Showtunes17
Am i the only one who is GUTTED by this choice!?! When he released Love today i was like "Cool love this song, hopefully Relax Take it easy will be next" and then he released Big Girl and " i was like hmm ok fine love that song EVEN MORE but hoping for relax next" BUT then he releases Happy ending??????????????? In my honest opinion i think this should have stayed as an album track; Don't get me wrong i don't mind "Happy Ending" but i just can't help thinking it won't make as much as an impact as "RTIE" Ideally i would have liked him to release the singles : 1. Grace Kelly 2. Relax Take It Easy 3. Lollipop 4. Big Girl/Happy Ending 5. Love Today In that order. I just don't understand why he is ignoring "RTIE" for the UK does he think we'll toss our noses up at it?
CazGirl
he released RTIE in summer 2006 as a soft release but it didnt make him - grace kelly did.
Showtunes17
Relax Take it easy was a limited release XXXX amount of copies i think it was; not an official one like Grace Kelly!
CazGirl
i know, but even when he released grace kelly it took a while for people to notice him. maybe he doesnt think that RTIE is a good release for the UK audience, or maybe that because he released it last year he doesnt want it played again and to annoy those that already knew the song from the year before? kk448
Hah, I don't think it'll really matter here since I probably wouldn't hear about it until he makes a video. Then they'll start showing it a couple months later on MTV in the mornings like they do with Love Today now.

I think he (or whoever) thinks that Relax has been done already... no point in going over it again. TBH, I think Happy Ending is a pretty good choice -- it shows range, it's not a typical uptempo pop song, so perhaps it will grab the attention of people who weren't turned on to Grace Kelly and Love Today... and believe it or not, there were some! I've said before I'm not sure that Grace Kelly was the right song to introduce Mika to the American public. I can sorta understand why it didn't catch on here as it did in the UK (and pretty much the rest of the world!). I think Happy Ending has a slightly better chance of doing well here... I'm hopeful! (But I still think Ring Ring would be an even better choice for the states... but maybe I'm a bit biased -- I do love that song! ) dcdeb

I agree with you on Happy Ending being a good choice. It was high time Mika released a slower song to show another side of his great musical talent. And the high quality of his voice is particularly evident in Happy Ending. But I disagree with the idea that Grace Kelly was not the right song to introduce Mika. At least in my country, people were drawn to Mika by it and, maybe, by Love Today. Both songs are still a success. I think his choices have been very good, so far. Well, but this is just an opinion. I LOVE Grace Kelly... and I agree with you that it was the right song for the UK and other parts of the world. But what I was saying was I don't necessarily think it was the right song for the US. It's just a little too different for the masses here in the states, where rap, hip-hop and groups like Nickelback and Daughtry and the like still dominate the radiowaves. When I first heard Grace Kelly, back in January, I fell in love with it, and Mika, but I wasn't sure it was going to be the breakout hit here in the states... I was hoping, but I was afraid it just wouldn't be as popular here. And sadly it wasn't. I just checked and Life in Cartoon Motion is at #115 on the Billboard 200 chart. It looks like it's not even sold 200,000 copies total in the US -- Imagine how many more people are in the US! In contrast, #1 album in the US this week is by a hip hop group called UGK, and #2 is by rapper Plies. #7 is by Common, #9 is by T.I., #12 is by Linkin Park, #14 Sean Kingston and #15 Nickelback. (Of course, there is some teen pop on the charts too, like Disney Channel's Miley Cyrus.) But let's hope Happy Ending changes all that! dcdeb
Christine
im confused.... RELAX started playing on the radio in israel.... a lot now and its playing a lot in other countries in europe... Different tracks are released in different countries at different times. I think she's talking specifically about the UK. Relax was released in Canada a few weeks ago too and is doing well, but hasn't been released in the US and the UK release was before Grace Kelly. But what I was saying was I don't necessarily think it was the right song for the US. As far as public response goes, Grace Kelly could have been successful in the US. The probem is they've run into the same industry closed mindedness that had Mika struggling for years and consequently it didn't get any radio play. Even if 95% of the US population couldn't stand it, that still leaves 15 million people who would love it just as much as fans around the world do. Every single person in the country is not listening exclusively to R&B and hip hop no matter how popular it is. If they would just play the bloody record on US radio, he could double or even triple his worldwide sales of LICM. Maybe it's time to move to plan B and Mika should start driving around drunk with Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton in the back seat. He'll be a household name in the US overnight. lovelove_mika
I'm actually thrilled with this idea. It's so strange, the day before I read about this, I was listening to happy ending and i thought to myself that this should be his next single. lollipop_monkey
I love, love, love Happy Ending. It is a timeless piece of musical genius. I could wax poetic for hours about how utterly amazing that particular track is. It's one of my favourites off LICM, and one of my favourite songs of all time. That said, I'm petrified it will crash and burn on North American radio - and I think that depresses me more than the idea of any of the other tracks doing poorly. Simply because I am so completely enamoured with that song, and the idea of closed-minded hip-hop zealots trashing such a fabulously amazing piece of music breaks my heart. I am super excited about the idea of a music video for it, though. I guess time will tell!

You have a valid point there! I don't think I've heard either Grace Kelly or Love Today played more than once on commercial radio here. I've only heard Grace Kelly on satellite radio a few times; don't think I've heard Love Today at all. Except on BBC Radio 1, of course. Maybe it's time to move to plan B and Mika should start driving around drunk with Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton in the back seat. He'll be a household name in the US overnight. Ack! Christine! Bite your tongue! Not even in jest should Mika be lumped together with those "celebrities." dcdeb
