Blame It On The Girls Video

I just can't imagine someone standing in a studio saying "okay if we were doing this dance in any other setting each girl would go down with very meticulous timing... but in this case, let's have all but two girls get it right. You two right there, I want you to go down together and make it look like you effed up. Oh, and Mika? Do your routine at the beginning like you're nervous about doing a choreographed dance. Make it look like you're not quite sure what to do with your legs, and move them with hesitancy." :teehee:

:lmfao: You underestimate Mika's choreographers.

If it was subtle, nobody would have noticed :naughty:

What? :lmfao:

Okay you've lost me. I've said the mistakes are subtle - as in, someone half-watching the video as it plays in the background while he tidies up his livingroom isn't going to notice said mistakes.

But someone sitting right in front of their TV or computer screen, actively watching the video - especially more than once - will notice the mistakes. And not in a "hey, that's cool, they're conveying a message" way, but in a "wow, they f*cked up that bit" sort of way. :aah:

I adore the video....However, I agree that there were a couple of irritating moments. The one thing that drives me INSANE is the fade-out transition at 1:50. I hate hate hate seeing that in a music video. That's windows movie maker stuff. :hair:

My favorite thing about the video: Mika's quirky, ridiculous dancing. :teehee: He knows he's not a fabulous, conventional dancer so he does his own thing. I don't think it's a matter of him not getting it right or not practicing, I think it's just Mika being Mika. :wub2:

I like the vid :teehee: It's looks a bit "old" to me. I don't know if it's because they had to rush (and used too little time and money) or is it made on purpose (I assume they are professionals, after all?). But I enjoyed the result :wub2: I feel small and stupid admitting that I actually like it a lot :aah:

But, I think Rain should have been before BIOTG! And in general I don't care about music vids so much. If I can choose, it's just Mika and his piano on the stage, lol :naughty:

I like it!:thumb_yello:

A lot!:wub2:

So do I, still. I haven't spent the weekend watching it nonstop, though. I've seen it, twice, I know what it looks like, I like it.

I love his unmentionable demos to bits. I think a good deal of the reason for that is that they're unpolished. Kind of.

Goodness knows, Mika doesn't need me to defend him, but I really LIKE

this video.

Something doesn't have to be perfect for me to enjoy it.

It's not that I don't see the flaws or wish he'd done a few things

differently (I'm not a fan of the orange, either)

-- but I'm not going to sit down and run the video in slow

motion every time I watch it looking to pick out the mistakes.

I love some things about the video very much. Other things I don't. But

overall, it plays, I watch it, I sing along, it makes me happy.

I'm not looking for a life-changing, religious experience in a Mika video,

just a little entertainment.

Totally agree! :thumb_yello:

Do you think? I seem to recall endless arguments about his videos.

...well until we were all blinded by those boxers. :teehee:

Hell, I'm still blinded by those boxers!

Actually, a good friend of mine commented on how weedy he looks in WAG... and I have to agree! :teehee:

I've been thinking this over and i realised Mika should have done this BIOTG vid on his pants too...

In fact, I think every vid from now on should be done with pants...That or vine leaves...

Even if the music sucks to non fans they always have something quite interesting to have fun with...

Peeps would start calling him The Boy Who doesn't Wear Much...

Even older vids like BG, GK, HE should be redone...

Mika would be in trouble hanging from the ropes in his pants though, in HE...

But this is it....pants or vine leaves, nothing else...who's with me?

Let's start a petition?

As scary as it was to see Mika in boxers, I'd be very curious to see what each film clip looks like with him in boxers... :das::naughty:

Nice siggie BTW...

No , it'll be fine, David Walliams is going to be in it

As a laydee?? :teehee:

Sorry, I watched Little Britain USA on TV last night and he was on there as a laydee... naked...:das:

id settle anyday for a clip of him taking a wizz in the loo :mf_rosetinted::fisch:

I could do without that image thanks very much...

Why is gushing about how fabulous Mika is considered okay, but as soon as people don't love a particular aspect of his work, people start saying "oh, what's up with all the moaning"? Can we not discuss the good and the bad where His Royal Mikaness is concerned? :roftl:

Don't ask me, this is one of the few times I'm actually liking something he does :naughty:

Mika being himself….yes and that is why we love his work so much, isn’t it?

One of my favourite parts of him being himself in the video is the little skip he makes :wub2: right before he starts to dance when he’s standing by the monitor!

Another golden part to me is the ending where they leave him in jumping in the air, which to me is one of his trade marks (the high jumping)!:wub2:

Ah come on, we are entitled to our own opinion aren’t we?:naughty:

I know what you mean Nina, but seriously, who could ever compete with the big debaters on this forum, and I’m saying this in most nice and loving way :wub2: if it wasn’t for the word-rich and talkative people I wouldn’t have so much fun and be able learn so much English.

But even I can fell a little powerless sometimes when I say 50 words and get 500 back!

Read back and you’ll see!:wink2:

To me moaning is when people carry on because they are upset with Mika and hold him personally responsible for not getting what they want.

His work is fair game for criticism as far as I'm concerned, whether it's constructive criticism or just people saying "I think that's crap". We're not even talking to Mika. We're talking amongst ourselves.

I am not moaning to Mika about the video because it didn't turn out as well as it could have. This video is an advert to sell his music. If it fails, I'm not the one who will suffer, he will. I just want to see him succeed and he always misses the mark with these videos IMO.

Good concepts and great songs are done a disservice by shoddy production and editing. It's frustrating to watch because he puts so much effort into other things and seems to be such a visual person. I can't understand why these videos always get the short shrift and I thought WAG was the start of a new era because, whether you like the concept or not, it was incredibly well made.

Oh, and also Mika - for an added bonus, we're going to include the bit where you lip-sync the wrong lyrics. That looks extra rough and cool." :teehee:

Yes I'm afraid that's where the theory falls apart. :teehee:

I feel small and stupid admitting that I actually like it a lot :aah:

It's not stupid for people to like this video. Mika is adorable and I think most fans are going to like it on some level. There's just room for improvements in my opinion.

Actually, a good friend of mine commented on how weedy he looks in WAG... and I have to agree! :teehee:

Oooh...what does weedy mean exactly? :teehee:

I get that some people think the dancing was deliberately amateur-ish to convey a certain message... but personally, I just can't buy that explanation.

Instead, it looks to me like they were on a tight timeline, and as a result the dancers didn't have enough time to perfect their routine. The team editing the video were probably under a tight deadline as well - hence the lyric mess up.

And none of this would surprise me; we have a vague idea of Mika's schedule lately just in terms of gig rehearsals and promo appearances, and we'd be totally unaware of other meetings and such. So it's no secret he's been a busy boy lately, and it's not a stretch to think this video was tossed together in something of a hurried fashion.

My opinion is that if these screw-ups were intentional - and I still don't believe they were - it hasn't been conveyed properly because it doesn't give a behind-the-scenes vibe. The screw ups are too subtle to be a deliberate choice in creative interpretation. Instead it simply looks like something that tries to be polished and falls just short of the mark. IMHO, of course.

That said - I still give it a 6.5 out of 10. The imagery is great, and I adore Mika's clothes. :wub2:

PS: Caz, I also totally noticed the girl who moves her foot just a little when they're holding the ribbons and the camera is panning in on Mika at the piano. :freak:

highly agree with everything you said, especially the bit in bold :flowers2:

Slightly offtopic but - am I the ONLY one who wasn't in the least scared/taken aback/shocked to see Meeks in his boxers, and who instead thoroughly enjoyed it? :teehee:

Oh I enjoyed it alright (:das:) it's just at first I couldn't watch it on my computer if there were people around because it felt like I was watching soft porn lol :teehee:

Yeah the first time I saw the video it was playing on my parents widescreen high definition tv, with my parents in the room. I think I probably went a bit red.

Dad: 'That's that fella you like, ain't it Noll?'

Mum: 'I can see why.'

Me: '......:blush-anim-cl:'

AHAHAHAHAAAAA oh dear that's a MAJOR embarrassing moment!! LOL!!

And...like...I usually show my mum Mika videos (she's a fan as well by yours truly) and every now and then she'd be like "You still haven't shown me Mika's video yet" "...oh yeah. Whoops. *does nothing*"......... :aah:

Yes, of course!! :naughty: I said I was feeling small and I was half joking, but actually I have been lately really frustrated because of my English. It's not getting any better, and I hate that!! I use my English more but it means that I just make more mistakes :aah::roftl:

But I agree with you, and I must say that I really enjoy reading people's posts here on MFC :thumb_yello: Such a colorful language and also so many words you can't learn from books :naughty:
