Ruth
Bonsoir. Je veut dire Guido Fawkes was born in York. On November 5th 1605 he was involved in a plot to blow up the English parliament. He was discovered in the cellars of the houses of Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder. Because of his failure and the use of gunpowder, we celebrate with fireworks and because he was killed, a representation of him is made and burnt on Bonfire Night. donc... Guido Fawkes est né à York. Le cinq novembre seize cent cinq il a été impliqué dans un plan 'to blow up' le parlement anglais ..... what would that verb be please??? Babelfish has helped, does it seem OK? I'm going to talk about the mardi gras in Maastricht the fête du thon in Étel and the fes noz in Belz (Bretagne) j'éspere. C'est dur pour moi! Niki27
"a plot to blowu up..." Un complot pour faire exploser le Parlement Plan sounds weird, "complot" is the right term for plot cause it includes the notion of secrecy, conspiracy.
Niki27
And yeah "representation" is awkward cause people won't see what you're talking about unless they know the story. I'd use "a pantin à son effigie" instead. "à son effigie" means "that looks like him/that represents him" a pantin is some sort of big puppet. Ruth
That was good, They were impressed with 'pantin' no one else had found that. Thanks I have to talk about St Martin's Day (11th November) next week and then ask questions. How about these? I decided to take French I my last year of high school and all my teacher does is talk about herself and her life in France. So far I've learned like nothing. Makes me so angry.
