He so can look rugged ... that's what I love about him ... that he can look so cute and adorable one minute and then ... can look like this .... ummmmmmmmmmm ... yeah :swoon:

:lmfao:

No that is not my understanding of the word. Rugged is weathered and rough, like the Marlboro Man. :naughty:

Mika's face is pretty and his fingernails are manicured regardless of weather he shaves and curls his hair.

I don't want to be controversial here, far from it, but when the discussion comes up about N. American radio and what they play/don't play, I always think: don't they play what the listeners want? If most listeners wanted to hear something different, would they not change it?

Nope. I know some people who have called stations to request a song and they've gotten laughed at and rude remarks about the artists and their songs never got played. The songs weren't rated R or anything like that either. :naughty:

I've only heard Mika played a couple time in the stores but it wasn't via radio. It was from a mixed CD. It was a start at least but that has stopped since last year. :aah:

It's a catch-22. No one requests Mika because they've never heard of him and they've never heard of him because he doesn't get any radio play.

He just needs to keep pounding the pavement in the US, doing larger and larger gigs and getting on TV. I think eventually radio may crack but you know sometimes it takes artists many years to break through anywhere, nevermind the US. His virtual overnight success in Europe is the anomaly here, not the slow build in the US.

He deserves every success he gets and he's appearing on good, well viewed shows over there as well, so hopefully people will start FRIKKIN TAKE NOTE!

One reason why I don't want to call in or email any stations. I get teased enough for liking him I don't need someone to be rude to me for no reason when it's their job. Plus I don't feel like arguing over the phone/email because that's lame. :boxed:

I'm hoping after he appears on David Letterman (and I think he's suppose to be on Ellen too, I can't remember) he'll gain some more fans and maybe some stations will look into him. :)

Yeah, I wouldn't call GMA a good show. :roftl:

I think Ellen could be really good and since Letterman is embroiled in a big controversy at the moment that could mean some exposure as well.

I think the best thing that could ever happen to him as far as exposure in the US goes is to get on American Idol. He really should have done Canadian Idol when he had the chance too. It was a lame production but 1 million people watched it and they are exactly his target audience - pop music lovers. And because he was supposed to mentor they would have shown him working with the contestants and people would have really gotten a sense of his personality and talent moreso than you'd ever get with one performance on a late-night talk show.

I will never understand American market! I was shocked when Mika once mentioned that American radiostations don't play his music because, as one of the radio bosses said, they wouldn't play music of a guy who sings he wants to be like Grace Kelly:shocked:

The other story that made headlines and I TOTALLY don't understand WHY was Janet Jackson's nipple... I simply don't get how, on one hand, you have a country which is the biggest porn producer in the world, and on the other doesn't want to play artists like Mika:boxed:

Maybe a good interview with George Stroumboulopoulos while he's in TO? I like him :wub2:

So do I, it's sodding ridiculous. Like, it got to the point where I practically exploded and I had this major fit on Facebook (I ended up having 3 people apologising to me - HA!) but my sister saw it and thought I took it too personally, and then she told MOTHER - WORST person to tell - and then she got all patronising (she doesn't mean to, she does try her best to look out for her kids, but she does make me feel like 5 years old sometimes) and was like "well if you're being picked on maybe you shouldn't talk about him so much." and I was like WTF? IT'S A FOOKIN STATUS UPDATE! If people don't like it they can DELETE me - doesn't make a difference in my life whatsoever if they're on there or not! And then she was like "you don't want to be seen as a horrible person" and again I was like WTF, if people are teasing me, whether it be a joke or not and I DON'T like it, I won't take it lying down! She's the one who told me to ignore all the bullying comments I got at school and I did so and it was the worst choice in the world. I am quite quick to jump on people now if they p*ss me off, and I do probably go OTT, but I'm not gonna let something build up. If someone starts I end it.

She also says "maybe you should keep your Mika stuff on the FanClub" but I was like WHY? I update my status on Facebook so that Mika fans who aren't on the MFC at that specific moment can be updated with news! I do it FOR a reason!

And even at work, I don't even mention him! If he comes up in conversation it's because people talk to ME about him. And it gets on my tits! I can actually hold a conversation without mentioning the dude's name. People throw the words "obsession" and "stalker" around far too easily in my book...I don't hide in his bathroom nor do I camp outside his house. I don't follow him around to see what he buys from the supermarket. Heck, I go to a gig and I naff off home. I'm just supporting my favourite artist and if it makes me happy I'm gonna carry on doing it, regardless what people think. I'm not hurting anyone.

