I can't come to this concert. But I just want to warned Italian fans that this Monaco and laws are really stricts. Nobody is allowed to sleep in public space or to go camping or to sleep in a car. You will finished at the police office and have to pay for the infraction.

I'll be there..and I agree with Eva...I hope this concert will be SO quiet..I don't like caos or people that sleep waiting the gig..I hope it will be not like other free gigs..like Napoli...
We'll see... :wait:

How sad if fans need to be told not to act like homeless people at a gig. Monaco laws shouldn't really be necessary :naughty:

Sadly it has become a habit at italian gigs that people are queueing overnight. i joined them in milano, as i thought i could actually sleep better in the fresh air, than in the extremely overheated flat we had rented. It started raining tho, so i didn't sleep a second. And right now, i don't think i'll ever do that again. That's why i'm not so keen on italian gigs, although i love italy.

Anyway, this isn't italy. I'd be tempted to go, as the area nice and monaco are places i sure want to see some time. But don't think i can make it. Hopefully there'll be another monaco gig in the future, would be nice. :) have fun everyone who's going, hope it'll be more relaxed than the other free gigs in napoli and paris!

I think I've made pretty clear during these 2 years in MFC that I have no patriotic feeling, so pls believe me when I say that I've seen that going on with fans from other countries than Italy as well. And not in Italy, by the way.

I am not saying that this isn't happening in Italy, cause it is, but I don't like italians being labeled as the only ones who are doing that.

I went to Cattolica and Fabrique at 7 p.m. , by the way , but it's probably cause my room has air conditioning.

Whereas, just to be honest about everything, I queued quite early in Switzerland, even if it was chilly. I'm in a difficult relationship with temperature.

I saw no where Mika fans sleeping in front of the venue the night before a gig except in Italy since a year. It is going really crazy. I understand that people who come early the day of the gig to be in front row. But "early" is different in every country. In Swizerland befor XFactor we were queueing maximum 1 hour befor the doors opening even for festival.

People take their early queuing nonsense with them wherever they go regardless of where the gig is. And it started in 2007 so if we're going to point fingers the Italians had very little to do with establishing this insane competition between hardcore Mika fans. It doesn't matter what the local customs are because the hardcores are never competing with the local gig goers, but with each other.

agree with you, and if "trouble shared is a trouble halved" it doesn't affect only Mika fans  :wink2:

For example, I know a girl who went to London to Bruce Springsteen's free gig, without booking anything where to sleep, thinking to camp in the park where the gig had to be, and then she was told by the police that it was forbidden  :dunno:

Lately, in Italy people started to queue always earlier, I wonder what intentions to they have for the Autumn dates in sport halls, when the weather will be colder and many of them have school...

and I speak about Italy because my experience is based on that, I went only to a festival in Spain but it was a totally different event so I can't compare ;)

IMHO, if we focus (too much) the gig experience on having the front row, doing 20+ hours queuing, maybe bickering with other fans because someone cheats, someone pushes, and stuff like that, we get tired and moody before the gig starts and partially ruin our experience ...but of course, everyone chooses when to arrive,  if there are not rules who forbid anything  :wink2:

Yep, in the UK, NO UK fans will queue at insanrely early times.

At the beginning in 2007 the earliest we ever queued was 3pm, and even then it was just a couple of people. As time went on, if we had a hope in hells chance of getting near the front, we got forced into the 'who can get there ridiculously early' game, with the excuse being that UK fans would get there early, which was complete rubbish. We were constantly asking people NOT to queue at stupid times, because it made no sense, and pretty much pushed us into it, if wanted a remotely decent spot.

That problem isn't only an italian problem..this is true but in Italy this problem is bigger than in other countries! I don't know why italian fans usually waiting a gig in this way...in my opinion to spend the night in front of the concert's place is insane and fanatic! I don't like to stay in queue but I love to see gigs on the front row..so I always do the queue..but it's awful  to think I'll  spend my day with cold/hot time  (it depends on the saison) with, by the way, impolite people.. (I remember Napoli...it was the longest day of my life..!!! :sneaky2: )
I'd prefer to partecipate a concert without so much problems..in my opinion to start a queue in the afternoon is a good idea..but now it seems impossibile to do!

