong notes, words, and my toddler daughter who had a few impromptu appearances in some of the songs in the way of squeals, thumps and calling out. I crack up laughing at the end of one of them cos she got herself stuck trying to get down from the chair. I also missed the beginning of a couple of songs thanks to her, but they will just sound more real and human I guess. I couldn't be bothered redoing them. I don't like using my head voice (lazy I know), so those songs with a lot of that I'm not as keen on my performance.

I've never used mediafire before so I hope these work ok. I can take criticism too if you want to pull me apart. Have to go out shortly so will catch up with what people say later.

*resounding silence* They're that bad huh? O.K. Well at least you can have fun laughing at my expense.

sorry i didn't answer earlier... i just listened to your versions of billy brown and stuck in the middle, they fit good to your voice. i like your voice, it sounds very good, but you need more practise :thumb_yello: keep it on, your voice is really beautiful!!

Thankyou! *phew someone liked it* I think I need lessons maybe to be able to practice. Cos otherwise I wouldn't know what to do! The most singing I do at the moment is singing along to the radio, singing nursery rhymes (and Mika) to my daughter and singing in the congregation at church on Sundays. :biggrin2:

yes, it would be great to take some singing lessons. singing along the radio is a good practise to hit the tones. singing for your daughter and on church is also a nice practise to keep the voice trained. why don't you join the church's choir for example? you'll meet singers there, and maybe they can also give you tips.

i think with some practise you could train your voice to sing high tones, your voice sounds bright and as if it has also the volume for the high soprano tones.

Unfortunately the choir rehearse at the same time as I teach timbrel classes. I used to be a soprano as a child, then in band i sat next to a lady who sang alto and gee harmonies were so much more interesting than the melody! I think I made the decision to be an alto as much as my voice deepened a bit as I got older. *thinking about investigating cost of singing lessons*

hey, just keep going until you're happy with it. You don't have to stop. I'd be so interested to hear people's versions of Over My Shoulder, esp our resident opera singers. I had a go at it, but I can't do it properly and I kept stuffing up the words cos I don't know it very well yet.

I have the words as they are in the sheet music book. Herein lay my trouble, I was trying to not be obviously turning pages whilst recording and therefore messed up. I'm not 100% convinced that the words in this book are correct but I'll type them out for you. Give me a couple of minutes.

Over my shoulder, running away,

feels like I'm falling, losing my day.

Cold and dry, cold and dry.

Fog out my daylight, torture my night;

feels like I'm falling far out of sight.

Cold, drunk, tired, lost.

The words are then repeated in the second half of the song except that in verse 1 the book says losing my way instead of day, and in the second verse instead of cold, drunk, tired, lost, it says cold, drunk, cold and drunk.

Hope this helps.

Sleep well. x
