How could Sophie and Maori Mika BOTH have registered their names as "MIKA"???

I was wondering the same thing:boxed:

lol. facts:

belgium mika-

-real name: SOPHIE

-located: uh, Belgium

-famous for: not actually famous

-occupation: sings reggae music

-releases: five albums, sold for £2 on her website.

misc:

-no-one actually knows her, even in her home country

Maori mika-

-located: New Zealand (i think thats what NZ stands for anyway :roftl:)

-famous for: isn't really famous either

-occupation: said he was in a few shows. and tours. Sometimes in England. Still, no-one actually really knows who this guy is either and everyone knows MICA doesn't do these kind of shows.

MIKA-

-real name: Mica Penniman

-located: London, England

-famous for: Hit single "Grace Kelly" which charted at UK's #1 including his -debut album "Life in Cartoon Motion".

-occupation: singer/songwriter

-releases: one album so far, which went to #1 and four top ten singles.

misc:

-has toured around the world with sell-out shows.

Okay, I have read this twice and it seems (to me, correct me if I'm wrong) that NZ mika was already dealing with Mika's people on this.

And has only recently gone to the press due to the Belgian Mika. So it seems to me, that he handled it differently, or less publicaly (until now at least)

he only recently came to light after contacting mikas people he has been recognised that he too has "her" name.

Because one registered in new zealand and the other registered somewhere else and until now, because mika has become mika also, the people catch up with eachother,

Muahhahhahaa! I hope that these two little known Mikas will end up fighting with each other and totally forget our Mika's existence. :fisch::lmao:

oh they will im almost sure of it

no no no

Maori mika-

-located: New Zealand (correct)

-famous for: released 3 albums in new zealand and sings to international audiences in Maori.. known in New Zealand as a gay Maori cabaret artist.

-occupation: said he was in a few shows. and tours. Sometimes in England. Still, no-one actually really knows who this guy is either and everyone knows MICA doesn't do these kind of shows. (correct, only known really in New Zealand)

All things said,

honestly, for one to confuse the 3 of them, one would have to have lost a few brain cells wouldnt you agree?

how does one confuse:

A Lebanese born french rased Mika

with

A Maori gay Kiwi Cabaret artist Mika who specialises in DRAG!

with

A Belgian reggae "star" Mika who so far is not recognised even in her own country, dispite releasing many albums

Its beyond me, I think they all have their signatures their own style, and they are all completely different, nobody should mistake mika for mika for mika

I know, our mika shouldnt be involved, the only reason our mika is brought into this is the fact hes making it bigger and getting more $$$ than the rest of them have ever reached, I so want to see them turn on eachother and start fighting between them and leave our mika.

I think it's just as ridiculous as the rest of you. Belgian Mika is a joke. But Kiwi Mika really seems quite sensible. He was mainly protecting his rights to continue using the name he has made a name for himself with, so to speak. (As opposed to Belgian Mika whose main goal seems to be to make Mika Penniman change his name or pay up. Plus I bet she likes the attention she's getting from the press in the process..)

New Zealand's Mika says he can "completely understand" the Belgian singers' concerns. He says he owns the name 'Mika' and sought legal advice to ensure the UK pop star couldn't stop him using the name. At one point, Mika's lawyers even suggested the UK pop star's stage name could be changed to 'Mica'.

"I registered the name Mika, and they've agreed that it's fine for me to keep using my name," the Kiwi Mika explains.

"I understand completely where the Belgian singer's coming from, except she's a Belgian reggae music star, I'm a gay Maori artist. I don't think we are really that similar to someone who sings songs about Grace Kelly in a high woman's voice in tight white pants," he laughs.

And that last quote is just priceless :lmfao:

this is so unneccessarily complicated.

Mica changed his name to MIKA.

Why? Pronounciation problems.

Sophie changed her name to MIKA.

Why? Because there's a "MICHA" spelling in her last name, which is pronounced "MIKA".

Mica lives in London, England, and so he can keep his stage name in the UK and around the globe, apart from Belgium.

Sophie lives in Belgium and should therefore not ask Mica to change his name altogether everywhere he tours. If she is totally serious about it - which she apparently is - then she should only ask him to change his name when he visits Belgium.

But why change the name?

Despite her, er, "efforts", Sophie is still struggling up the popstar ladder with singles and albums that have flopped (why her record label hasn't dropped her yet is beyond me). Her front name is MIKA, she registered/copyrighted it BEFORE Mica did (in the 1980's actually, so either before he was born or when he was a baby), and therefore has a right to keep it.

Why? Because as she is still making a name for herself, she doesn't want anyone sabotaging her chances (even though let's face it - the third one is the lucky charm sweetie not the sixth if you have the pride and bravery to release another). With two MIKA's in the same country it *may* get confusing, although I do believe it would only cause complications if she was at a similar status. If she kept her mouth shut no-one would have probably known any better.

So why did she speak up?

- she has a right, whether we like it or agree with it or not.

- It causes controversy. Controversy is like gossip and spreads as easy as a disease. Therefore, her name is in the limelight and people speak about her. PUBLICITY.

- Money.

She's just trying to bring up her own career. I give her credit for trying so hard, but just like any other fighter, you should know when to quit. You've released five albums honey and you're STILL not successful. This is just 15minute fame. Once it's over, it's OVER. Go work in a shop.

Mica SHOULD have really searched the name MIKA before going ahead, although I guess he felt he didn't need to, since it is really his own name. But if it's registered, it's registered, and there's nothing we can do about it. He's only changing his name for one country. And it doesn't have to change to Mica, he doesn't have to change the spelling. It could be Mika Penniman. See?

That's why no-one is suing Mika Nakashima or Mika Hakkinen.

Mika Nakashima is an artist in JAPAN and therefore is not interefering with anyone else's career, but even if she toured in Belgium she would not be sued, because she is known as Mika NAKSASHIMA. She has a surname.

No-one is suing Mika Hakkinen because he's a driver and also has a surname.

Dunno why the New Zealand guy is getting involved though. Same as Sophie I guess, just with less reason xD He's clearly a tad more successful than she is.

That was so long winded.

Basically:

Sophie is in the right

Mica is not.

Mica will only change name when entering Belgium

Sophie will shut up

Maori will continue to rave because he is a drag queen, and therfore a natural diva.

Any questions? :roftl:

And there are even more Mika's on my space:shocked:

The lawyers should use the info in this tread to defend Mika.

If the name is registered twice shouldn't the lawsuit against our Mike be dismissed?

This is so strange it's registered in NZ and Belgium why can't a British artist do this aswell.

Someone explane this because I don't understand it

I find that last sentence completly stereotypical (yes being a dra queen prob means his a diva but...) and am going to point out that NZ Mika has, from the article, already discussed this with Mika's people over a period of time. As this is only just comin to light, I don't see him as 'raving' so to speak about how someone stole his name. He just seems concerned that he still be able to use the name.

(no offence)

Yes it appears from this artical that it has been all sorted between new zealand mika and our mika, the thing is (and cant find site on it right now) but coming out to the media in the way he did after settling out of court, made her Belgim mika know that hes there, and that hes also traiding on what she calls "her" name. Belgum mika will loose her case against our mika because the name has been registered twice, to two differnt people! and the case will be battled then by the two registered mika!
