:roftl: i dont no if your a good singer/musician but you sure r a great storyteller... just one thing, do you mean they laughed at the lyrics of STIM?? there is nothing funny about those lyrics... i dont understand:shocked:

I think people who are not used to it find the "ah ah ah" bit in the chorus funny, cause it sounds a bit suggestive to them:boxed:

That was very rude of them... People aren't used to music like that and people performing what they want, so they make fun of them... I think it was fantastic what you did, you stood up in front of the whole school, and I admire that a lot... Maybe it was a bad experience, but I think it was worth at the end, you made people realize of them selves...:wink2:

Heya!

Last Thursday, it was the school's annual concert and I was supposed to be playing Stuck in the middle on my keyboard and singing it as well. I was sooooo excited about being on stage, sitting at my keyboard, facing the audience and playing one of Mika's songs because its what he does 99% of his time now, so it was nice to be in his shoes for a while.

The main reason I wanted to do it is because I'm planning to be a musician myself and so, I had to see what it felt like to play live.

Anyways...it was all excitement for me until Wednesday arrived, which was the dress rehearsals day. I arrived at school, carrying my huge and heavy keyboard, my knees about to give away. Fast forward to the beginning of the rehearsals. I sat amongst the rest of the students, while watching each performance, one by one. I realised that the rehearsals were nearly over, and I still wasn't called to play my bit. So I walked over to the presenters, and they said my name wasn't there on my list to begin with. They said the school didn't think I was actually serious and was actually gonna get my keyboard and perform.:boxed: (Even though I already got my keyboard and performed 2 weeks earlier, just to get the school's approval, which I did).

So I was furious, and walked over to one of the teachers in charge. I asked her why I was cancelled off, and she said because they have to put a table, a chair and a microphone stand for me, which is a waste of time and I was considered totally not worth it. So I ran off to the Deputy headmistress and complained to her, told her that I didnt come halfway accross the city and carry my extremely heavy keyboard for nothing. So she told me to go up and perform, very reluctantly might I add.

So I went up and performed...and all hell broke loose.

First of all, I wanna assure you all that if I didnt have a good voice and talent, I wouldnt get up and embarrass myself. So I started to play, and from the very first key I hit, everyone started laughing. I ignored all the laughter and finished the song, with no mistakes whatsoever. The laughter carried on throughout the whole song, and after I finished it as well. They were laughing at the lyrics, they told me.

I said :"I'd like to see you come up here and play the keyboard and sing as well, if you think you can do it better. Heck, I'd like to pick out any other self-taught pianist like myself."

Everyone kept quiet. I guess I was the only self-taught pianist, let alone a pianist who read music and had lessons.

I didnt turn up for the concert, as I figured out that the school was clearly not worth it.

How terrible, eh?

:annoyed_h4h:

I think you might change the thread's title in "utter IDIOTS"

SITM is amazing...they've rotten jelly brains:sneaky2:

kudos for you btw

What's amazing is how all of you guys are soooooo supportive!!!!! If only all of you were the audience instead of the morons....

It really was a bad experience...I had to go on...I couldn't just stop...that would give them more of a reason to laught at me.

People are just dumb. Obviously they have nothing going in their life and want to bring you down for shining.

I've gotten picked on for liking Mika. I don't see what the deal is or why you'd even get picked on for liking an artist. I can see playful picking from friends but not harsh picking. Fmbm texted me one day when I was in guitar class. I had forgotten to silence my cell phone because I hardly get any calls or texts so it didn't cross my mind. It went off and was loud and I had Grace Kelly on there where he was singing,

"I could be brown

I could be blue

I could be violet sky

I could be hurtful

I could be purple

I could be anything you like

Gotta be green

Gotta be mean

Gotta be everything more"

After I got it out and silenced it I could hear the boys behind me laughing the rest of class and saying crap and messing around saying things like, "what about orange?" They had the desks arranged differently that day because normally we all sit facing each other and I knew they were able to laugh about it because they weren't saying the crap to my face. It's easier to say crap behind someone's back. I pretty much lost all respect for them. Sadly this is college age students so some people never do grow up.

I don't blame you for not showing up at the concert. I wouldn't have. I also don't know why they have to harass you about video taping you. That's low. I really don't get how the lyrics of SITM are funny. :boxed: Hopefully those girls know about karma and what come around goes around.

What I wanna really do is go around the whole school and ask each person who laughed at me, one by one, what is it that was funny about the lyrics. The lyrics are pure brilliance in my opinion. I guess its only a few special people (aka the MFC) that truly understand the brilliance of Mika and his music.

It wouldn't be worth it sadly. They'll find some way to rag on you for asking about who laughed at you unless if you had a friend in the audience that could tell you who it was. I don't find the song funny one bit. I think the lyrics are great. What I've found is that people either get him or don't. I think I remember him being compared to Marmite... you either love him or hate him.

