I really loved the Mika's performance at the Festival di Sanremo!! The monologue, the medley (with the new version of Boum Boum Boum) and the cover of Jesus To A Child got me so emotional!! ❤ I think Mika is a perfect showman and Carlo Conti and Maria De Filippi were useless!! La scena: interno casa. Sono al computer, attaccata da tre giorni con le mani sulla tastiera del pc e gli occhi fissi, puntati sul monitor… e il televisore a 44′ sulla mia destra che manda suoni e immagini, senza soluzioni di continuità, del festival e di tutto quello che ruota attorno. Arriva Mika sul palco, giro lo sguardo, sorrido… lui è uno che mi piace, un artista che ha da dire tante cose, una persona intelligente. Ma mi distraggo velocemente. Il lavoro mi chiama.Continuo a scrivere, scrivere, scrivere… fino a quando, mentre ero sovrappensiero, dalla televisione arriva qualcosa che mi blocca letteralmente, una musica che mi strappa l’anima dalla pelle… una sezione archi che mi rapisce letteralmente. Mi fermo all’istante… smetto di fare ogni cosa e vedo sul palco la “luce” di cui sopra, vedo Mika che suda emozionato, vedo i maestri d’orchestra che fanno volare nell’immensità di una emozione ogni nota, vedo il Maestro Valeriano Chiaravalle che muove la sua “bacchetta magica” con candore e passione… e ascolto la poesia di un angelo. “La gentilezza è nei tuoi occhi, credo che mi hai sentito piangereMi hai sorriso come Gesù ad un bambino Sono beato, lo so, il paradiso manda benedizioni ma può anche riprenderseleMi hai sorriso come Gesù ad un bambino …” Era Mika che cantava “Jesus to a child” per ricordare, omaggiare, un suo eroe, un “Eroe della Musica”, come lo ha definito lo stesso Mika… e parlo ovviamente di un grandissimo della musica contemporanea che ci ha lasciati troppo presto, George Michael. Mi sono tornati in mente, in quel momento, tutti quei Sanremo di quando ero ragazzina, mentre speravo di veder salire sul palco dell’Ariston, almeno una volta, George.Ma lui al festival non c’è mai stato… e ora non ci andrà mai più davvero, e il desiderio resterà un sogno irrealizzato. Ma anche se non era con il corpo, lui, il buon George e il suo alone carismatico, ieri sera era li, sul palco dell’ Ariston. Era attorno a Mika, era tra la bacchetta del Maestro Chiaravalle, era tra gli sgabelli dei musicisti, era avvolto attorno gli archetti dei violini, violoncelli e tutta la sezione archi… era li e lo si sentiva anche attraverso il monitor di un televisore. Oggi riascoltavo la performance e ho sentito l’esigenza di “parlare” con chi ha permesso – oltre a Mika – di vivere e provare certe emozioni attraverso quanto ascoltato ieri. Mi sono allora messa in contatto con il grandissimo musicista e artista che ha riarrangiato splendidamente (e diretto anche), “Jesus to a child“, il Maestro Valeriano Chiaravalle, lo stesso che ha firmato l’arrangiamento stupendo del brano di Tenco, “Mi sono Innamorato di te” cantato da Tiziano Ferro, la prima sera del Festival. Questa la mia chiacchierata con il Maestro Chiaravalle. Ciao Valeriano. Ma hai arrangiato tu la versione orchestrale di “Jesus to a child”, di George Michael, cantata da Mika ieri sera a Sanremo? Si io. Arrangiata orchestrata e diretta da me… perché? Mi hai fatta piangere ieri sera, sappilo. Grazie! Leggere queste cose danno un senso al mio lavoro. Ti dico solo una cosa. Se George Michael fosse ancora vivo e avesse sentito questo arrangiamento… credo avrebbe pianto dall’emozione anche lui. BRAVISSIMO… stima profonda per te. Quando scrivo lo faccio mettendoci la mia sensibilità, piaccia o non piaccia. Ogni arrangiamento per me è come un figlio e leggere apprezzamenti per loro mi da una gioia che non puoi immaginare. Grazie ancora. Ma come ti sei approcciato, umanamente, emotivamente e artisticamente verso questo brano? Mika mi aveva trasmesso il desiderio di rendere questo momento unico, magico, quasi una preghiera. Quando ho iniziato a scriverlo ho pensato che eravamo di fronte ad un capolavoro cantato impeccabilmente da George Michael. Conoscendo la capacità di Mika nel rendere unica ogni interpretazione ho intrapreso una lettura del pezzo quasi come se volessi raccontare musicalmente quello che il testo raccontava, quasi come se stessi lavorando ad una colonna sonora a supporto di un meraviglioso racconto. Mika non voleva nulla di ritmico… voleva che tutto fosse incentrato sull’emozione che la melodia e il testo trasmettono. Lo sai vero che tutto l’arrangiamento era bellissimo?! … ma la sezione archi è stata qualcosa di straordinario. Nello specifico, cosa puoi dirmi del lavoro fatto sugli archi? Ho atteso semplicemente il giorno giusto per scriverlo. Ero impegnato già