"It is a tribute to what she has transmitted to me for good and for worse. She trained me from a very young age. There was a lot of love, but also pressure and expectation. She always said that the enemy was mediocrity. It was hard to live with it all the time. In reality, she gave me a key to freedom.

To be raised with such pressure and expectation, takes a strong person to make sense of it and give it a meaningful place in life. The lingering danger lies in that it‘s sometimes hard to be content with the ordinary if you can’t be or have the extraordinary. Which ultimately is an incredibly subjective scale.

I think it’s the quintessence of the album and I am glad this interviewer recognized it and asked him this question.

He's wearing the same jacket as on his Belgium trip in early December, so that might have been prerecorded then as well.
