I have been commenting about the KA vid on YT, but will go onto other sites listed as well. This thread is a good idea and I like how everything is together in this thread to make it easier for us all.

One thing I have been trying to do, not exactly related to KA, but should help the cause, is to vote for Mika in the most wanted man in pop contest. I know it's only one area, Latin America, but if we could get him up the list people there, and elsewhere, might get curious. The link is in my siggy below, and you can vote about every ten minutes or so. If everyone on the MFC did just one vote, he'd already have nearly 18,000 more, so pass the word to the international threads as well.

The other thing is Radio One! He needs desperately to be played on that station, to have any hope of getting into the charts. He's not on the playlist yet, although he is on Radio 2's playlist.

You could use the link on my siggy to contact Radio One. I agree with this thread's author that they are not going to take kindly to everyone getting onto them about the playlist, but on that same link you can also contact individual DJs to ask fo KA (WAY) to be played on their show. If enough people request the song they'll HAVE TO add it to the playlist and give it some airtime. As the author has said. Don't go on about Mika and how wonderful he is. The fact that you want to hear the song will tell them you love Mika without you needing to say it.

 

agree with what you said about the votings in general... it's good to vote for mika wherever possible, that's why i put a link to the voting thread. wanna concentrate on the KA links in this thread though - hopefully there are gonna be lots more in the next few weeks... :fisch:

 

like i said though, careful with the radio stations, especially with a concentration on radio one. the difficult thing about it for me is, how many requests are normal for them? if we don't send any, they'll think no one's interested in the song. but if we send too many, they'll suspect that it's organized and will feel bothered by all those requests, and ignore the song because of that. y'know, i guess those radio1 DJs also talk with each other, and if each of them receives 50 KA requests per day, they might find that a bit weird... :fisch: that's why i don't wanna say, please everyone mail to radio1. :wink2: it'd just be too much... but if those who listen to radio1 regularly anyway request their fave song there, without spamming them, it surely can't hurt. :bleh:

 

I guess that the most important thing with radio stations is that we should sound like people who randomly came across the song on youtube etc and want to hear it on radio too and not like fans who want to promote it.

We can vote for Kick Ass here. Click on the tiny box above the song titel and then click on Ψήφισε! that it's right under the song titles. We can vote only once each day.

It's a show on a greek music channel. They show the 10 most voted videos every day and Kick Ass has already been in the top10 for quite a few days. Could you add it to the link collection Karin?

I slightly have the impression that Kick-Ass isnt available in Belgium yet because I can't find in on radio/music channels sites.

But if we manage to get this a couple of times in the daily top 5, Mika gets attention, and they might mention his new single.

It's a really detailed post with a lot of information, mellody!. I'm gonna do whatever is possible following the directions you suggest, and never spamming of course :thumb_yello:

 

Just a little tiny detail I would anonymize (s?) all the links, when people click they immediately know where the vote come from, and if you say they don't have to know we come from a fanclub they are likely to ignore us or cancel votes. They don't have to know the referrer is mikafanclub :wink2:

Just by adding: http://anonym.to/? at the beginning of your links they don't know the referrer

Something like: http://anonym.to/?http://tweeter.faxo.com/Top_YouTube_Video/2010/04 for example :thumb_yello:

 

Or copying link location, open a new tab and paste link, but we are lazy, we tend to just click.

Ok Mika Fans... Kick Ass doesn't get the reception yet that it deserves, so it's time for us to kick some asses to make that happen! 45.gif Carefully though, as spamming won't get us anywhere. :wink2: We are strong, because there are so many of us... we can cause an explosion if we all help together, like getting Mika in the Twitter Trending Topics, which we also plan for May 3rd... but more important than that is to keep up a constant demand for Kick Ass in the media. And to build a solid base where it can kick off from when the single is released on May 2nd. We don't have to (and can't) make people like it, but we have to make sure that people know and talk about it. Without annoying them by spamming.

 

~Why?~

Mika personally asked us for help to make this song popular. And we all want him to do well. So we need to try all we can to get him back on the radio and in the charts. And this song really makes it easy for us, as it's catchy, commercial, it has a successful producer behind it, and it's the title track for a movie. That means, there's many ways to approach the promotion for it, without focusing on the fact that we're Mika Fans who want to support him. Unfortunately, this argument doesn't count in the outside-of-MFC-world, so we need others. :fisch:

 

What I want with this thread is

a) motivate everyone to do a little bit of promotion for KA, constantly over the next few weeks (as opposed to spamming, or to doing nothing at all)

b) collect links and ideas of what can be done, and

c) organize it better, give it all a bit of a structure.

 

~How?~

Twitter event and Kick Ass Flash Mob, see links (2nd post)

 

For those who are active in other Mika forums than the MFC (French, Italian, Mexican, Brazilian,...), please spread the word about this (including the no-spam-warnings :bleh:), maybe open a thread on there similar to this one? :wink2:

 

Step One, this is what everyone can do, without any danger of spamming - do as much of that as you want/can! :bleh:

- Buy the single when it comes out on May 2nd

- Buy the whole soundtrack

- Watch the movie at the cinema.

Of course the single is the most important thing, but it also helps if the movie and the soundtrack are doing really well!

- Watch the (Mika) Kick Ass Youtube Videos (and vote that you like them), so they will get more popular and come up early in the list if someone searches for Kick Ass on youtube.

- Vote for Kick Ass wherever it is possible - links see 2nd post

 

Step Two: Tell them, but don't spam them:

- tell all your friends, relatives, colleagues,... about the song and the movie.

- post about it in other forums where you are registered, and/or put it in your signature/avatar. Only if it's allowed there of course, like, if there's a section for (other) music.

- post about it to your friends/followers on facebook, twitter, myspace,... not too often though. ;-)

- write reviews about the song, the movie (if you've seen it) and the soundtrack on amazon, hmv and other websites that offer a review function.

- if there's any online article / news announcement about Kick Ass, write a comment if the site offers that function. Especially if it's a popular website.

- post comments on youtube videos that are related to Kick Ass (especially Mika's music videos).

- any more suggestions? Please let me know, so I can add them to the list.

 

Step Three: MFC goes guerilla - the radio stations

We have to be careful with this, because, if a radio station starts suspecting that the requests are organized by a fan club, they will probably ignore them. You can always contact your local radio station of course, and request the song there, or ask for it on request shows (that's what they're there for... :fisch:). But I wouldn't send more than one request per person per week per radio station. 20-50 mails (OR tweets, FB comments, etc.) per week to a radio station, all by different people, make a lot more sense than 50 in one hour, by only 10 people. :wink2: I have a plan for this in my mind, but will come up with that later, first see what feedback this thread gets in general. :wink2:

 

~Anti-Spam-Provisions~

Please mind the following points when requesting/promoting Kick Ass anywhere, especially if you contact someone who is not among your friends/followers:

- In many cases, less is more. Writing to someone about Kick Ass multiple times a day is definitely too much. More like once or twice per week.

- Take into account what other Mika Fans do. To get Mika in the Twitter TT, we all have to act at once ... but if 50 or more fans at once tweet to a radio station, it's too much.

- Don't just copy what other people wrote (e.g. by Re-Tweeting), but write something in your own words.

- If you're using hashtags on twitter (like #mikakicksass), don't include more than one per tweet, it doesn't help and Twitter recognizes it as spam.

- We're all proud to be Mika fans, but in some cases it may be better to hide this fact. ;-p Like, on Twitter, with those twibbons it's easy to recognize that we all belong to the same group... :fisch:

Just came home from watching Kick Ass!!

Here is my review:

I thought it had a cool story line buut was very violent and i'm into that stuff really. But for the people who like torture and fighting you would love itttt!!! lol

Yeah but i'm not saying i didn't like it i'm just a bit of a wimp lol when it came to all the hurting people and stuff

Awwwww and Mika's song sounded soooo gooood on big speakers at the end!!! Seriously i love this song and am deffinately buying it when it's out!!!
