The Piano Christmas Special

We loved the series that saw pianists perform at train stations around the country and in this one-off special some of the ivory-tinklers perform seasonal tunes at London’s King’s Cross Station.

Host Claudia Winkleman and pros Mika and Lang Lang also return.

THE PIANO
After moving audiences to tears and quickly becoming one of the most popular midweek evening entertainment shows, The Piano is back with a Christmas Special. Claudia Winkleman is joined by classical pianist Lang Lang, and performer Mika. The special sees pianists from series one return to play festive numbers in London's King's Cross Station.

5 MINUTES WITH...CLAUDIA WINKLEMAN

Why was The Piano TV series such a success with audiences?

It's so excruciatingly authentic. We were lucky the three of us got on brilliantly. Love at first sight.

What does Christmas look like for you?

December 1st, brandy butter starts happening on toast in the mornings. On Christmas Day there's fake snow. I've hired reindeer - not really, but I would if I could.

Best tip?

I'm not brilliant at wrapping. But my daughter said, "Wrap everything in foil, then it's supposed to look messy"-she's very clever.

It's a printing mistake, I got a different TV mag today and The Piano is definitely on Christmas Day!

(sadly the magazine I got hardly gives The Piano a mention, there's no pictures! :crybaby:)

O come, all ye Faithful

Claudia Winkleman bans her family from watching her on TV at Christmas – but there will be singing, bridge and burnt gingerbread

You’re on our screens this Christmas with Strictly and The Piano, and then The Traitors in the new year. Will your family be gathering round to watch your shows?

Absolutely not. They aren’t allowed to watch anything I do. This year we filmed Traitors when the little ones weren’t at school, so they came to visit me. “Why are we in a castle, Mum?” They’ve never seen it. Much better. What do you enjoy watching at Christmas? We love Home Alone and I used to always watch ET at this time of year, so we’ll do that, too. We start listening to Christmas music with real gumption from 1 December and I put brandy butter on my toast every single morning. We love this time of year and still have the same decorations that I and my husband had as kids. They’re very moth-eaten and worn out, but who doesn’t like half a crocheted mouse hanging off a tree branch?

Was Christmas a big celebration in the Winkleman household when you were growing up?

We loved Christmas. I’ve kept some of the same traditions, but have skipped one that I used to love.

My mum would make a massive pot of chilli con carne – I’ve literally only just remembered this – on Christmas Eve, so if anyone was peckish in the week after Christmas (we inhaled the turkey), there was always something on the stove that could be heated up and covered in cheddar. Maybe I’ll do that this year. I also make gingerbread every year and it’s always, without fail, slightly burnt and slightly raw. It’s like I’ve broken science.

Where and how will you be spending Christmas this year?

Christmas Eve with family and Christmas Day with even more family. My brother and I are gravy obsessives and he’s a brilliant cook, so I ask him to make an extra batch and by 5pm we’re just drinking it like lemonade. Repulsive, but true. It’s also my mum’s birthday on Christmas Day, so after mince pies there’s cake and singing. We generally don’t move on Boxing Day.

Do you cook the turkey with all the trimmings?

Nobody wants that. I’d manage to ruin it. My brother makes it beautifully. I’m in charge of booze and cheese, so fewer things to mess up.

The Traitors is now a play-at-home board game. Will you don your velvet hood and have a go with your family? Or stick to charades?

We play bridge. My husband and I are obsessed and when I get fired from TV, I hope we can go on the bridge circuit. I’m being perfectly serious. How will you be bringing in the new year? The usual. With great friends and asleep by 12.04am.

What are your plans and hopes for 2024?

Health and happiness for my family and friends. And finally, are you a Traitor or a Faithful? That would be telling…

A Claudia Christmas

This is a gossip magazine and probably not to be believed :naughty:

I don't see it on Channel 4's schedule for December 19th currently, but I do think it was meant to be televised that date originally. Probably some publications went to press before Channel 4 changed their schedule, that's why we're seeing conflicting information.

WITH BELLS ON

Channel 4 drops first look at The Piano Christmas special as Claudia reunites with co-stars in emotional scenes

CHANNEL 4 has shared a first look at The Piano's Christmas special, which will see the show host and judges reuniting in emotional scenes.

The latest season of the show followed Claudia Winkleman as she hunted for the UK's most talented pianists in train stations across the country.

While aware they are playing to an audience, participants don't realise that they are also being watched by acclaimed pianist Lang Lang and musician Mika.

The judges use the show to find an amateur musician to perform at London's Royal Festival Hall.

This year everyone involved in the programme will travel to the London King's Cross Station to catch up with pianists from season one.

Each person will get the opportunity to play their favourite Christmas songs on the public piano.

Viewers will be also blown away by special performances by multi-Grammy winning artist Gregory Porter, and a finale led by the judges themselves.

And when they're not moved to tears by the power of music audiences will be laughing - most likely at the eccentric getup worn by Lang Lang and Mika.

In the sneak preview provided by Channel 4 the pair is gifted a festive double jumper by Claudia.

They look suspiciously at each other as they open the present, and Lang Lang exclaims in shock as they realise the garment is designed for them to wear together.
