Creating a Mix CD

I'm counting on the fact that lots of you might be bored and lazy on the day after Christmas like I am. So I thought I'd throw something mentally stimulating out there.

I just found out that my best friend from college just got engaged after eight years. We always used to celebrate stuff by making each other mix tapes of our favorite songs. It's been years since I have made one for her, so I thought I'd make her one. I think her tastes have changed a lot. She even listens to, gasp, country. I'm thinking five Mika songs and I want all albums covered, with different styles represented. The only for sure song is WAG, the only ones I'm leaving out are Happy Ending, AOW and ISY I love them, but they are too sad. I'll fill the rest of the cd with some other singers. Who knows.....maybe I can recruit a new fan.

So I want your opinions. What songs would you choose? I have some good candidates, but I thought it would be fun to get your opinions. Then when I decide.I'll let you see the final song list. Thanks!

Ah, cool idea!

In addition to WAG i reckon....

-Celebrate because if an engagement isn't a reason to celebrate than i dunno what is :teehee:

-Relax in case she's stressed

-Lollipop because it's certainly a different style

-Stardust just because

Argh! This is really hard, but you guys had some great suggestions. I wasn't thinking Step with Me at first, but now I realize it's a prefect choice. I think I have a short list now:

We are Golden

Love Today-Just fun

Lollipop-For its uniqueness

Blue Eyes-Because it's so pretty and sweet

Stardust-Great love song

Elle Me Dit-The unique factor

Step with Me-Gooshy love song

Celebrate-Appropriate for an engagement

Origin of Love-For its sheer epic emotion

Now just have to whittle this list down to five, ok, maybe six. Anyone have any other ideas, or opinions on what I've chosen? And yes, I take my mixes very seriously.

Which is going to be harder? Deciding on these songs or finding the other songs to put on the cd when most other music sounds stupid and lame to me lately?

I'd definitely go for

Origin of Love

Stardust

Love Today

Touches You

and probably Celebrate for the fifth.

I like Relax, but it is about dying :naughty:, and Blue Eyes is about lost love. Lollipop - with a chorus of "Love's gonna get you down"?

OK, I think I've made up my mind:

Celebrate

Step with Me

Elle Me Dit-Cause the French is going to make her think wtf? I like the unexpected.

Blue Eyes-I know it's actually a sad song, but it's so darn pretty

We Are Golden

Love Today

I've also come up with the brilliant idea of making another cd for the actual wedding. That wayi can put on the songs I had to leave off. Now to come up with some other songs to full up the cd.

Thanks for some great ideas and suggestions. I'll let you know how she likes it.

Famous Person Polka-They Might Be Giants. Goofy fun

Take a Giant Step-The Monkees. Don't laugh! Monkees are cool!

Love Today

Last Chance on the Stairway-Duran Duran My Mika of the 80s!

Raise Your Glass-The Warblers I like Glee's version better!

Bang -Blur Had to have a little Blur even though we're just friends now

Step with Me

Many Happy Returns-Inspiral Carpets

Jai Ho-A.R. Rahman Slumdog Millionaire is one of my favorite movies

Oxford Comma-Vampire Weekend. Song about grammar. Cool

Blue Eyes-

I Confess-The English Beat

Happy Jack-The Who

Caravan of Love-The Housemartins. Great falsetto

Celebrate

Now I just need to make the cover. I'm going old style and writing it out by hand. 9yo and I are painting with water colors. He said I should make it look like a Mika cover. Love that kid. I'm thinking glitter.......

I'll let you know how she likes it. The family is accusing me of just trying to recruit a new Mika fan. Am I that obvious?

I don't know anything about compiling a mix CD, but I see you put They Might Be Giants on there, so I feel I need to comment with my approval. :aah: I used to be SERIOUSLY into them. :hi5:

And major love for Vampire Weekend as well :fangurl:

Success!

My friend loved the cd. She said she hasn't listened to music like that since college, and it made her feel very happy.

She said she had five favorite songs. Two of them were Blue Eyes and WAG! I think there's hope for her!

:hi5:
