Im sure its Mika .... why would it not be?

Sorry but I completely disagree.

I would imagine it is a stereotype of someone, not sure who, but maybe he saw someone who is "the lonely alchoholic" and decided to add to it to be over the top and the masterpiece was born.

IDK though, this is just my imagination of it.

yes,but Mika said : "Every songs has a little story"

so if its about nobody-just a feigned man,the "every song has a little story"its false...

so that's why I don't understand it...:thumb_yello:

i think it might be about the different people he's come across and the different characters... and he's the writer. i always imagine it like he's walking down a street and looking at all the different people going about their lives... but that's just me

You're a lonely alcoholic with a tendancy to whine

Well you speak it, and you drink it, and bore us all the time

Say you drink out of your sorrow cos you've got no-one to love

But tell me who could cuddle up to a lonely alcoholic?

You're a stressed out single mother who has clearly been harrassed

Well you can't predict the future, for you can't erase the past

Cos your baby isn't going anywhere but up

So join the line and get the dole for the stressed out single mothers

I'm a mediocre writer who sings all of the time

Writing songs about misfortunes and other people's crimes

Well they say that I am doing my duty to the world

Or you can say that that is onerous, I'm just craving to be heard

Well who is there to listen to the problems of our lives?

We've got kids who just don't eat enough and men with many wives

If we're altogether screaming why can't we make a sound?

Cos the dirt on which we're stepping is the one in which we will be found

I find that the lonely alcoholic and the single mother are two different peoples. I don't know why, but the instrumental bit in between the two verses suggests to me that it's two different topics, and also because they don't really relate to each other. Like, he doesn't mix the alcoholic and the mother together. If that makes sense.

I just think it's a couple of examples of how sad life can sometimes be for some people and that we all have our points of desperation (last verse).

Just my opinion...

I think most writers don't necessarily use real persons. It might just be a personification of a feeling. (But not necessarily his feeling.)

Or, it might be a real person. What the hell do I know. :mf_rosetinted:

I think so too, as a writer you're always looking for characters to build a story on, you come across someone, or just hear about a something and your imagination does the rest!:thumb_yello::naughty:

It's NOT Mika!

Otherwise we'd be listening to TBWDTM (The Boy Who Drank Too Much), instead...

It could even be his nextdoor neighboor who throws empty bottles at Gaga whenever she visits, yelling at her:

Hey, *****!, you forgot your ******* skirt!

I think we have the answer now :biggrin2:

listen to this interview :wink2:

Thanks a lot Marina for finding this very interesting interview:flowers2:

Based on Mika words, he had a prototype in the real life (the old mean man from the local pub) whom he used to meet often. But this is just a starting-point for his lyrics.

Actually, there are three separate characters: LA, Single mother and a narrator which all have the same destiny. Namely, they all crave to be heard, accepted and loved by other people.:boxed:

Even though he wrote three different stories they cross together in the chorus which is the climax of this deeply moving song. The autobiographical elements are in the background and not visible, but as Mika said in the Brasilian interview it had probably a lot to do with his personal life expereince.:wink2:
