I noticed that change too  But I understand that it's normal that his voice wears out after all these years of singing. In few songs like @Mikasister said,  he's seeking to sound like on original version but if he sang it in different way it also would be okay and without forcing his voice.

Still love his voice whether low whether high, as long as he's singing it'll be alright
