Ooh thanks for posting those videos, I hadn't seen any of these interviews yet even if virtual Adam-stalking is my favourite way of procrastinating lately. The women who splits her trousers is hilarious lol and that one with Justin Bieber is funny too (I hate Justin Bieber but I must admit he is kind of funny here)

Neither can I! But -- and I had this conversation with Freddie yesterday -- the

thing that amazes me is that Adam can get radio play here in the US. His latest

single, Whataya Want from Me, peaked at number 10 or 11 on Billboard a

few weeks ago, and is still in fairly heavy rotation on the top 40 stations.

 

What's he got that Mika doesn't? He's far more "glam" or "camp" so I don't

get it.

 

In any case, I really do think he's amazing -- he's coming to DC later this

summer, same venue Mika played 3 years ago, and I might go to see him

if we're in town then...

Only just downloaded the 4 "bonus tracks" or however you might call them which are on the German/Dutch/... version of FYE. Hadn't known about them until Bubbles told me (I'm a bad fan *doh*)

 

@Babz: I really do like "Music again", too. It's one of the songs I always listen to twice.

 

But I also love"Aftermath" - such a shame it's the only song from his collaboration with Ferras that made it on the album. Would have loved to see more of the two of them (musically speaking that is )

I agree! I think Mika really needs a primetime appearance over here, if people would see/hear him, they'd fall quick.

yes, he has an amazing voice. I am not surprised at all at his success in the US.

 

1., no new artist can ever have nearly as much exposure reality tv show stars get. American Idol was a perfect platform to launch his career.

 

2., He also played the game the right way. He did not even try to hide he was gay, he emphasized it. He has had a very strong, trendy and ambiguous image since the beginning and it worked for him as you cannot 'ban' or neglect a well-known artist from the airwaves no matter how much you (or part of your listeners) oppose what he stands for. He is wanted like a piece of candy. New artists (especially from abroad) stand little chance to be given the same amount of airplay without their names being already well-known in an average US household.

 

3., His songs are much more to the taste of an average listener than Mika's songs. In other words, these tunes sit well with the current trends. He is now basically the male P!nk in terms of his image and music.

 

..and it is actually this last bit I don't really appreciate that much. It would be great if he used his voice also for some more demanding and sophisticated stuff, whether that be musical theatre or rock music. He obviously can't write songs, so I don't blame him for not trying to be too different from the rest. Besides, he obviously needs to be successful first to do anything else as the second step. I hope that with time he will explore other territories, too. He can't do everything all at once, anyway.

And to be honest I don't think he sounds 'average' at all, I do see what you mean but honestly there aren't a lot of male singers doing what he does, especially not with a voice like his!

well, I meant writing songs on his own and not adding words..etc. Avril Lavigne is a also a songwriter then.. ().

 

He is an amazing singer. I meant only the 'songs' as average, not him but I understand I must have sounded a bit diminishing. I didn't mean that at all. What I meant is that his voice has such good quality that I'd expect him to challenge himself further in the future and sing songs where he can show his full range (like Mika does, actually) and also show what a great performer he is. He can only do it if he has those songs to sing. Fever fits him perfectly and it fits Lady Gaga, too.

 

He is a talented young singer and I don't realistically expect him to already show signs of becoming the next George Michael, I just stated what type of music I'd like to hear from him next. If I didn't like him, I wouldn't care.

AGREE! (well, except the music theatre bit... it's good to listen to him being theatrical in pop/rock music, but please dun do a real piece of theatre music. at least i ain't that interested! )
