Hey, don't forget that this is just an estimate released on Wednesday. His album had debuted a day before. I don't know much about the industry, but I wouldn't call this an exact science. So relax for now!

I think he is going to do just fine here in the U.S. He did'nt get too much media untill his release this week. With his appearances on Leno, Jimmy Kimmel and Good Morning America, people will catch on quickly now. I saw a quick little spot about him on the E entertainment show yesterday where they were saying he is a "one name wonder" making a big name for himself and "wooing Americans". I agree. Unfortunatly we are a little "slower" over here. Exept me of course :angel_not:. I was only counting the days down for his release for a couple months! I'm doing the best I can to spread the "Mika Joy" I'm telling everyone to check it out:thumb_yello:

It seems that Mika is "alternative" music in the US but in Europe it is more pop, not so weird stuff at all :original:

Does anyone know if the official sales charts (in the US) include donwloaded tracks in iTunes etc? It might be that people are listening and buying Mika's music but it can't been seen anywhere because of this chart thing? And what's on the charts gets on the radio playlists. In the UK they have changed this and the official chart has both cds and downloading and that's why the result is more true to what people really listen and buy. (Mika was talking about this in MSN interview. :thumb_yello: )

I don't know about everywhere else, but you've also got to consider of all the illegal downloads of Mika's songs. Most of the people I know just download (illegally) the songs they like and don't bother buying albums which I think is why album sales are down as a whole in the US. I don't even remember the last CD I bought besides Mika's. I only buy CDs if I know I'll actually listen to all of the songs.

I also think that Mika is so different from what we're used to that some Americans will be hesitant to accept him. I know that some of my friends would refuse to listen to him just because they thought he was gay but then once they finally listened to him, they all loved him. I just think maybe the US isn't open-minded enough...if that makes sense.

Give it time, I'll be very surprised if Mika doesn't catch on eventually. I think Americans just need to warm up to him.

I hope that's the case. It could be that Grace Kelly isn't the right song for US ears to hear first thing -- I don't know. I do think that Relax and Love Today will do really well in the clubs, and my 15-year-old son, who is a fairly typical American male kid (I think!), much prefers Ring Ring. FWIW.

I'm very agitated and disappointed with the music that's being played on the radio in Texas. :( I've stopped listening to it. Also with many people not being open to music other than something that they can bump and grind on the dance floor (especially here in the south!). *sigh* </rant>

Basically what I'm saying is...European music is wonderful :D

My husband and I had a conversation along these lines tonight -- we were listening to the radio and they played Nelly Furtado (who I actually like) backed by Timbaland. Then two songs later, they played a new song by Timbaland featuring... Nelly Furtado! The songs sounded so similar... And so much on the radio sounds the same. Nickelback sounds like Daughtry and Fall Out Boy sounds like Panic! at the Disco and, well, you get the idea... It's not that I dislike any of these (except maybe Daughtry, sorry if I offend anyone). It's just that they all sound like each other -- that's why when someone like Mika comes along it's SO refreshing... but, that's not necessarily what the majority is looking for. After all, we live in a country where American Idol is considered quality entertainment, and so-called reality shows reign...

I guess we get what the masses demand... :(

Yeah Corneille is good but there are some of our artists that are huge in France and that we don't particularly like here lol !

Oh no! Americanos's having bad taste in music!

I prefer european music too.. American is the same (not all of it i know!)..

All the big popsingers sings the same songs and so on! It's boring !

Yeah, I'm from America and all the of the stuff sounds exactly the same! Not many people here are willing to try anything new and they listen to the same ol rubbish time and time again. Not all of us, but a large majority. Sigh. Wish I lived in Europe. :(

As stated by someone else, LICM is doing well on US itunes -- #4 there. So, it is not all disappointing news.

I just did some looking around -- seems Grace Kelly is 75 on Billboard's Hot 100 list, up from 85 last week... so actually that's not disappointing news at all. Like they say, slow and steady wins the race :)

I was finally able to make it into the city to get Mika's cd today. Yay!:punk::mf_lustslow: I don't really buy cds, but I thought finding Mika's would be relatively easy. But it was really hard finding it. I went to Best Buy, it was nowhere to be seen. I asked for it, they said it showed they had 12 copies but couldn't find one. I went to WalMart, couldn't find it (although they did have Kaiser Chiefs). I was going to Target, but they were closed by the time I made it. Finally, got it at HEB+, which is a grocery store that is now trying to expand and be more like Walmart. They had it! I was so relieved to finally find it. I was actively searching for it and could barely find it. I wish there was some way to make stores put it in a featured, or the new release section, let more people see it. At HEB+, I put his name card and last cd out in front of the line so maybe someone could see it and try it out and fall in love with it. Maybe it being hard to find has something to do with sales. Or maybe I was just going to the wrong places, I don't know. As I said, I don't buy much music. Anyway, I have it now and am listening to all of the songs for the first time. So happy now.

It's always been notoriously hard for British acts to break America, except if you're The Beatles of course.

It's interesting as Mika only got to No 3 on his first week in the UK charts and went to No1 the week after and held it for 5 weeks. So if he gets into the top 10 of the US charts with either the single or album, he'll have done extremely well, as usually UK artists don't get that high initially.
