  1. Hrm, that's not a bad idea...gives me about a week after I get back. Yes, the new Target Date is Mika's birthday, August 18th. Hope that works for everyone!
  2. I suppose I owe y'all an update. My darling fiance decided that it would be a good idea to upgrade windows, and thus wiped all my design software He's promised to track down the discs and reinstall everything, but hasn't gotten around to it yet. I'm going to start cracking the whip and see if I can still make progress on it, but it might have to wait until I get back from my holiday on August 10th. My apologies, everyone! The magazine will still be completed, just a bit later than planned. Sigh.
  3. That has to be the strangest fall ever. One moment he's up, then he's down - no typical omg-I'm-falling arm flailing that a person would do - just ker-thunk! And the way he sort of turns - it's the strangest thing. Looks like he didn't even have TIME to try and prevent himself from toppling over. What was it he said in some random interview? "I don't do drugs or else I'd fall off the stage"? If this is sober Mika, I'd hate to see the effects of a controlled substance In all seriousness, I'm glad that no one was really hurt, and that everyone kept rockin on
  4. Ahhh another Calgary fan! *Squeals with delight* Welcome! *hands you a cup of tea* Yes, Calgary is a bit Mika-barren. I heard "Love Today" on Vibe 98.5 once, back in May. I heard "Relax" at Suzy Shier at TD Square. And just yesterday I heard "My Interpretation" at the Bluenotes at Chinook Centre. Oh, and my colleagues heard Grace Kelly on the radio while I was on my lunch break last week, and actually called me to let me know. I'm not sure what station it was, maybe Fuel 90.3? Anyhow - I feel your lack-of-Mika pain.
  5. YES YES YES! That's exactly, to a tee, how I feel. I'm only 22 but it seems like life pre-Mika was an endless cycle of get up, go to work, come home, eat dinner. Do laundry, pay bills, worry about interest rates. Lather, rinse, repeat. Then this amazing technicolour marvel appeared in my life just when the monotony was starting to get pretty grinding. Mika is bright, he's smart, he's refreshing, he's vibrant. He's 23, which puts him smack-dab in the middle of the so-called "boomerang generation" - us generation of twenty-somethings who apparently fail to leave the parental nest and have nothing better to do than play World of Warcraft in our underwear in Mom's basement. Clearly, that's not Mika. And that's inspiring. Mika is a breath of fresh air. Life In Cartoon Motion is probably the best album I've heard in over ten years. Then you see the interviews and you just want to harness his attitude, bottle it, and serve it at a local cafe. Please see Exhibit A - *points to quote in signature*. The Mikaness is something that we can - and do - all seem to translate into whatever it is we need in life. He really is "anything we like". He's inspiring 15 year old girls Australia to not let themselves be tormented by bullies. He's inspiring 32 year-old women in the UK not to hate their bodies, and thereby themselves, simply because they carry a few more pounds than Kate Moss. And he's reminding 17 year old girls in the US (who already feel like there are no good fish left in the sea) that yes, some guys aren't total donkeys. And those aspects don't even touch on the music. That voice - those lyrics - the inflection, the emotion, the tonal quality. The specialness, the uniqueness, the raw talent that man posesses...it is quite simply, to use one of his oft-used words, brilliant. </waxing poetic>
  6. I had a moment like that yesterday! I was in Bluenotes (a little Canadian clothing chain, I think it's owned by American Eagle Outfitters), trying desperately to find this T-Shirt that I'd seen in another location the previous week. Anyhow, I'm looking all over for it, and what comes on? My Interpretation! It took me a second because I'm always *hearing* Mika's songs when they're not actually on at all. I realized that it was really on about the same time as my fiance did, and the first thing he said was "uh-oh, you're not going to start dancing in the store are you...oh". Of course I did - duh. But, lo and behold, that's when I found the T-shirt I'd been looking for, hidden away on a back rack! Mika's music brings joy to the people AND good fashion luck. But anyway. About those guys you ran into - jerks. If someone came up to me and mentioned Mika, I would squeak and then recruit them to the Fan Club.
  7. You mean it's like a contest of some sort? How about - a few years prior to the Somerset House gig, Mika worked there as a waiter?
  8. Gals, I thought we figured out a long time ago that Mika's an alien. Or was it a vampire? Either way, that means he's probably about 438 years old, give or take a few months. And they just "say" he's 23 becuase that seems like a good age
  9. Oh no! All the MFC members in the same place? All at once? SAY IT ISN'T SO!!!
  10. But he didn't make it obvious that he messed up, which is total class. He just kinda kept going, and only us rabid MFCers noticed, and analyzed. I think the "purpose" of this appearance was to drum up more US popularity - and I think (hope!) he succeeded. People who had never heard of him, or only vaguely knew of him, would never have realized his "oops".
  11. Is anyone else in love with Mika's signature move? Y'know, mic in right hand, left arm outstretched, bent slightly forward. I dub it "The Mika", and whenever he does it, there should be an understanding that he is, in fact, "doing the Mika". Although, it kind of makes me want to tackle him rugby-style... PS: Thank you to those who I ruthlessly stole these pictures from (from the Mika live photo album).
  12. Luke's done guitar before! In this interview, from earlier this year, Mika introduces Luke as being on keyboards and guitar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncn95TKFgA4
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_UPZWFHpR8 Here you go!
  14. Nope, I was referring to A) When he messed up that one interview where he confused which country he was in - Holland vs. Norway or something? And B) The concert from Italy where he goofs Billy Brown, lol. He's cute even when he makes an oops.
  15. I don't think he was lip-synching, but I'm quite sure he was singing to a backing track. The background vocals are identical to the CD version. I wonder if the changed lyrics was a mess-up, or if he did it on purpose? Usually when he messes up his lyrics or says something goofy, there's a "flicker" across his face when he realizes his gaffe. There was no flicker this time - at least not one discernable on the YouTube version. Either way, that was awesome. And I <heart> his pants.
  16. West coasters unite! Let's all join hands and sit in a semi circle, and provide each other support while we wait the hours until we can see it! Or until someone gets it onto YouTube. Hint, hint.
  17. Golf by far! Mini golf would just be funny. "Real" golf would be fun, too - Mika driving a golf cart? Priceless! Then afterward, we'd have to go back to the pool and discuss our golf game over margaritas, of course.
  18. I have to wait three more hours till it comes on here. Dang western Canadian television feeds!
  19. Won't YOU be surpised when the Mika-ssiah appears and He heals us all!
  20. First I heard that he was living in a basement suite below his parents' home. Then I heard he apparently was going to renovate his kitchen. Now he's couch-surfing after being evicted? Sorry Mr. Mika - something doesn't quite add up. Might have to polish your lying skills just a tad "The thing is, I don’t just want to meet these people; I don’t want to be like the crazy stalker, like ‘Get this ****ing kid away from me!’ I want to meet them and have them want to talk to me." Yep, that's how I too feel about Mika! A poolside chat over margaritas - that's The Dream.
  21. It happens in every family. Mine is particularly demented. We have an annual family reunion (coming up next weekend, actually) and I think the most noteworthy event was the year my Aunt left my Uncle to have an affair with his nephew. I kid you not. Yay, family politics!
  22. Bwahaha. Looking at that, I'm not sure weather to laugh or cry
  23. If you have some idea what the title of the thread is you want, you can search by title: Click on "Search" When the box comes up, click on "advanced search". In the top section of the page, it gives you the option to search titles only - this allows you to add keywords like "deserted island" or whatever, and it will only return threads with that in the title, rather than any and all threads where someone posted those words. Hope that helps!
  24. I wonder if he does have any nameless one night stands in his closet (ha, closet). Like that one interview said, his decision not to talk about his sexuality does sort of put a premium on one-night-with-Mika stories. Actually, it's almost a bit surprising that no "Mika is <insert sexuality here> - I know 'cause we slept together" stories have surfaced. I'd be quite surprised if he's a virgin, so maybe any previous notches on his bedpost are just wholesome, respectful people?
  25. My current thought: Mika singing a cover of "Unchained Melody" would just about make my life complete. And the high note would be such a cakewalk for him!
