Pourquoi avoir choisi ce titre pour ce nouvel album ? The boy who knew too much, c’est une référence au film The man who knew too much d’Alfred Hitchcock dont je suis fan. Je voulais un titre qui évoque le cinéma. Parce que quand j’ai écrit cet album, j’avais l’impression de créer une sorte de dessin animé de mon adolescence. Dès la première écoute, ce disque donne le sourire. Rendre les gens heureux, c’était ton objectif ? Je n’ai pas nécessairement de but quand j’écris. C’est quelque chose de complètement instinctif. Et si je compose des chansons qui font du bien, c’est d’abord pour me rendre heureux. C’est assez égoïste comme trip. Dans mes chansons, j’évoque des choses dures ou tristes, alors j’essaie de leur donner un sentiment d’espoir. La pop, c’est parfait pour ça. Est-ce les notes ou les textes qui viennent en premier ? Je fais tout en même temps. Je me mets dans une sorte de transe derrière mon piano. Souvent ça va très vite. J’écris une chanson en moins d’une heure, en général. Pour cet album, j’ai composé 48 morceaux et j’ai fait 60 démo. Le choix des chansons de l’album a-t-il été difficile ? Non. Une fois que tout est écrit, ça devient très clair. Je regarde les chansons comme des bâtiments : certaines me semblent très droites, très solides, d’autres ont l’air mal foutues. Celles-là, je les planque. Ça me rendrait malade qu’on écoute des morceaux de moi que je ne trouve pas bons. À 26 ans, tu ne cesses de parler d’enfance. Est-ce qu’un jour, on découvrira un Mika adulte ou resteras-tu éternellement un adolescent torturé ? Je ne sais pas. C’est quoi un adulte, au juste ? À part avoir plus de responsabilités ? Être adulte ce n’est pas un choix. On est simplement contraint de le devenir. En plus, je pense que c’est bien de garder une perspective adolescente sur la vie. À cet âge, on réagit beaucoup, on est vite révolté. C’est sain et authentique. Mais je te rassure, je ne souffre pas du complexe de Peter Pan. Quelle est la chose la plus extravagante que tu aies faite avec l’argent que tu as gagné ? À part des illustrations, je n’achète pas grand-chose. Je ne suis pas très à l’aise avec l’argent. Je n’ai pas de carte de crédit, par exemple. Je paie tout en espèces. Dans ma vie quotidienne, je ne dépense pas beaucoup. Par contre, je mets le paquet sur mes spectacles. Il y a deux ans, alors que tous les concerts étaient pleins à craquer, ma société de tournée a fait faillite. Je dépensais sans compter. Côté business, je suis assez nul. Mika est-il un homme heureux ? [Long silence] Oui, mais si tu m’avais demandé ça il y a un mois, j’aurais dit non. Passé la promo, j’ai un peu repris la scène et ça va mieux.
