Burlesque, pin up, showgirl, Cabaret and vaudeville Thread
S&M replied to Lolliepop_girl's topic in General Chin Wagging
I just watched 'The Notorious Bettie Page', a biopic. It's a pretty good movie actually, even if it left out some aspects of her life. The actress playing her, Gretchen Mol, was a good choice. A comparison: Has anyone else seen or heard of the film?- 461 replies

I don't like the fact that not only do I not look my age people's assessments seem to be I'm either a teen or in my 30's. In the space of one day I was asked for ID then later a new co-worker asked if I have any kids. Wtf?

What an unsatisfying finish! I want to know who did did it. Yep, the spin off will be called The Farm and it'll be set in a women's prison (so maybe we'll find out who did it in the end?). The fact that Alice will be in it and the fact that she's the one who left to find Jenny makes me think that she's copping the blame even if she is or isn't innocent. I think it's an awesome film, definitely deserving of its awards, and indeed both inspiring and frustrating because it's sadly still relevant today. Which reminds me: did anyone see Dustin Lance Black's Oscar acceptance speech? It's quite moving.

I like the contrast of the girly clothing with the attitude of tattoos, it's classy and cheap all at the same time, both retro and modern.- 461 replies

I am so looking forward to it. Much more than I'm looking forward to Mika's next album, actually. I already love "Vulture" and "Who Will?". The live/acoustic version of the latter: (from 1:30). Definitely my favourite 'slow' song of his as well as Wind In The Wires, Souvenirs, Wolf Song, and London.

You're right, there'll be no more Shane. I wonder what Kate Moennig will do next, and whether she'll ever be able to shake off the typecast. I'm going to miss Bette the most, there are so few alpha female characters like her on TV. And of course I'll also miss seeing Jennifer Beals' stunning self regularly onscreen. Alice, though, will live on in the spin-off The Farm. Thank goodness for that at least. P.S. Supposedly Carmen (possible spoiler!) might appear in the finale. I'm looking forward to seeing if the rumour is true or not.

Tonight the last ever episode of the L Word will air. It'll be really sad to see it go, especially since visibility in mainstream TV is even lower now than when the show started. But I guess every show has its time. Last week's episode (featuring a charity dace competition) brought us a new favourite Bette Porter quote: "They've got wigs and spandex, this is no f*cking joke, we have no idea what they're capable of." So, does anyone else watch the show? Will anyone else miss it?

Wise choice, Bec. *sage nod* Hello to everyone else. I've been kind of neglectful lately. *zhhz*

Enjoy the rest of your time in Brighton. I've started uni for the year again. Boring already. Instant Mika, just add brightly coloured jeans and 3kg of plastic accessories. Good one.

'Don't run with scissors' is now 'don't watch Ellen with scissors'.

The other day at the hairdresser's Ellen was on and she had animals doing a cute trick of some sort (I don't know what exactly since I had my glasses off) and my hairdresser was so distracted she chopped off a part of my eyebrow. Luckily she was able to shape it to disguise it a bit. But the illusion that Ellen could do no evil intentional or otherwise has been shattered.

Reminds me of the Grace Kelly video and somehow vaguely of Kanye West.

I love ABBA. They consistently produced some of the catchiest music of last century. If I had to choose my favourite song it'd be an 11-way tie: Dancing Queen, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Head Over Heels, SOS, Fernando, Money Money Money, Voulez Vouz, Mamma Mia, Waterloo, Take A Chance On Me, Thank You For The Music. Also, their fashion was just damn cool.

Spike FTW. It's true, Edward Cullen is even more annoying than Angel. But if I were to make one I'd put Lestat telling Louis that Edward Cullen is worse than him.

Good taste.

So would that be A4 or foolscap size? I think I might get one, how much is it?

Is it one of these: If so, how big is it? And how strong? Looks like the metal is pretty thin.

Do you have the equivalent of Pay-less Shoes and Spend-Less Shoes in the UK? My money is on that's where he got them.
