I don't live in the US, but the two states I've spent the most time in - Montana and (southern) California - are vastly different.

Montana struck me as very conservative, very right wing, very true-to-its-roots. I think "Montana", and the first thing that comes to mind is a guy who looks like this:

http://www.svguide.com/f07/f07%20images/potato2.jpg

Rural Montana is all about beef and farming. Great Falls has around seven bazillion casinos.

Southern California, however, is a different world. The beach and the palm trees and the food seem to influence every aspect of life there. Mexican influenced cuisine is everywhere. It's like the SoCal motto is "work hard, play harder" - it's this strange blend of crazy, fast-paced living combined with freewheeling beachy casual-ness. LA is a city that's full of itself. It wears star-shaped sunglasses and carries a stainless steel water bottle filled with some pomegranate martini drink-of-the-week. I absolutely love it.

I'm curious about east-west differences - particularly LA versus Miami. Maybe Mika would like to come share his experiences - after all, LICM was recorded on both coasts. :thumb_yello:

i guess out school is weird because i would say there are 80-90% are nerds (not in the stereotypical sense, just that everybody cares a lot about their grades) A good third dress no "crazier" than mika, so if i wear colored skinny jeans or a bright shirt, nobody thinks it's odd. There are the preps- a HECK of a lot of them too. I wear whatever i feel like wearing i don't really have a style, i get pretty crazy sometimes, but friends are yet to disown me because of it lol.

But with that said, we are also considered one of the most preppy schools around. we have about 1400 students as well, not huge, but for this area it's considered big.

That's pretty much how it is here too. But at my school we only have around 500 students. I think that's about average for most schools in south Georgia

David! ooh, lucky you're seeing him!

I have a really good friend who lives in Twin Falls Idaho? (not exactly sure where that is) But do you know it?

I know, I'm so excited!! :D

my friend Katey (humpfree on MFC) goes...or I guess went to school with him. :naughty: even though she didn't know him. xD

Yeah, Twin Falls is about...oh 2, maybe 3 hours away from here.

I've lived in Texas, was born there. :)

It didn't always rain... we didn't even have grass where we lived. We had to get our own :bleh: and I have pictures of our winters with little me building a snowman taller than myself. :naughty:

Oh I know! Are the people there really rude? That's what I've always heard..

That's the stereotype that I'd always heard about New York as well... however, I was very pleasantly surprised when I went there. Everyone I encountered was really polite and held doors open and whatnot. I'm not so used to that type of common courtesy despite Texas being the "friendly state." :bleh: Then again, it's impossible to generalize about any population really... there will be rude people everywhere, just as there will be many nice people too. It all depends on the individual. (but that being said, I still felt more comfortable in NY with people because they seemed nicer to me. haha...even though that's pretty much the opposite of what you'll find most people say )

After these past few days it does seem like it always rains... :naughty: But prior to 2 days ago, it'd been like a drought, so .... :roftl: Lovely South Texas weather. You ask for rain and it pours until entire neighborhoods float away.

.... I think I'll reply to this thread again tomorrow and reflect on some other observations I've made, since this is one of my favorite topics. :biggrin2:

I am not a US resident but i have been living in Arizona for nearly a year with a family. When i first arrived there i was really shocked on how big it is and that one state is actually in the size of the country i am coming from, even bigger.

I really liked the way the people present themselves to you. The fact there is a golf course in every corner in AZ is kinda weird but it's sort of a vacation place as i saw it.

One thing i really really liked is the shopping malls, they were the biggest shopping malls i have been in. :naughty:

Oh and the weather is perfect, resembles the weather in Israel very much. It hardly rained and sunny most of the time.

I hope in the future i'll have a chance to go back to visit and include New York & Florida in my trip.

From the couple of times that i've been to NYC, the people there are generally nice, but there are those stuffy stuck up businessy-type people that are EXTREMELY rude.

I accidentaly ran into a woman like that on a cross walk, and I aplogized...but she just gave me a dirty look and stalked off. xD

But, i'm biased.

I'm in love with NYC, no matter what. :wub2:

Anyone who lives in the U.S. *or has visited multiple states for that matter* must realize that each and every state is like a whole other country, with it's own 'different way of life'.

I haven't been to THAT many states and I see the difference....so it only makes me wonder - if it gets all the more apparent the further Up, East or West that you go!!!!

How does YOUR state differ from others that you have been to?

......and do have any questions for folks from specific states that you have always wondered if any of the clichés are true?

Like, I am from the deep south and I DO say 'yall' everyday of my life!~

I don't think I have a 'country accent' but some people in NYC said that I did????

New York was like a whole other world - but, I think that is JUST NYC... it is like that for everyone that goes there! New York is a world of it's own - so that is not a fair comparison for ANYONE! :naughty:

I think that in say Georgia.... the pace of life seems much slower and laid back. At least the parts that I have been to. It is beautiful and looks so much cleaner than Florida!

What have you guys observed?

well i've been to 13 states they were awsome!!!!!!!!!! it was cool:mf_rosetinted:

*Bump*

Hey Y'all! :bye: It's A Southern Thing

This thread interests me :thumb_yello:

I've been to.. 7 states:

1. South Carolina - I live here. :teehee: Everywhere, but at the same time, nowhere :lmfao:

2. Georgia - Peaches :wub2: I've been everywhere here..

3. Florida - I've been to .. Miami, St. Augustine, Daytona, Orlando.. and Pensacola Beach.

4. Alabama - I've been to Birmingham.. not for any special, just messing around :aah:

5. North Carolina - I've been pretty much everywhere here, except the coast :teehee:

6. Tennessee - Have You ever say Mountains? :naughty: I love Tennessee.

7. Virginia - Where Mika saw his first concert :fangurl:

I think.. Florida&Virginia are DEFINITELY different from other states that I've been to, Florida.. is a very happy state, maybe because of Disneyworld :dunno:

Tennesee.. I wouldn't live here, but I think it's more of a family vacation state. :naughty: The Appalachian mountains are GORGEOUS. Pigeon Forge is very old time-ish, but it's fun, some places in Tennessee do not have sweet tea, so I have learned :lmfao:

South Carolina.. I think it differs very much from other states, it's more like every city of South Carolina is a different country.. If you go to.. let's say, Greenville.. the people there remind me more of Northerners than Southerners, but if you go to where I live, Greenwood, we are very southern, then you have the people at Charleston, which remind me of Californians.. Virginia is beautiful, I love it there, it's the farthest North I've been, I was very young when I went there, but I still remember some of it. I've been to.. Richmond, Viriginia Beach.. and Norfolk (: I don't believe they had sweet tea there either..

Well, that's my origin opinion of other states! (:

What have you guys observed?

Ain't it the truth!

Being a Texan from birth, this is SO easy.

1. PRIDE. I think this is something every true Texan has. It's like a whole nother culture ... you always bring up the fact that you are from Texas in a conversation with a stranger. I don't know, I can't describe it. :teehee:

Example: You're in another country. Whenever ANYONE asks where you're from, you don't say the U.S. You say Texas. Fact.

2. ACCENT. I am from a relatively large city, so I have a marginally normal accent. Okayokayokay, I do drop a couple 'yalls' into casual conversation, but I don't have a DRAWL.

3. POLITICAL VIEWS. Here's a common misconception. Well, that's a lie--most of Texas is starch and conservative as you can get. I live in the most liberal city in Texas, and it is the best. So, if you ever come to Texas ... come to Austin. :mf_rosetinted: WE ARE NOT BUSH FANS.

4. CLIMATE. Texas ... is hot. Tis true. It's a pretty mild day in the summer if it's not in triple digits. But that means that winter is amazing. Like, it's January and about half my school was wearing shorts today.

I'll think of more. Come to Texas, yall. :glasses3:
