Daria Golovchenko impressed judges and commuters with her playing at Waverley Station in Edinburgh. The talented pianist was forced to leave her home in Kherson in April 2022 with her then two-year-old daughter following Russia’s invasion. She has now settled in the UK and said her piano playing had made her feel strong again. On last night’s episode of The Piano, Daria, who is in her 30s, was the last contestant at Waverley Station and she performed a rendition of Libertango by Italian composer Astor Piazzolla. She was selected for the final of the Claudia Winkleman-presented series by the judges, singer-songwriter Mika and Chinese pianist Lang Lang. After being told the news, Daria said: “I couldn’t imagine I would be here when I was in Ukraine. It’s so emotional because it means what I’m playing is not an empty thing. People can hear what I want to say through the piano. “When I first came to the UK, it was very difficult. I started playing the piano again and it was like a dancer who didn’t dance for a long time. “Before the war, the piano was just an instrument to me but here it helped me to be myself. “I can speak through the piano. I feel confident, powerful and very happy.” Describing her decision to leave home, she added: “It was the most difficult decision of my life to leave my family, to leave my hometown, to leave Ukraine.” Daria, who started playing piano at the age of five, will perform at a concert in Manchester where the winner of The Piano will be chosen. Joining her will be 10-year-old Sum, who was also selected for his performance of Haydn’s Sonata in D major. He moved to Edinburgh with his family from Hong Kong two years ago.

Les deux hommes se sont d'ailleurs très bien trouvés : impossible de ne pas voir un peu de Mika en Gabriel, jeune prodige au tempérament fantasque et au style chic londonien. Ce samedi soir, Gabriel a rendu fier celui qu'il appelle son "père spirituel" en remportant sa super cross battle face à Hamid, talent de l'équipe de Zazie. Prochaine étape : la demi-finale de The Voice. De quoi mettre des étoiles plein les yeux à ce rêveur à la voix d'ange... Interview. Quel souvenir gardez-vous de cette super cross battle ? C'était extraordinaire, j'ai adoré ce moment ! J'étais honoré de tomber face à Hamid, dont j'admire le talent d'interprète. Je n'étais pourtant vraiment pas sûr de gagner la super cross battle face à lui. Beaucoup de talents le craignaient ! Vous vous êtes défendu sur S.O.S. d’un terrien en détresse de Daniel Balavoine. Pourquoi avoir choisi cette chanson ? Je l'avais déjà chantée sur les réseaux sociaux et elle me va bien parce qu'elle montre la voix de poitrine, la voix basse, et aussi la voix de tête. Ça va très haut et ça va très bas ! Avec Mika, on avait tous les deux envie que je l'interprète pour cette super cross battle. Il me comprend car on partage la même identité vocale, on a beaucoup de points communs. C'était un choix très audacieux... Oui, on a évidemment pensé à Grégory Lemarchal et à Daniel Balavoine et on s'est dit qu'il ne fallait pas se louper ! Au début de la prestation, Mika vous a dit de respirer. Vous étiez stressé ? Oui j'étais assez stressé parce que j'avais le souvenir de ma cross battle sur Chandelier de Sia qui ne s'était pas très bien passée. J'avais été qualifié avec 55% des voix mais je n'étais pas bien pendant la prestation. Ça serrait sur les notes aiguës. S.O.S. d’un terrien en détresse me correspond beaucoup plus vocalement. Êtes-vous plus à l'aise sur scène depuis le début de l'aventure ? Je suis surtout plus à l'aise avec moi-même ! Les coachings de Mika m'ont permis de me libérer du poids du théâtre, des artifices et du superflus. Je me cachais derrière tout ça. J'ai réussi à trouver quelque chose de vrai dans mon interprétation. Jenifer, super coach lors des super cross battles, vous a dit que vous aviez plus de maîtrise vocale que Mika... Il m'a énormément appris. Ses coachings sont très marrants. J'adore être avec lui, il est vraiment cool. Il y a une vraie connexion entre lui et moi. Vous êtes demi-finaliste de The Voice. Pensiez-vous aller aussi loin ? Absolument pas ! Charles Yavo de ITV Studios France m'a appelé en juin dernier. J'étais à Londres et tout allait bien dans ma vie. J'avais mon groupe de rock, ma comédie musicale, je donnais des cours de chant et de piano, je vivais avec ma partenaire. The Voice n'était pas dans mes plans ! J'ai accepté la proposition de Charles et je me retrouve en demi-finale, c'est fou ! Quelle est l'ambiance dans les coulisses de cette saison 13 ? Tout simplement incroyable ! Ce sont des souvenirs qui resteront à jamais gravés dans ma mémoire. L'équipe de Bigflo et Oli, c'était les cool, celle de Zazie, les rêveurs, celle de Vianney, les intellos, et nous, celle de Mika, les fantasques ! On faisait n'importe quoi dans les couloirs, on nous engueulait tout le temps (Rires). C'était la joie de vivre ! Lors de la demi-finale, vous allez chanter pour la toute première fois avec Mika. Qu'est-ce que ça vous fait ? C'est le summum de tout ! Je sens que ça va être un moment absolument inoubliable. Avec qui rêverais-tu de faire un featuring ?