It just makes it a little more special when you meet someone that likes him. My new suitemate/new friend loves him. At first I thought she was joking until Erase was playing on my ipod in the car and she started singing along. :naughty:

I was in such disbelief...

and then as I was on my way to the bus to go home, some girls told me: "ooooh..we're gonna put you on youtube so the whole world can see what a fool you are" (they recorded me playing)

and someone else said: "oh booohoooo..did you cry after everyone laughed at you?"

Jeers from every corner..

Oh my god....

You are the same one who had the trouble with the old music teacher before? About the same thing?

School "didn't think you were serious" or "worth the effort" that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard! OMG! How are they allowed to be like that?

While I was reading I was thinking "Jeez, i wish someone had taped this, I would love to see you playing/singing SiTM" (before I got to all the other parts) ... but jeez, what's up with the girl, does she not know what she is saying/doing? Please PLEASE put it online! A thousand Mika fans and generally sane people would love to see your rendition! Please, ask this girl to put it on Youtube. We will all comment. I do really want to see it. (and we will comment like we haven't heard the story first from you, don't worry).

HOW ARE THE LYRICS TO SITM FUNNY??? WHAT!?!

I am so proud and jealous of how strong and brave and fantastic you are. Well done!

remember as Mika said he got beer cans thrown at him when he did his first gigs. and look where he is now!

Yep, this is a story you're going to be telling one day when you're big and famous, I only wish you could see the looks on their faces then.

I was listening to SITM at school and some of my friends in the year above me were laughing at the lyrics too.

I kinda had a different version of that happen to me. Let me tell you:

At the end of our last year at primary school we all put on a concert. I was really excited about the whole thing. I was also playing the keyboard and singing too. I was lucky because I had a full sized keyboard and one that was a little smaller, I took the smaller one but it was still huge and had to drag it into the school for 4 weeks to keep up with the rehearsals. I noticed that nearly all the time they missed me off the list for no reason. I was really upset about this and being the typical shy person I am didn't say anything. We had the last rehearsal and I got to finally play in a rehearsal. And then my teacher who hated me came marching up to me. " Oh... your keyboards to much of a hassle to bring onto the stage, We'll put you at the back on the stairs okay? " And then ran off before I could say anything.

What the! How can schools be like this?

i think people only find it funny because mikas songs are like nursery rhymes and not rap or hip hop or doesnt have to do with taking drugs' date=' prostitutes, prison...[/quote']

Yep, there it is.

People are just dumb. Obviously they have nothing going in their life and want to bring you down for shining.

*pruned quote because she has been quoting way too much*

Seriously, I thought this kind of behaviour was left behind in highschool ... I must've thought wrong...

Exactly, well too bad for them, good for us.

Now I know I have all your backs if I ever get beer cans thrown at me!!!!

Yeah I don't see how the lyrics are funny... at all. Some songs yes, that song no.

Oh gosh if that behavior was left in high school life would be so much better!

It was pretty funny when she started to sing along because I really didn't believe her at first. Once I realized that she was singing along I said, "wait, you really do know Mika!"

Aww! :tears::wub2:

Yep, literally, we will just get up on stage and create a barrier facing you (both so our backs can block the beer cans, and so we get a good close up view of your performance) :thumb_yello:

Where in Australia!? (.. almost definately not my side)

But I will follow you round the country on your national tour :wink2:

P.S. Say hello in the Aussie thread - your practically an aussie to be, which is a lot more than half of the people in there ... *glares at Jen*

I can't express enough how ... (yeah, see there isn't a word/I have turned illiterate) ... 'jealous' I am of how you have the strength to fight so that you could get up there, and then to play the whole way through, and then give them a piece of your mind. I would definately have run off at the first sight of trouble (let alone could never play/sing a Mika song)

I'm also so gobsmacked at your story, just because I was literally just the other day marvelling at how nobody is childish and derogatory to each other anymore. Maybe just the people I have met

I love that so much :naughty:

I know! Just the thought of laughing at someone's performance, no matter for what reason, is just discusting. And then bitching around on the bus later still :boxed: How can people like that possibly feel happy with themselves?

Why are you glaring at me! I'm an honorary Aussie so there.

I seem to keep on running into more and more of those people every time I turn around. Trade spots? :bleh:

Yeah it was pretty funny. I figured maybe she only knew GK or LT but to have her sing Erase proved it haha.

I'll be in Gold Coast, that's where my university is (Bond University), but it doesn't matter where I am or where you are, like you said, I'll be touring, and I will make sure I make a stop at your area, even if you couldnt follow me around.:bleh:
