It explodes and reveals the backup singer dressed like an angel with wings and all. Lights go down again, first notes of Relax, Mika enters stage and all hell breaks loose!! All the people in the audience are yelling, claping and welcoming Mika with thunder! Big girl with the inflatable missus. Mika, bassist and back up singer shake their bottoms while lookink at the rubber godess. Priceless!! My interpretation. Absolutely excellent performance. Mika's voice was in top form throughout and it shone specially here and in a handful of songs during the set. Then Billy Brown with a funny intro in Spanish (quite good) about his record company not wanting to release this song in the states. Everybody booed and he said "but I did it all the same" and the song about his friend began. Holy Johnny. A rendition with banjo (played by key player), acc guitar, upright bass, that thing used, in ancient times, to do the laundry and used by buskers to play music, and wonderful vocals by... everyone. Any other world. What can I say? One of my favourites so I'm partial and I would be unfair to other songs. Tears. What a great voice. Did I say that before? Ring ring. One of the most muscular songs of the set. It returned the "power" to the showas it had had three more "downtempo" songs. Amazing is the only word I can muster. Raw power. How much do you love me? New song so nobody knew the lyrics or the rhythm but Mika made us sing some parts and it was like some kind of ritual. Stuck in the middle. New arrengement which gives it more power and punch. You will be blown away by the guitar playing and the new ending. Fabulous. Missionary man. As much as I liked the covers of Same Jeans, Sweet dreams, Hips don't lie (funny) this is THE COVER. It's thought as a duet between Mika and his backup singer and it shines. Both are outstanding. When you go to the gig in your time, wait for it. No happy ending. Oh...my...god! It floored me. I could not believe it was possible to top the CD version. Now, I'm a believer. I've seen the truth and his name is Mika. Mighty vocals and supreme musicianship. The song still lingers in my ears. Love Today. The most energetic song from the show. All the band in top form and Mika over the top. Solos from everyone (wait for the bass) and colossal percussion solo fron Cherisse and Mika. He even took his shirt off (to the delight of 60% of the audience, my son included). No better ending for the show... well... Grace Kelly. My ears bleed after having heard this song over two hundred times or more in less than a year but I like it every time I hear it. In the concert you hear the audience but I suppose that Mika was singing with us! He goes away but he returns for Lollipop. Not the best song from the album (for me) but it really stands out as a live number. I won't tell you about the Chinese shadows play at the beginning or about the party at the end but let it be said that the concert ended at its arguably highest. But he returns again as we are quite stubborn here in Barcelona and he plays Relax again to an ecstatic Palau Sant Jordi. He asked us if we wanted to start all over again; I for one wouldn't have minded standing for another hour and twenty minutes. Some general considerations. Mika and his band were happy and that makes you happy. Thay were enjoying every second on stage. No "attitude" like that used by almost every new singer or band as it's either "sad" or "angry" or "hate you". He said that he was prepared to play for 600 people at Razzmatazz (2000 would be closer to reality) and he found that he had to play for 6000 (I think we were more people there evn though the Palau had been cut in half). He thanked us a lot of times (part as a courtesy and part because he believed so). He was expecting a bucket and we gave him a full lorry. THANKS to yo Mika. If I could see him again in concert I wouldn't hesitate. I hope he records soon andhe returns to the circuit...He hasn't left yet... well... Greetings from Barcelona. el profe Posted October 19, 2007 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Hi again (and this makes three) First thanks to everyone who said thanks but after seeing Mika live writing praise comes really easy. I wanted to say a pair of things more. First, the show is jus 75 minutes (80 if you add Relax II) but the intensity of the music and interpretation of it makes up for hours and hours of soulless music. Second, please bring on the recordings and videos (and hoping for a complete recording of the show either audio or video) they are well recieved even if you only see them once. I was at his concert yesterday in Barcelona. At first the concert had to take place in Razzmatazz (it's a little place to make concerts, disco...) but at last it take place in Palau Sant Jordi, because we were a lot of people and Razzmatazz was little for us!!! Palau Sant Jordi is the most big place for concerts in Barcelona. The big stars go there to sing when their tour stops in Barcelona. The concert was incredible!!!!!! 6000 persons were there!!! Mika was very happy!!! I was near to the stage!!! At first, he salute us with: Bona nit, Barcelona!!! ("Good night, Barcelona" in catalan, our language!!). He said that he speaks spanish not very good and english very good, and he questioned us what language we wanted he speaked, and we said spanish He speaks spanish so gooooog! The concert started with Relax (fantastic!!!). I don't remember exactly the order of the songs, but it was really good!!! When Mika sang Big girl, a big inflable of a big girl appeared! When he sang Happy ending, there appeared a big skeleton who hugged Mika! When he sang Billy Brown, he said:"at first, the people who revised the song to include it in the cd renunciate to put it in, and I said them..." and the public answer: **** YOU!!! and Mika laughed and said that after a year, he was in Barcelona with his friend Billy Brown, and he started to sang. He sang some songs of his 2nd cd!! They are soooo gooood!!!! The last song he sangs was Relax another time, but before that he sangs Lollipop, and he and the musicians that were there were disguised with animal disguises! He danced, he fighted... it was a show!!! And then a lot of big big big balloons appeared and a lot of confetti!!! Grace Kelly was fantastic too, and old the musicians that accompaigned Mika were extraordinary! It was a magic night and a magic concert that I'll never forget. Barcelona loves Mika!!!!!!!!!!!! Just a quick one to say a bit about last night, and when I´m back in London this weekend I´ll post a longer report (you know how I love to go and and on when I speak, specially if it´s Mika related:naughty:) Last night was AMAZING. Seriously, it was incredible. The atmosphere, the vibe, Mika, it was all unbelievable!!! He did it again, he totally amazed and hooked me, and I can safely say that every show I go to becomes better than the one before. Of course one thing is that we´re losing that intimacy of the small venues, which I am truly sad about, but as this is something that can´t be changed (sigh!) then at least I´m happy that we are gaining better and better shows all the time. Of course the singing was flawless, and his energy was electric, he gave it all once again, he was even speaking a lot of Spanish which obviously pleased the crowds, lol, and just every song he did was better than the one before. I actually loved the new Holy Johnny, which I wasn´t sure of after seeing videos. It was fantastic, and soo good to watch live. He´s just so freaking good anyway, but that song always does it for me. I absolutely adore it. What else....Missionary man was also unbelievably good, he did a fantastic job at duetting with Sara and they were both excellent. She was actually quite good although I still think that she sometimes acts in a way that I don´t particularly like. But hey i´t my opinion which I am entitled to, right? She´s an amazing singer and does work very well with Mika, and funny enough but it did look like her presence was not so...erm..."there", she was more of a band member like the rest of them except -naturally- for the duet with MM. The strange thing is that Mika did Happy Ending by himself, I found that a bit weird...It was incredible and the crowds went mad, but I thought he´d do it with Sara....oh well, it was fantastic anyway, so my big thumbs up to him! One thing that I did want to mention which made me very angry about the people there is that, despite it being a non-smoking venue, people were smoking like there was no tomorrow. Then they announced via the speakers that it was forbidden...and people kept smoking. This lack of respect really made me angry, and made me ashamed of the fact that this was happening in my country. I find it horrible and totally unacceptable, and all I could think of is that Mika would be so mad and disappointed when he smelled the smoke in the air.... Anyway, on a positive note regarding crowds it was quite good:no pushing at all, no shoving, and people were very civil in that regard. And I have taken about 100 pics some of which are excellent, and a few videos, which I will upload somewhere when i get back. They are quite good quality, the only problem with the videos is that you can hear us singing so loudly that poor Mika is often drowned! haha!!! Oh and have I mentioned how AMAZING it was to speak to him afterwards? He liked my Pink Cowgirl outfit (or so he said, haha, maybe he was just being polite and felt the need to mention it since there were only a few of us in fancy dress, lol) but in any case he was as lovely as ever...It´s just always so short isn´t it? One always wants to chat to him for hours but it was so nice of him to come out and meet us, cause there were a lot of people there and it was late, and they had their bus ready to go... And he is such a lovely, normal, sweet, down to earth person:wub2:. The other guys also came out, and Cherisse and Sara stayed behind a little, and Mikey and Luke came to the fence. It felt like a prison movie, hahaha, talking through the fence :roftl:but they were both very nice too. Anyway the purpose of this post was to give a quick update and of course me being me it has gone on for ages, so I will post it now and do a good one this weekend.
