QUEERTY.COM  Tue, Feb 6, 2007  Musical Notes: Mika To say that there’s buzz around Lebanon-born, London-based popster, Mika (born Mica Penniman) would be an understatement. Given the avalanche of praise, accolades and testimonials, one would think the release of his full-length debut, Life in Cartoon Motion, will change the course of music history forever, creating an aural aftershock heard all over the world. And, in some respects you’d be right: Mika’s album will most likely continue to be one of the most talked about albums of the year. And rightfully so. Whether it's history in the making - that remains to be seen. Nearly e…

Mika's still at No1 in the UK Article from http://www.contactmusic.com Eccentric pop star MIKA tops the British singles chart for the third week in a row with his debut single GRACE KELLY. The pop sensation beat off strong competition from guitar stars FALL OUT BOY's THIS AIN'T A SCENE IT'S AN ARMS RACE and BLOC PARTY's THE PRAYER, who charted second and fourth respectively. JUST JACK's STARZ IN THEIR EYES moved one place down from second to third. Elsewhere, NORAH JONES sophomore album NOT TOO LATE topped the UK album charts for the first time, beating this week's new entries, second placed MYTHS OF THE NEAR FUTURE by KLAXONS and JAMIE T's PANIC PREVENTION, whic…

THIS IS LANCASHIRE By David Adair 5 Feb 2007 The power of the Polyphonic Spree, the wistfulness of Jim Noir and the je ne sais quoi of Queen meet up in the musical orbit of this flighty ten track wonder. My Interpretation stands toe to toe with The Magic Numbers and The Mamas & The Papas, sending you flying with its deep seated vocal projection and a glorious, ranging melody. The centrepiece of the album, Any Other World, is pure theatrics in Michael Crawford-sized portions, veering just the right side of sentimentality. A fresh and bold sound ready to push the boundaries of pop music. CW.

The media are determined to put Mika into a stereotype. Pathetic really. CW. ---- THE SUN February 01, 2007 JUST when you thought MIKA couldn’t camp it up any more, he reveals his manbag. Mika, top of the charts with debut single Grace Kelly, was snapped after recording a performance at Radio 1’s Maida Vale studios in London. A manbag is an item only ultra-feminine blokes – like LIAM GALLAGHER and CRISTIANO RONALDO – would dare carry. Mika has been coy about his sexuality since hitting the headlines. And walking along the street sporting a fella’s purse is a perfect way to maintain the mystery.

Mika only mentioned in paragraph one here, but this article details strong competition in the UK album chart. Next week will be interesting. And if Billboard is listening, then America is listening..... I think. CW. BILLBOARD February 05, 2007 Paul Sexton, London As Mika's "Grace Kelly" (Universal Island) started a third week atop the U.K. singles chart, there was a No. 1 debut on the album survey for Norah Jones' "Not Too Late" (Blue Note). It's Jones' third straight bestseller on the British charts, following "Come Away With Me" (2002) and "Feels Like Home" (2004). There were no new entries in the top 20 of the singles chart, but as is now the norm un…

FLAMBOYANT new pop act Mika - whose debut single Grace Kelly tops the charts - has won the approval of the Princes of Monaco's youngest daughter Princess Staphanie. Not only that but Stephanie feels her mother - who gave up an Oscar-winning Hollywood career aged 26 to marry Prince Rainer in 1956 - would have enjoyed the track named after her. The princess, 41, says she has watched Mika perform his song via download and admits she's a fan. "He is very talented and handsome and I'm sure my mother would have liked the song very much," she gushes. Beirut-born Mika chose the Hollywood icon, who died in 1981 before he was born, as his muse because, he says, "The song …

Just watched the Channel 4 interview, where he performed, Love Today, Lolipop girl, Big Girls (You Are Beautiful) and Grace Kelly, talking in between about the songs, how he started his musical journey and his hopes for the future. It was a very entertaining 20 minutes, and he had two little green stripes on his cheek while he performed, made me think of Adam Ant.

DAILY MAIL It's Friday! Music 2 February 20-7 MIKA: Life In Cartoon Motion (Casablanca) HAVING spent the past fortnight on top of the singles chart with Grace Kelly Mika reiterates his talent on an album that showcases his abilities as a tunesmith and a showman. His falsetto vocals shine on some big, bubblegum pop tracks. But there is soft introspection, too, in My Interpretation and Happy Ending. Elsewhere, his songs are populated by fictional characters, such as Lollipop Girl and Billy Brown, and bright euphoric books that evoke Prince, Queen and Harry Nilsson. ***** (5/5) ----- CW.

MUSICOHM 01 February 2007 Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion (Island) UK release date: 5 February 2007 A few years ago, you'd probably be able to get pretty long odds on the possibility of the biggest pop star of the year being a Beirut-born Londoner, with Leo Sayer's hair and a bunch of songs hugely influenced by 70s disco and soft-rock. Throw in a remarkable vocal similarity to Freddie Mercury, and the bookies would be lapping up your cash. Yet that's exactly what's happened to Mika - winner of the prestigious BBC 'Sound of 2007' poll and widely tipped as the hottest new pop star of the year. The emergence of the Scissor Sisters over the last few years has und…
