I have to talk about St Martin's Day (11th November) next week and then ask questions. How about these?

Right... first of all, sthg like St Martin's Day would be translated by "La Saint Martin". It's "la" because we assume it's " la fête de" , but we drop it.

On fête (we celebrate) la Saint Jean, la Saint Martin, la Saint Nicolas etc.

 

Quand est le jour de St Martin?

--> Quand a lieu la Saint Martin? ("Quand est"/"Quel jour est"...we just don't use, don't ask why, it sounds awkward with the verb "être" )

or --> Quel jour fête-on la Saint Martin?

 

Quelle date le jour est-il tenu?

--> A quelle date la fête est-elle tenue?

Again, we don't translate day by "jour" in this context.

 

De quelle nouriture les gens mangent-ils?

--> Quelle nourriture les gens mangent-ils ?

 

Quelle boisson est particuliérement brassée pour Noël?

--> Quelle boisson est brassée spécialement pour Noël?

ou --> Quelle boisson est brassée tout particulièrement pour Noël?

The adverb has to stand in front of what it refers to, in this case, Noel.

 

Quels ouvriers sont engagés pour l'anée prochain?

Now that's tricky xD

l'année prochaine is only used to translate "next year" when in a given context, when you speak about a specific time that will only happen once.

Next year, I'm moving to London. L'année prochaine, je déménage à Londres.

 

"the next year", "the following year" has to be translated by "l'année suivante" or 'l'année d'après"

--> Quels ouvriers sont engagés pour l'année suivante.

 

Quelle expression est employée pour décrire l'ivresse?

--> Quel autre festival est comparé au régal de la Saint Martin?

Are you sure about régal? What do you mean exactly?

"Qui" is always a singular in a question.

Il est un jeune homme qui habite à Londres mais il est né à Beyrouth et sa famille a habité à Paris depuis neuf ans. Il est un pop star unique et formidable. Il a beaucoup des traites interéssants. Il est très grand et mince.

et il a les longs cheveux bruns qui sont bouclés. Il a un visage sensible et interéssant parçe-ce que sa mère est lebonese.

Il écrit ses chansons et il chant avec un voix superbe et trés haut. Ses chansons sont heureses et donnent un joie de vivre. Maintenant il a un CD nouveau qui s'appelle 'Le Garçon Qui En Savait Trop.'

 

Mais surtout Mika a une personnalité charismatique merveilleuse. Il trés gentil, trés amicable, trés doux et et amusant. Et je pense qu'il aime ses fanatiques. Il nous rencontre apres les concerts. J'ai eu la bonne chance de lui ai rencontré cinq fois.

There's no ather synonim for Sweet expect "Gentil"

Doux is not really for sex, but it's used in it.

You can also say it for (looking for an exemple ^^)

Doux is perfectly acceptable in this sentence, and I wouldn't interpret it as sthg sexual at all. But maybe I'm just very naive and innocent

Maybe you can say,

 

"Car sa mere est libanaise, Mika, bla bla bla..." then , you finish the sentence. (I don't remeber it )

Hi Ruth! I'm new here, I'm French and as I said in my introduction I would love to help anybody with French work or translation in French/English. I'm not one of the teachers in this thread but I guess I can help anyway. So, about your work, first of all well done you are really good at French! If you don't mind I'll give you some advice on some bits of your text. In the first part when you say "je suis très contente" I think you want to say "I was happy" so "j'étais très contente".

Then "il est un jeune homme", you'd rather say "c'est un jeune homme". it sounds more natural.

"depuis neuf ans" would be "pendant neuf ans" (depuis means since and pendant means for).

"grand et mince" is fine.

"lebanese" = libanaise.

for "friendly", you could put "amical" or "aimable". you can say "fans" for "fanatiques".

"things I loved about my husband" = les choses que j'aimais chez mon mari

"when we met" = quand nous nous sommes rencontrés (we use "être" not "avoir")

"tall, dark, handsome" maybe grand, beau, ténébreux?

 

I love how you talk about him by the way! You're a real fan! and so lucky to have met him 5 times!