But everyone who is queuing early are doing it for the exact same reason as you... to get front row, not necessarily because they are insane and fanatics.  :dunno:

I think fanatism is when this is exaggerated like to spend the night waiting for the gig..I said this..

Waiting for a gig 2 days is insane in my opinion..

I disagree about the queueing problem only being an Italian thing. It happened in France in 2011. It happened in Amsterdam (not by Dutchies but still). It has happened in many places. Right now Italy is where the madness is but that used to be other countries. Regardless of who does it, it is insane behaviour. You can enjoy a gig so much more if you just have a good night's rest.

A lot of people posting in this thread participate in the "fanatic" queuing which makes you just as fanatic as every other fan who does this. Everyone shows up at the same time for the same reasons.

I am not judging anyone because I have been involved in competitive queuing. But as long as everyone keeps pointing the fingers at other fans it will never change and you'll have no one to blame but yourselves. if you decide to queue the night before a gig you are 100% responsible for that decision and can't claim to be any more rational than the other people in the queue with you.

I would not queue overnight. Ever. I do not queue more than a couple of hours anymore and I intend to never do it again. Rather than complaining about it I would advise people to consider making this choice themselves if they really find this crazy and intolerable. Especially people who have seen Mika and will continue to see Mika a million timea. If young Italians who can't afford to travel and were not around to see Mika 50 times in 2010 want front row then back off and let them have it. I mean when is enough enough?

Well, we've had this queueing discussion before. If someone wants to get to front row, they will do what it takes to get there. At least to a certain extent. Imo it's not a country thing per se, but just a question of how many fans want to get to front row at a certain gig. And well, since xfactor it's a LOT in italy. ;)

It's true, i've also seen the overnight queueing in france and finland - but afaik it always was just a handful of people, and not that you already get #50 at 5am, like i think it was the case in milan (anyway it wasn't just a handful of people arriving during the night). For me it's a huge difference whether i just spend the day in the queue, after a good night's sleep, or spend the whole night there too. Getting up early is (mostly) worth it for me, i also do that if i go on a skiing day trip, or to flea markets - so for special occasions, that would be a lot less worth it if i slept in. But spending the night in front of the venue (or at the flea market for getting a place to sell my stuff - i've also done that once at a special flea market! :aah:) is an absolute exception. Now i know that currently in italy there's not much of a chance for front row without doing it, i just won't go there, or if i do, be aware that i won't get to the front, as this is usually not worth it for me.

If I were six foot tall, I would probably be okay with a few rows back, but being five foot,  and usually getting stuck behind way taller people than myself, is my main reason for attempting front row.

And since everyone and their mother at concerts these days have their arms up with cameras and phones, taking pics and videos, doesn't make it any easier.

Nice thoughts but... that's another "never ending story"... and is part of the hardcore fans behavior and everyone knows.

Speaking about me,I had the front row once, and I don't think I will queue overnight to have it again at the next gig which will be in Rome and I guess there will be a lot of fans "competing" for it... once is enough for now.

*well, there's still more than a month to change my mindad (?) :P *

But of course,is only my thoughts and everyone has a different perspective based on its own experiences ;)

Yes, I agree with Christine that for me, enough is enough. I wouldn't critise anyone for queuing, I couldn't possibly, but for me those days are gone. Like anyone, I would be delighted if I could get front row just by strolling up at the appointed time... Or even an hour or so before that but it's not the way it is and I can do without all the stress etc that goes with it all. I watched from a distance at Rochefort last week and was so relieved that I wasn't involved. And to be honest, from our position, approx 15 or so rows back at the far left of the stage, with as much room as we needed to move/ dance etc we were quite happy.... It's just a different experience. We remained in our seats until just before Mika came on then just wandered down. But I also agree with Rose's point about it being a real pain, everyone putting their arms up to film.