nella scrittura del brano di Tenco cantato da Tiziano Ferro nella prima serata e sentivo la necessità di dedicare, come ho fatto con Tiziano, un giorno solo per questo brano. Mi sono messo al pianoforte e l’ho suonato spontaneamente pensando solo alla melodia. La melodia è talmente toccante che scrivere su di essa è stato velocissimo. In una giornata il pezzo era finito. Ho mandato a Mika un mockup veloce per verificare che gli piacesse… mi ha risposto subito entusiasta. Mika è un grande artista che tira fuori il meglio da tutto il suo team. È l’Artista per cui ogni arrangiatore sognerebbe di lavorare… conosce benissimo la musica, le problematiche tecniche di ogni performance ed è una delle persone più belle che conosco. È un’anima bella. Durante le prove, la prima volta che avete provato all’unisono, tutti insieme i maestri d’orchestra, il lavoro da te realizzato… insomma, la prima volta che hai ascoltato il pezzo da te arrangiato con tutti gli elementi dell’orchestra che suonavano, cosa hai provato? Mika come ha reagito?Raccontami qualche aneddoto delle prove. Ogni volta che scrivo un brano per orchestra, partendo dal nulla, è una sensazione simile a quando aspetti la nascita di tuo figlio e poi, finalmente, lo conosci. Ti assomiglia, la prima volta lo osservi cercando difetti o pregi, ma è tuo figlio… ogni prova è come vederlo crescere. A un certo punto va in scena, è pronto, è diventato grande… lui va, lo ascolti e speri che gli altri gli vogliano bene e lo rispettino. Mika è innamorato di questa versione… lui è un entusiasta. Altrimenti non l’avrebbe mai fatta. Prima di salutarci, visto che questo è il magazine online di Alberto Salerno e Mara Maionchi, così, tanto per scherzare… se dovessi scegliere una canzone scritta dal Maestro Salerno, che canzone ti piacerebbe arrangiare in versione orchestrale? Alberto e Mara erano amici di mio padre, sono affezionato a loro perché rappresentano per me la dedizione a questo lavoro, due persone vere. Ho tanti ricordi di un’estate insieme a casa di un’amica comune. Poiché questo ricordo mi porta al pensiero mio padre, mi farebbe piacere riarrangiare un capolavoro assoluto del grande papà di Alberto, Nisa: “La musica è finita“. Mio papà mi ha fatto crescere esaltando la grandezza delle sue canzoni e da figlio di autore sono sicuro che Alberto apprezzerà. Grazie di cuore Valeriano. I wanted to listen to his performance again, this time carefully (I was nervous for him when he did it at San Remo) but it's really too sad. It's difficult for me to get over sad things, sometimes when I see a sad film or read a sad book it stays in my thoughts even weeks and just reading the lyrics of this song is almost too much. I went through a lot of San Remo interviews, articles and tweets (a huge, huge thank to Eriko for making everything so easily available!!! ) and I can't believe how massive publicity there has been around this one performance! I can't make out the word on his shoulder, but on the lower part of the front of the jacket it looks like it says "Beauty Is A..." and then I can't see the last word. And I never got a good look at the words on his back... Even the still photos haven't helped much. Anyone? EDIT: OK, after looking some more I'm pretty sure it's "BEAUTY IS A BIRTHRIGHT" on the lower front of the coat. But I still can't figure out the other words. Also this is not one of my favorites G M's songs. But I really liked this performance. I think the musical arrangement with the orchestra was beautiful,and even if he seemed so nervous and overwhelmed ( ),he really did his best to express the intensity of the moment,and he was obviously thrilled by this opportunity. I agree with Nina, that people pay a lot of attention to his speech and words. The Italiens really have noticed that it's not all about his amazing music and performances, but also about his great personality. We, his hardcore fans, have known for 10 years now that he's a very wise man, with a big and warm hearth But now more and more citizens of the world notice this, thanks to all the interviews in newspapers, mags, radio and TV - and Italy seems to be the leading country to broadcast it! Even I only understand some words in between, it's easy to see that he's given a huge attention, and I think MIKA uses his opportunities well Now I do hope that he'll be even tougher, in the upcoming new Casa Mika shows. People listen to MIKA - his opinion counts, it's impossible not to notice his knownledge, wisdom and kindness So my hope now is that he will invite and get also some "mighty quests" in his shows - people who have the power to change things which are not good and fair in our society.
