  1. I find it so strangely ironic that the this topic - Mika and his subtle and not-so-subtle sexual innuendos - is being discussed bascially right after that reviewer called him an "asexual children's performer." I guess one man (or gal!)'s asexual performer is another's fantasy fodder. Hrm...
  2. Time in Cartoon Motion! I love it!
  3. Ahh that's the coolest thing ever! Awesome!
  4. You forgot me, Mika's rocket scientist! Now who's going to ensure the continuum transfunctioner stays online??
  5. Might I add that if you look at Paloma's profile, there's no Mika or Mica of any sort on her friends list. Most people would theoretically friend their own siblings, no? I mean, that's not CSI-style proof, but just a thought...
  6. Guys, Droopsy's fashion spread is amazing My target date for getting the whole thing complete, and the PDF ready for download is August 1st - just over two weeks! Yay!
  7. By Robert Urban In recent interviews, rising pop star Mika has refused to disclose whether he is gay or straight — a topic about which there has been much speculation in the gay press — even while actively courting gay audiences. His stance has resulted in a flurry of both positive and negative reactions from gay fans and critics, renewing public interest in the choices male musicians make regarding publicly discussing their sexual orientation. In a world where image is everything, what are the career consequences for successful musicians who either refrain from speaking about their sexuality, or who openly label themselves from the outset? Are there really still serious drawbacks that go along with being labeled a “gay†musician? See the rest of the article here: http://www.afterelton.com/music/2007/7malemusicians
  8. Maybe I should have bumpity-bumped this thread after making my big green deadline post We can push things back a bit - let me know what you all think...!
  9. How long do you think you and the other girls would need to put something together for the fashion page? I did say July 18th was the deadline, but we can bump that back if you still want to do it.
  10. More than that particular song, I'm really trying to channel Mika's "I'm me and if you don't like it, screw you" sort of attitude and use it to my benefit, especially in terms of body image. No one wants to advocate being an unhealthy weight, but if you have five or fifty or 150 pounds to lose, hating yourself isn't going to help anything. So yes, I try to channel the Mikaness and use it towards a healthy body image.
  11. Hrm - I found it a bit hard to catch, and the background is rather yellowy so I tried switching to black and white:
  12. Ah! I love the dab of cream cheese on his lip at 2:25. Mika can top my scone for me any day
  13. Can I confess that watching this clip of Happy Ending brought real, honest-to-goodness tears to my eyes, even though it's only a minute and eight seconds long? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FZd5sEsMHSo
  14. At first thought I wouldn't have suspected Happy Ending to be the Love Leader, especially over Love Today - but then again, the whole "little bit of love, little bit of love..." bit at the end would definitely increase the love count. Gah. Now I have Happy Ending stuck in my head, and my iPod is le broken
  15. Erm - apart from Mika I listen to an inordinate amount of country music. Also Gwen Stefani, Hellogoodbye, Postal Service, Sean Paul, UB40, Bob Marley, Elton John, Fall Out Boy, Nelly, Kelly Clarkson, Akon...I'm sure there's more but that's a good sampling!
  16. ~I wonder what Mika is doing at this very moment... I do that - it's kinda fun factoring in the time change and thinking "well, it's 7pm where he is, so he's probably thinking about dinner if he's not had it already... ~I wonder how Mika gets his laundry done...y'know..with him traveling a lot and all... Was thinking about that last week - I think when he's on the road his people arrange through the hotel concierges to get it cleaned. ~I wonder if Mika slept well last night... I've wondered how Mika likes the moment when he's back in his hotel room after a gig - going from having hundreds of screaming fans and glitterballs and lollipops to just himself, the quiet, and the tacky hotel art. ~I wonder what size shoe Mika wears.. Looks like about a size 12 in North American sizing... ~and finnnnnnnally, I wonder if Mika will be freaked out when/if he sees this thread Not freaked out, as much as thinking that we all really need to get some hobbies, methinks! For me, another one is the "I wonder if Mika likes" line of thinking. On a rollercoaster - hrm, I wonder if Mika likes rollercoasters. Drinking a glass of red wine - hrm, I wonder if Mika likes red wine. That sort of thing.
  17. Hi Somerset-ers! Since many of you will be posting your reviews on here anyhow, I was wondering if any of you would be willing to flesh it out a bit and write a 300-400 word review of the Somerset performance for the MFC eMagazine? It'd be nice to get a fresh review in our first issue. Bonus points if the venue allows cameras and you happen to get some pics. PM me if you're interested! PS: Marianne84 - I'm certainly no London expert (never been to the continent, ) but Wikipedia has this to say: The former Tower Records flagship store, now acquired by Virgin Megastore, can be found at Number 1 Piccadilly, on the west side between Regent Street and Piccadilly, directly facing Piccadilly Circus. There is a direct exit to the Underground station on the basement level. Rival store HMV also has a branch inside the London Trocadero.
  18. Thought: This icon reminds me that I haven't seen the new Transformers movie yet: Thought number 2: Walking around the Calgary Stampede (think state fair on steriods) in 4 inch heels is NOT a good idea.
  19. I can now go an eight hour work day without listening to Mika's music. This is progress! I still can't go more than a couple days, though - the cravings start to get intense. I think for a lot of people, the Mika-obsession is a lot like the first part of a relationship. You meet someone and it's this crazy amazing magical fabulous thing that takes precedence over everything else in life. Then, slowly, you come back down to earth. You still have warm fuzzies - but not that out-of-bounds-over-the-moon craziness. Suzy - being married for as long as you have, I suspect you'll totally understand that feeling. I know that the semester of college that I met my now-fiance, I got the lowest GPA of my entire college run. And for me anyhow, discovering the "Mika Magic" was that same brand of feeling all over again. It really is a form of magic. I think that because I've not seen him live (yet!), I'm still in a sort of magic holding pattern. I must say, though, that as soon as I think I'm starting to come back down to earth, I'll watch a new Mika interview and suddenly I'm all bubbly and grinning from ear-to-ear again. And I've also noticed (don't laugh!) that some Hanson interviews still have that effect on me, and it's been ten years since that obsession was born. So I don't think that after the pinnacle comes a huge downward fall - more like a resting on a gentle plateau that ensures that husbands aren't without food, school courses aren't neglected and kids aren't deviod of clean clothing forever. Work/life balance is so passé; Mika/life balance is the new in-thing!
  20. Hrm, 6 billion copies? Not a bad target! 2.4 million is a good start - yay for Mika!
  21. "Cancel" implies formally announcing dates and then backing out at the last second. Instead, can we wish for Mika to just take a breather and not announce any September dates, period? Or better yet, to take a breather and put a note on his MySpace letting everyone know that he's taking the month off, so we can let out the collective breath we've all been holding since early June.
  22. Deadline Announcement: To anyone who is submitting something for the first issue: please try to have it ready by July 18th. I'm going on a holiday without internet access (gasp!) on August 3rd, so I'm hoping to have the first issue ready to go before I leave. Let me know if that's too tight a deadline for anyone. Send your stuff to mfcmag@hotmail.com. Anyone who has something they want to submit that we haven't talked about yet, PM me and we'll try to fit it in Your Photos If anyone has any pictures of Mika that you took at gigs/signings/etc, we'd love to try to include them. Send photos to the email address above - I promise I'll give you credit. Other than that - keep on rockin' in the free world! Kind of like this guy:
  23. Intangible: His ambition and perseverance Tangible: The brown hoodie he wore in the Love Today video
