Hello from London!!!!

hello!!! i havent used a forum site in YEARS so forgive me if i dont know how this all works haha

so to start with: like, im assuming, a lot of people here, i knew of mika first from my childhood. grace kelly was my favourite song, however... i was a child, my music taste was limited to what was on my pop party cd and the radio, so i didnt listen to the full life in cartoon motion album back then; but my love for grace kelly alone was enough to cement him as an important part of my primary school memories.

fast forward to 2015, and honestly i cannot for the life of me remember how, but i ended up on a mika marathon. grace kelly was the only song i actively remembered by him, but watching the other music videos from the first album made me realise not only did i KNOW all the promoted songs, i liked them too. LiCM is the limit of what is attached to my childhood memories; i dont remember the boy who knew too much having as good of a reception in the uk, at least not to the extent that a 10 year old would have heard. however, in this binge in 2015, i watched the music videos of the promoted songs from that album too, as well as from the origin of love (which my 16 year old self didnt get into, yet i love it now...). at this time, very conveniently, the videos from no place in heaven were being released- i think this mustve been when the music video for talk about you came out, because i remember watching that when it was very new. as he released more and more singles from the no place in heaven album, i kept up with them. i remember sitting in a gcse science lesson where we were supposed to be studying for our upcoming exams and watching last party on repeat, that song still reminds me of my gcses haha. after this, i kept up with him- if i remember right there were a few french releases and the single its my house, and i had followed him on instagram, but he was musically very quiet, so he wasnt at the forefront of my attention. he stayed as one of my favourite artists, but my passion was only fully opened up when he started releasing singles from my name is michael holbrook. at the point ice cream was released, i was getting back into that kind of falsetto driven, upbeat music- the mv reminded me that mika was the perfect artist for that. after the music video for tomorrow was released i became absolutely obsessed, and decided to listen to all of his albums fully from start to finish, finding many hidden favourites on the way.

besides my other favourite artist, i never really listened to full albums before, let alone full discographies- yet mika became the second artist i knew the (almost) full discography of without even trying or noticing over the span of 5 years. i dont know how to explain it, but this fact alone solidifies his place to me emotionally, so i decided to join this forum to find a sense of community (twitter, my usual platform, either seemed very dry for this purpose, or it was in french/italian- which while are lovely languages, i do not speak).

i look forward to being here!!!!

Oh my this is bringing back memories of the hours spent in my art class, I used to listen to We Are Golden on repeat trying my best to keep the volume down so the teacher wouldn't hear it! 😂
