Oh well, Mika will just have to write for some more films, that's all there is to it!

Winner is

Polish composer Paweł Lucewicz is named Breakthrough Composer of the Year after being widely heralded for his outstanding score for Forgotten Love, a remake of a beloved Polish film from the 1980s, which elicited a score of great beauty and deep emotion to follow the story of man searching for his lost family.

IFMCA member John Mansell described the score as “a mesmerizing and beautiful score, utilizing tender sounding strings and piano to purvey an air of heartfelt moments … subtle but affecting thematic interludes and nuances adding depth, and deep emotions creating an atmosphere and mood that is overflowing with poignancy that gives the already touching storyline greater impact.”

Such a shame Mika didn't win! Hopefully he will go on to do more film scores.

Had another search to see if Zodi will be released in the UK and came across this voice actress' website, Ruth Urquhart. Here in her news section she mentions being the dub voice for Zodi's mum, this is from Feb 2023 though, but it does sound promising!

Not sure if this is too interesting but Zodi is also on this list of films on Quick Look Films which is a US based site (there's no release information though). It's in alphabetical order so Zodi is way at the bottom btw!

Ruth Urquhart wrote...

"The cast acquitted themselves well and the film apparently sounds great!

It is soon to be released in the UK, and I believe can be seen in arthouse cinemas."

:uk: Happy for UK fans !

In Italy the movie should be available on the streaming services of Prime Video and Mediaset Infinity.

I watched  over a month ago. It's interesting how the title of the movie changes according to the language.

French:  Zodi et Téhu, Brothers of the desert

Italian:   Teo e Zodì, A camel as a friend

German:  Princes of the desert, Faster than the wind

Prinzen der Wüste – Schneller als der Wind (2023)

translation of the movie critic (I left out the plot description), including a sentence about Mika's soundtrack, which they call "convincing". :thumb_yello: I found a few more German reviews of the movie, but this seems to be the only one (so far) that mentions the soundtrack, and in a very positive way. :wub2:

The film is very schematic in its drawing of the villain. In addition, the work obviously avoids any social realist perspective, which makes the depiction of the United Arab Emirates a bit too naive. The strengths of Princes of the Desert lie in the moments that focus entirely on the increasingly close connection between the human and animal protagonists. The design and embodiment of the characters who support Zodi to the best of their ability, such as Zodi's worried mother Amina (Nadia Benzakour), are also achieved in a much more subtle way. Julia, a veterinarian played by Alexandra Lamy, becomes an important caregiver for the twelve-year-old.

When Zodi and Téhu are confronted with a sandstorm or a rescue operation is necessary, the production creates tension suitable for young people. The score by the Lebanese-British singer and composer Mika aka Michael Holbrook Penniman, who became a pop star with songs like Relax, Take It Easy, is also convincing. Princes of the Desert offers solid entertainment that will help ensure that the close bonds between young people and animals will continue to be part of the children's cinema repertoire.

Happy to be able to watch the movie together with my kids now that they released a German version! :cheer:

Edit: Just found another review that praises Mika's soundtrack: https://kindundkegel.de/themen/verlosungen/prinzen-der-wueste.html Translation of that part:

A film for the whole family that can also be enjoyed (auditory, ed.), because musical support comes from MIKA, who has been storming the charts with his hits since 2007 and who provides the soundtrack for Barbier's film.

This is usually done to make a film more appealing within each country of release, there's also the Spanish title
'Zodi & Tehu, aventuras en el desierto' (Adventures in the Desert). I'm still hopeful for a UK release, I'd imagine it will use the English title Princes of the Desert when it does make its way over here.

I keep checking myself from time to time but there's still no news of a release just yet. With other countries getting the film I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be released here! (but it looks like it might be Mikasoon! 😆).

Uscita prevista: novembre

(emphasis mine)

Translation: A touching adventure embellished by music composed by Mika, who for the first time creates a  soundtrack for the cinema.

..........................

Maybe someone  can suggest a better translation for "impreziosita."
