Christine
People needn't be self-conscious about the fact that they're not getting much response at first. You just have to keep plowing on. If you become a frequent poster others will eventually take notice and start interacting with you especially if you speak directly to their comments and not just offer a general opinion. I don't think anyone intends to exclude newcomers or would feel intruded upon, it's just a matter of getting your voice heard above the din because everyone is already chattering away. It takes time to find your place amongst 7000 other people.

That's what happens after years of running after our younglings! You frazzle us! BTW, I'm afraid to ask... how old is your nan? Hint: If she's younger than 48, don't tell me! *hands Deb a box of chocolates* Mmmm. And THAT'S how you win me over any day of the week! dcdeb

dcdeb
If my nan is younger than 48 then my mum was practically a foetus when she had me :roll1: Whew! That's a relief. But seriously, I have a cousin who is my age who has a son who just turned 31... a 31-year-old could *technically* have a child who is 15 or 16... so it's almost possible, if you do the math. But since these last several posts have been more about language than math, we'll declare this a NO MATH zone, and then I can pretend I'm, oh, about 28. OK, maybe that's a stretch. 38. There you go. So.. yeah, getting back on topic... dcdeb

sienna
....... i hate it when someone says what im trying to say in "short and sweet" way, and I have to go and make long posts... Oh no, please don't do that! The long and elaborated posts are a great opportunity to actually understand what people are talking about. I love them! And especially when I also get to read (and learn) a little bit of good English. So please continue with them! Yoppapop gave me the advice a long time ago to write long and try to explain everything as clear as I could and to use a lot of smilies to not be misunderstod or misinterpretated...and it worked! And about my spelling....well you know...it's a constant struggle!

CazGirl
I love that!!! What has this thread come to?! :roftl: I got it from an "old" British tv series called Gimme Gimme Gimme. Bearing in mind Linda thinks she is in her late 20's. (It starts at 5:50 but I recommend you watch it all!) Part 2 and 3 if you are interested:
