Moi, Andy et Paris - lyrics and song discussions

Recommended Posts

"Dire qu'on s'est dit "oui" Moi, Andy et Paris."  -  "Say that we said "yes" to each other, me, Andy and Paris"

I think this part is a witty reference to what he said about Paris becoming like a third person in their relationship and living in a love triangle as if they all three said "Yes" to each other - him, Andy and Paris.

Then Andy became jealous on Paris and left to Greece  "Dire que c'est fini, moi, Andy et Paris"

The entire song, Paris is pictured like having a human identity playing a role in this love affair, this is how I see it :original:

This one kills me. It’s so typically “social media”: keeping up appearances.

He once said in an interview that he hates what is being portrayed on social media. For him to include a lyric like that makes it so profoundly sad.

Hm, but it's not new, he already sang "smile like you mean it" on his first album. I don't see it as a reference to social media in particular, but rather to life as a celebrity. It surely is hard to live a relationship in public, with all eyes on you. That's just the media and the publicity in general - although social media puts all this under a magnifying glass, so ofc it doesn't make it easier. Imagine the reactions if he had talked about this in public when it happened. Even now he feels the need to clarify that everything's ok now. And also it seems it's very subjective, Mika felt rejected but Andy might not have seen it like that at all. Standard miscommunication in relationships, might help to talk about it with your partner, but well, as Mika says, he was so caught up in that emotion that he couldn't talk about it. And also Andy was far away in Greece.

You know how Mika likes to address very personal things in interviews, he said at some point that that's his therapy... but when other people are involved, like Andy in this case, it becomes a lot more complicated and you have to keep things to yourself that maybe you really would love to talk about with someone, to get some input to help you with your emotions. Well, Mika talked about it in a song, as he does. And it might explain why he called Andy a "b*stard" in some interviews, lol! 😅

Random thought: what if Paris is a synonym for his celebrity life?

Although I'm sure his celebrity life plays a role and might be reason for heated discussions between them, I don't think that's what he means with "Paris". As he says, it's the cultural differences between them, and the special connection Mika has to France. Like it's a 3rd person in the relationship. His celebrity status, and/or music in general, might equal a 4th person, so that certainly doesn't make it easier. 😅

Please excuse my French
J'crois bien qu'c'est fini
On sourit mais on est tristes
Comme une photo de touriste
Please excuse my French
Dire qu'on s'est dit oui
Moi, Andy et Paris
Je dois m'en aller loin d'ici.

🇬🇧What is he going to do with Greek people?
Is there a guy there?
We smile but we are as sad as a tourist photo
Please excuse my French
Can't believe we said yes
Me, Andy and Paris
I've got to get far away from here.

@Kumazzz

And we know as well the beginnig of the song:

Ca commence la dispute

les mots durs les mots bruts

bouchez-vous les oreilles

car le monstre se reveille

Il me parle d'Athene

et de tout ce qu'il aime

mais soyons realiste

je n'suis plus dans la liste

...

Please excuse my French
J'crois bien qu'c'est fini
On sourit mais on est tristes
Comme une photo de touriste
Please excuse my French
Dire qu'on s'est dit oui
Moi, Andy et Paris
Je dois m'en aller loin d'ici.

Mika posted again on TikTok. This time in two parts

Wait, we shouldn't post here only the link to his TikTok or the link to the post from Social Media News thread?

It's only the links, but they embed the video, like with youtube. I was surprised that the forum did that when I posted the links on the social media thread. It hasn't been working for a while (or maybe it's because I posted them from the notebook instead of the phone?)

That's weird, I remember in the past we could post only the TikTok link and when click on it, it would open a separate page on TikTok. So in this case it would be better to share here the link from the SM news thread?

I think Paris could represent a culture which Andy does not feel he belongs to, for me for his roots but also because Paris Is associated in Mika' s life not only to music but also to 'mundane' events wich i think are a kind of things that Andy does not like so much. For example from his Instagram profile he seems to be more at ease in rural places (Tuscany, Epirus). So maybe Paris could be a reason of argument between them when Mika spends much time in Paris and they are afar or maybe because even if Andy sometimes Is in Paris with him he can' t stay there for much time because maybe It Is not his Natural habitat. That' s what Paris represents in the Song for me, something that belongs so.much to Mika and not to andy

I saw today that when I copy/paste the link from my phone, it doesn't embed it, but at the PC it does. It's ok to post those links, embedded or not, as it doesn't upload anything on the forum. But if a link is automatically embedded, you also have the option right after pasting it, to show it as link instead, it's a little message at the bottom of the text field that you have to click to use the link instead of the embedded content. It disappears after a few seconds.

Not long ago Mika said he was trying to learn  Greek. I wonder if that has something to do with this song. 😊

I've been wondering the same... maybe they found a solution to this, by Mika learning Greek and Andy learning French? At least it's nice to think that they might have talked about it and found this solution to make them both feel better and closer to each other.

I would like to add that this way of conflict resolving may sound romantic (to run away to different countries, to then write a song about it), but is in my opinion not the healthiest way to do it :biggrin2:

Yeah, but also not the unhealthiest way. Of course it'd be ideal if we all had a good connection to our emotions and knew how to put them into words, and we'd address it in a reflected way to our partners or whomever it concerns... but I think the reality of it is that while you're in the midst of an emotion you just can't be reflected about it. And then it's better to write a song than, idk, numb the emotions with alcohol or other substances, or throw the full force of your negative emotions at your partner.

That's a good solution, I do that every time I insert the link of thread on my post, to avoid cluttering. But you have to move fast indeed, otherwise the option disappears :aah:

Lyrics

Ça commence la dispute
Les mots durs les mots bruts
Bouchez vous les oreilles
Car le monstre se réveille
Il me parle d'Athenes
Please excuse my french
J'crois bien qu' c'est fini
On sourit mais on est tristes
Comme des photos de touriste

Please excuse my french
J'crois bien qu' c'est fini
On sourit mais on est tristes
Comme une photo de touriste

When Mika was quoiting first verses in his interviews I thought he would put his story in a "funny" way. I mean in the way that at the end he sais - we are ok now, c'est la vie.

But actually it was the first song on the album which made me cry. Really really cry. Mika sounds so sad and there is no happy ending in the lyrics. SO beautiful song full of love and doubts...

Have you noticed that on Mika's YouTube channel this song has at least four times as many views (60,000+)  as the second most watched video of the new album (Je sais que je t'aime 14,000+ ; not counting Live Session Bougez, which is at 32,000+)?

My translation:

ME, ANDY AND PARIS

The row is starting
The harsh words, the tough/raw words
Block your ears
Because the monster is waking up
He tells me about Athens
And about everything he likes/loves
 But let's be realistic
I'm not longer in that list
What is he going to do
in Greece?
Is there a guy out there?
Please excuse my French

I do believe it's over
We smile but we are sad
Like a tourist photo
 Please excuse my french
Can't believe we had said yes to each other/one another
Me, Andy and Paris

I must leave far away from here
Me, Andy andParis

I think he is jealous
of this movie of you
I will be back and visit
I will be back later
If words are nothing
Why does it hurt so much?
Why so many problems?
To still get hurt anyway

I must leave far away from here
Me, Andy andParis

As far as me I love you
but he doesn't
Me, Andy...