Whew, that was long...sorry...

And now I'm agreeing with you in this thread! :biggrin2:

I better go to bed before I agree with you a third time and end the world :naughty:

Also, ZOMG STALKING YOU! :mf_rosetinted:

:naughty:

"I wanna be, wanna be whatever else that's stalking you!" :mf_rosetinted:

I liked your Facebook fit. Didn't it start when someone called you a stalker? :teehee:

I asked one of my friends recently if this band we like - his favourite band, for like the past five years - is touring soon. And he goes: "how should I know?! I'm not a stalker like you!!!"

And I'm like wow, if simply knowing whether an artist is touring counts as stalking in your world, I've got SO much to teach you. :roftl:

PS: I like your Facebook updates. It's easier to check Facebook on my phone than read MFC. :biggrin2:

Yeah, it was my friend Emily. She only said it as a joke, but it's only funny so many times, right? Well, to be honest, it wasn't even funny to start off with.

And OMG about your friend, AS IF asking someone if a band is touring counts as stalking! WTH! If you like a band a lot you go and see them! That's what tours are there for! Blimey. Could you imagine?

Band on TV: "Yeah, we had to cancel our tour because apparently it encourages stalker-type behaviour. A lot of our fans are in jail right now with restraining orders, and now we're broke."

:boxed:

PS: You're welcome!

OMG, this is exactly what people tell me. I hear all the time that I'm obsessed with "this guy Mika" and that I should keep it on the fanclub. But also that it's not normal to visit MFC more than once a week.

I don't talk about him all the time, I told some people about the new album because I was excited about it, and I told some people about his performances on Jools Holland and the Dutch show because I really loved them. I've only been to one gig. I do have a hard disk with loads of pics and vids, but I tell no one about that. :teehee:

All I can think of is that Mika really is so marmite people just don't understand that you can be a big fan. That you would like to know about all his performances and his interviews.

Because these are the same people who think it's normal to follow their favourite soccer team all around the Netherlands or even Europe, or (like a friend of mine) fly to Italy once a year because you're a fan of Zucchero.

Well exactly, grown adults who are preoccupied with watching men kick around a ball don't have any room to talk. :roftl:

I actually do have some issues around the word "stalker", so I just want to say THANK YOU for allowing me to laugh with you about that. I really needed that particular giggle today :wub2:

Lol, you're welcome!

See! People are so stupid! If I was following someone more "cool" around London people would think I was cool too, but what the hell? I'm experiencing something I find exciting and that not a lot of people get the chance to do. Hell, it beats sitting indoors. And if they would much rather go get drunk every weekend and wake up ill and with a loss of memory then that's their prerogative. I won't judge them for that and wish people didn't judge me for my hobbies as well.

And also, the talk of Mika's sexuality gets me as well. It's like "oh he's so gay" as if they're trying to put me off him, or they assume I must be some deluded crazy psycho fan who is adamant that we're going to get married. No! I'm stupid OR deluded! Whether he's gay, straight, or bi it's not like Mika and I are gonna get together anyway NOR is it my business who he decideds to romp with between the sheets! (or anywhere else). Freddie Mercury and Elton are homosexuals but no-one gives a toss about that! EVERYONE loves "don't stop me now", loads of straight men do and no-one laughs at them for that! Elton John has had a number of huge hits and as far as I'm aware people leave him alone as well. It's like, who cares? He's a MUSICIAN, and I like his music. Mika doesn't know about my private life so why should I know about his?

Well exactly, grown adults who are preoccupied with watching men kick around a ball don't have any room to talk. :roftl:

BRILLIANT.

I don't tend to talk about Mika to anyone (yet, it's getting to that point) but I know I'd get exactly the same response. And Cazgirl, that whole, 'he's so gay' thing is SO ANNOYING! I feel like saying, 'I have two gay friends and a bisexual friend, you gonna comment on their sexuality too? WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?!'

It's also largely coz he's a guy, you know. I get it about Tim Minchin, (my best mate always says, 'Noll, we've been through this, you'd be breaking up a family - he has a wife and kids!' and I'm like, 'did I mention anything beyond his music and ideas?) If it was a woman we were all obsessed with, we'd probably just be accused of wanting to be like her or something. It's so stupid. You don't have to want something on a personal level in ANY WAY to appreciate it artistically, aesthethically, etc etc.

Grr, etc.

Highly agree! About the bit in bold - I'm totally saying that next time lol, I have a gay best friend and he has been since we were both 4!
