  1. I know, everytime someone mentions "crooner-like" music, Michael Buble is said. Which makes sense of his commerical success. I think he is great but I still prefer Matt Dusk but even Matty loves some Buble...so maybe I should cut the guy more slack. Cause afterall he sang some Mika
  2. Hope you get to listen to the single soon Nico...when I first heard it I thought I had other music on so it is a different departure from what I expected but still rocking...in fact the song is really rocking literally.
  3. I was just watching a Bob Dylan doc the other day and certain tendencies reminded me of Beck himself. Not to make any direct comparisons between the two but there are definitely similarities.
  4. Just heard the new single as well and I'm liking it, lyrics and all. I know what you all mean about the cash flow this year...for me it's gonna be Mika, Prince and U2. Yeh I wonder what they will do for staging this year, it has to be mad ridiculous.
  5. Glad to see this thread...those are my two favorite songs plus "Please Please Me" I found out about him through U2 since Bono wrote the song, "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad" originally with Frank Sinatra in mind but he passed away before he was able to. So Matt Dusk ended up doing a beautiful job of that song. And the music videos are sublime, not to mention his voice. i like this picture...all smiles
  6. I dig Beck...I've seen him live a couple times...San Diego, Santa Cruz, whatnot and I can say he is awesome live. Yet I have also been to a concert where he wasn't in the best of moods but nevertheless genius playing. His music vault is pretty extensive and varied, it really sprouts into different musical paths. That's what I enjoy and it keeps me coming back for more. So much that there are some songs that are just too depressing for me to listen to. Of course having the Prince influence doesn't hurt either. Ultimate Favs: Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime & Missing Others: *New Pollution (dance) *Where It's At (more dance) *Debra (Prince-like?) *Think I'm In Love *Scarecrow (crazy sounds huh) *Cellphone's Dead (very practical) Liking Chemtrails now...very haunting
  7. let the music begin There has been speculation that Prince will perform 7 nights at the Nokia L.A. Live theater in Feburary sometime. I recommend anyone who would like to attend to head to the website (new song too-Chocolate Box) and sign up for info...can only imagine how hard it would be to get tickets soon To sign up: *go to http://www.lotusflow3r.com/ *Just click on the ticket laying by the boombox & a purple ticket should appear stating January 31 2009 asking for ur email... the giddness is pouring out of me now:roll1:, it's been a while since I've been fortunate enough to be partying at one of his concerts.
  8. Yeah I understand about youtube, he does it for owning all his rights i guess...but luckily there's imeem.com. Search for Prince on the Oprah show, it's a great find. You can pretty much find any footage of him on Imeem.
  9. Just noticed the new blogs... The comic strip one had me reminiscing to a movie I used to watch as a kid, Little Nemo. It used to scare me to death, but curiosity always willed me to keep on watching. Am I the only one who've seen this: http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi3717595417/ I realized the connection between the two, but in no way am I going to re-watch this. I have retired from scary movies, even cartoonish ones. My dreams are much nicer now...
  10. Hehehe, I have only seen a few pictures of the book...it would only make sense to have hints of purple in it. Ditto on the beautiful ones, I love to imitate the facial expressions on that one from the movie, just priceless. But even better news...a new Prince website!...http://www.lotusflow3r.com: It's coming along faster than I expected, still more than peachy tho.
  11. i almost forgot to give "New Year's Day" a listen...
  12. lol, why did I come into this thread... I used to listen to their album in the dark since it made the music more movie-ish, not to mention my bad singing used to drive my mom insane. My favorites will always be... -To The Moon And Back............truly spacey -Carry On Dancing............always reminds me of Sweet Child O' Mine -Tears Of Pearls -I Want You............has to be my ultimate favorite...cherry cola any1? -Truly Madly Deeply............perfect pop song -Break Me Shake Me............this one was fun to sing to and imagine shaking or breaking some1 ***off to find a certain orange cd
  13. Whoo hoo, more Prince fans... Definitely hard to pick favs, but I'll try anyways... *17 days *Dolphin *Holy River *Mountains *The beautiful ones *Under the Cherry Moon of course the entire 3 disc Emancipation album...best music of my childhood.
  14. From the L.A. Times, Prince is really putting out 2 albums since 1 album is Bria Valente's...Nevertheless, I'm just estatic that new Prince music is coming plus a tour LA times: prince to release 3 albums 2009 http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2008/12/visiting-with-p.html Tuesday morning, I received the Golden Ticket of journalistic invitations: a summons to Prince's mansion, high atop Mulholland Drive, to hear the new music he'll be releasing sometime after the holidays. At 8 p.m. that evening, I drove my dirty Mazda past the fountain in his courtyard, parked by the limo in the back, and entered his manse. The man himself greeted me in a candelit study, where he was laboring over a laptop with his Web designers, Anthony Malzone and Scott Addison Clay. The next five hours took me from that room to a car Prince referred to as "Miles Davis," where we listened to one set of songs; into a back room furnished with a round bed, faux-fur carpeting and a plexiglass Rhodes piano, where he played cuts by his new protege, the comely Bria Valente; and into that white limo, where the entirety of "Lotus Flower," the album previewed earlier this month on Indie 103.1, boomed through the speakers as we drove through Hollywood. Needless to say, it was an amazing experience. After the jump, a few tidbits, including Prince's promise of three albums in 2009 and his thoughts on Proposition 8. Prince will release not one, but three albums in the new year. He's in final negotiations with "a major retailer" to distribute the music in physical form, and a highly interactive website will also provide an opportunity to buy. He's not working with a record label. "The gatekeepers have to change," he said several times throughout the evening. He's found his way back to the sound of "When Doves Cry." The first disc, tentatively titled "MPLSOUND," is an electro-flavored solo effort recorded at Paisley Park Studios. Prince experimented with Pro Tools and "new ways of recording" on these trippy, experimental pop songs. One features a Q-Tip rap; another calls a "Funky Congregation" to worship and may become a live set piece. He's ready to revive the Quiet Storm. "We got sick of waiting for Sade to make a new album," he said, introducing Valente's new album, "Elixir." The tracks are chill, with Valente's buttery voice melding with beats by Morris Hayes and Prince's guitar lines. Some are explicitly sexual. "This music is nasty, but it's not dirty," Prince said, explaining how sensual music fits in with his much-discussed faith -- he's a Jehovah's Witness. "There's no profanity. It isn't promoting promiscuity. She's singing about her lover, who could be her partner for life." He loves his guitar. As the tracks played on Indie 103.1 indicated, "Lotus Flower" is rooted in the instrument. Prince said he refocused on his playing while performing live dates with the singer Tamar Davis in 2006; with the spotlight trained on someone else, he could fall back in love with solos and riffs. "Lotus Flower" is a varied album, featuring cuts recorded over the course of two years, but standout tracks include some heavy rockers -- especially the apocalyptic "Dreamer," which Prince said was partly inspired by the radical black comedian Dick Gregory. He did not vote for Proposition 8. In fact, he didn't vote at all. "I didn't vote for Obama either," he explained. "Jehovah's Witnesses haven't voted for their whole inception." The controversy over a recent New Yorker "Talk of the Town" item, which Prince feels implied he supported the gay-marriage ban, has upset him. It's the first thing he wanted to discuss when the Web geeks had gone and we were alone. "I have friends that are gay and we study the Bible together," he said. He added that two sides fighting "only benefit the third person" who instigated the fight.
  15. Oh that's more than fine, thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten that this thread was in the public zone.
  16. I think my little sister kinda looks like Mika, her name is Makayla but if it was spelled Mikayla, I could really call her Mika.
  17. Ha! My lil sister started loving Mika when she was about 6 months. I didn't have to coerce her either. If you think about it, all the music videos are quite kid-friendly. Although I personally edited the Love Today vid...don't want to influence the kid to be walking the streets at night. First chance I get, I'm taking her to a MIKA concert, will 2 be too young?
  18. Count me in 2! I don't know too much of their music but have always loved the "Sound of Silence", the words and music...just awesomeness. I can understand about never seeing or caring for how an artist looks like. Anytime I would play my mom performances or music vids from the 70's such as the Eagles's "Hotel California" she would say, "Wow I didn't know they looked like that", since she only had the albums and music performances were scarce on tv. Now in the world of tivos and youtube, media is defintely easily accessible. Sometimes I think it can lose its appreciation for the art form yet at the same time open more boundaries for artists... But yeah "Sound of Silence", this performance gets me for its intensity. I made my mom watch this and she commented "Don't tell me you have a crush on Art" I didn't realize it but there's just something very passionate about him in this video... be prepared to laugh tho...with the looks & the audience.... Sound of Silence... p.s. don't u think Mika would make a lovely cover of this
  19. jumping for joy ...new prince music after almost a year and then some and i'm liking it...his cover of Crimson & Clover, just awesome This means a new album and tour in the near future...whoo hoo if you want to listen to his 4 songs that debuted on an L.A. radio show, here's the link: Prince - Indie 103.1 Radio just scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the 12-18-08 show Play that guitar Princey! p.s. IMEEM.com has a wealth of P vids...look 4 the oprah interview
  20. I know...huh! but I always thought snow was soft & fluffy...hehehe...totally the opposite....so maybe we aren't missing too much And mexican food in California is awesome if you know where to find it...happy eating
  21. i prefer San Antonio Spurs despite being a Cali native..teeheee but what about the freezing cold we have been having...snow in some places... oh and with a MFC florida Meet Up at DisneyWorld in the works only makes it so easy to think of a Cali MFC Meet Up at Disneyland sometime in the future... I know that Santa Monica is already in the works, just Disneyland should be kept in mind for the next one...cotton candy, churros, & Space Mountain, anyone?
  22. I dressed my lil sis up but she could have went as a mini Mika/Prince/Bob Dylan with her hair...hehehe
  23. I did notice this in the video and being a lover of both brands, Yogi Tea and Traditional Medicinals, I was glad to see them in his cabinet. I prefer chai redbush by Yogi Tea, you really don't need any sugar and it has no caffeine and let's not forget the "profound" sayings on the tea bags A little tip to Mika, he should use agave nectar (yummy stuff) instead of honey but whatever floats his tea bag...
  24. Yep...this election night went super fast...just minutes after the polls closed in CA, they were already cueing to McCain's speech....so my vote didn't count?! Still glad I voted and glad it's over. I am hoping to get my Krispey Kreme Star-shaped donut now...: ) Go Obama!
  25. I voted! Well by mail that is... Hehehe that's hilarious young McCain looks like Steve Martin, but I adore Steve Martin, just classy, classically funny.
