AnnaMariaPetra
This is actually still worn by (some) people in the dutch town Staphorst: Even some younger women wear it on a daily basis, but it are mostly older ladies. I see them sometimes shopping on the market in a city near us.
nico_collard
Are the corks there to keep the flies away? Ype... the exact reason... Farmers wear them apparently. Where the hell do you come from??? (oh that's right... city girl... ) I've never seen a farmer wear one... ever... and I see quite a few farmers... or make sure your beer doesn't spill! :naughty: Or to make sure a fly doesn't land in your beer, causing you to have to throw it away... So that's why Freddie wanted the hat...

Apparently people in the outback wear them as well Well you're more city than me... And that is a good point... Well "apparently" I come from the outback, and I don't see any people wearing them... most people wouldn't wear then because they'd look like tools... Freddie and Beer??? how bout this???? :naughty: Don't show him that... he'll want one... To me that seems like a very American thing to wear... esp to baseball or football... according to the movies of course...

AnnaMariaPetra
You all have quite a lot of cliché's about your own country, but what I also ment was: Do you have any cliché-thought about foreign countries? Like (and I am defenitly NOT saying they'r true!!) the french are arrogant, the belgiums aren't very bright, the italians are womanizers, the english are stiff, the chinese all look-a-like, etc etc. (Oops: I realized those things are all negative, sorry:blink: )

Christine
Well us Brits eat fish and chips out of old newspapers for every meal and only drink tea. Yeah but that's true innit? WTF is that for? You all have quite a lot of cliché's about your own country, but what I also ment was: Do you have any cliché-thought about foreign countries? Like (and I am defenitly NOT saying they'r true!!) the french are arrogant, the belgiums aren't very bright, the italians are womanizers, the english are stiff, the chinese all look-a-like, etc etc. (Oops: I realized those things are all negative, sorry:blink: ) I think you mean stereotypes then. Some positive ones - French are great lovers and cooks, Belgians (I don't know any stereotypes...?), Italians are stylish, English have a great sense of humour, Chinese are smart and the Dutch are all tall and gorgeous. Here are some Canadian stereotypes from a Weird Al song, Canadian Idiot.

Dr. Evil: [comes over to Goldmember] How 'bout no, you crazy Dutch bastard? And more quotes from the internet: Goldmember (Mike Meyers): "Hey everybody, I ma from Holland. Isn't that wierd?" Goldmember: "Dutch hater." Goldmember: "Austin powers father." Dr. Evil: "His what?" Number Two (Robert Wagner): "His fasha, Dr. Evil." Dr. Evil: "His farger? What's a farger?" Goldmember: "His father. Yeah, the father." Dr. Evil: "Yeah, Goldmember, I don't speak freaky deaky dutch. Okay, perve boy." Goldmember: "Father is dad. Dad is father." Dr. Evil: "Oh, his dad. Oh, his father." Goldmember: "Yes, I have a dutch accent. Isn't that weird?"
