  1. I guess this means he has something else planned instead the XF, not necessarily only music. So curious to know what it is. I'm glad about these news, always so much tension around XF.
  2. I wrote a gig/event report about Bourges and it's here: https://mikagigs.com/2016/04/15/gig-reports-mika-le-printemps-de-bourges-france/ It was too long so tried to edit this morning and managed to make it a bit shorter and hopefully more easy to read.
  3. Thank you Melyssa, I was so looking forward to this and to be able to live it again! Such good energy that night
  4. I think many people traveled today so they will be back with reports as soon as back home and rested. I put a few photos here: https://mikagigs.com/2016/04/13/quick-updates-mika-printems-de-bourges-france/
  5. I really enjoyed this festival! Well not actually the festival itself, it was quite hard, messy etc but Mika was fantastic. He sounded good and did an energetic, relaxed performance Very much worth traveling (even I had my mobile stolen just an hour ago ) And he stopped his car and was really sweet to a fan next to me and I was just thinking what a good pop star and then he casually mentioned something I gave him months ago (wasn't even sure if he got it) and explained how he had used it for his dinner table and first I was and then and could only say "awwwww" but I guess it was okay. Now on my way home but will post about this festival later with pics etc. Thanks everyone I met, was so lovely to see you all and looking forward to Melissa's detailed report (I was next to her during the gig)!
  6. He actually pointed out they are friends. In one of these interviews. Maybe he was referring to (while saying he doesn't want to go too close) them as a band or simply their music and not them as persons? Or maybe he just had to say "something"
  7. Oh, could it be? This early?? I've always loved grey hair I'm so envious to people who are getting grey beautifully, my natural hair color is ugly from beginning and doesn't seem to get any better with age...
  8. I really enjoy this concept and listening the playlist and Mika talking about music. Of course I enjoyed his covers too but he is good at this in general. Even my family loved the playlist. I kind of forced them to listen, we were driving and there was no way I would have missed this (so I didn't give them any option) but after a while they admitted that I was right and that he plays good music This is exactly the kind of music we listen together because we all have very different taste but everyone loves classics.
  9. I love this video Thank for posting, it didn't work for me on the original site
  10. It really is impossible to please everyone and he knows it now, all that he can do is to to focus on doing what he likes and wants Thanks for reminding us about the speech he did in Montreal, he was really sweet And I loved the cake! So beautiful.
  11. I live so far away that no one really expects me to be anywhere but I would be happy to feel welcome to TV recordings etc wherever they are. I can't see how that could be a bad thing? Usually the problem is getting tickets.
  12. I know what you mean. I don't feel any expectations myself, it's just me who likes doing this, but this is what I was referring to when I said he can't know what it means to travel around because his life is so different. How could he know. I wouldn't do things I can't afford etc but I need to make a lot of effort to keep things in balance. We don't have grandparents who live near and could help so my husband is the one who takes care of the kids when I travel (and he has a demanding job with a lot of traveling and schedules fixed long in advance). My kids and husband are on the top of my priority list (and even they have to be very patient with me) but Mika comes after them. I would be lying if I said something else. During the past 8 years I've spent more time at his gigs than I've spent with my parents. And I don't even count the traveling time, just the time I've spent at gigs/festivals. That's how it is. But as I said, it's a personal decision. I don't feel any outside expectations or pressure to anything.
  13. I don't actually feel any expectations. No one is asking me to do what I do. I do this because I love his music and traveling. I buy a concert ticket and get a concert. It's always been worth the money and time (even I don't think he can understand the effort we make because his life is so different). If I some day feel it's not worth it I will do less gigs or have some break or simply start doing something else. I don't feel any pressure to like everything he does either. Some songs are not originally my taste but I've seen so many gigs already that I know I will like even those songs when I hear them live (he does so many changes for live versions). For example I didn't like Ordinary Man until I heard a couple of fantastic live versions. Of course I always hope he wants to see his fans but it is what it is. I always think he is really nice just waving from his car if he doesn't want to meet people. Why make things more difficult or complicated than they are.
  14. I have had some similar thoughts you wrote in your post, Karin. He is communicating/interacting with his fans much less than he used to a few years ago but maybe he never enjoyed it in that extension, maybe it was simply too much and now he has given himself a permission to do it on his own terms. Of course it's also more difficult now because there's often a big crowd waiting for him and people mob him but sometimes it looks he prefers it that way and that he actually likes it that it gives him a reason to leave quickly. I can understand his feelings towards pressure and people demanding him to do things in certain way. I often feel need to defend him in discussions because I don't like pressure and demanding myself (and not because I think he needs anyone to defend himself). I can't stand people telling me what to do and sometimes I do the opposite even it it's not even rational just to get the feeling I'm making my own decisions. Maybe that's why I've always loved most the Mika who does whatever he likes even it sometimes means he is not doing what I wanted. Not sure if this makes any sense? He gets a lot of gifts indeed. People often give him gifts simply to have some contact with him. He doesn't look at people when he signs albums etc, not like he used to do. But he is so polite that he often looks at people who manage to give him a gift. And I guess fans like to surprise him during gigs for the same reason (for interaction) and just to make him happy and to see a positive reaction on his face. His life is so different than ours To be honest I don't think he has any idea what it means to see a lot of gigs around the world. He probably just thinks that people magically appear wherever he goes Last time I saw him I told him that I have a life (as an explanation to something) and he said "I know, I know" but I don't think he has ever even thought that his fans have lives (and what kind of effort it is to travel around both money and time wise).
  15. Another great interview from Asia! I really love these. Not just because they are in English but also because they are all so long and the interviewers let him talk without too many interruptions. So rare! I love it when he is witty like this, lol! And love it how he describes his Chinese fans and totally agree with him.
  16. My first thought as well! What was he doing there? Any ideas?
  17. Well let's just say that I focus on that loving part, lol! Loving is easy. But I can't keep up with everything, I don't have enough time (or interest if it's about random people like Ben Stiller). There are many good interviews with Mika now, I find them so much more interesting. And I can't keep anything - even if it's Mika related - in my head so I'm really thankful for everyone who keeps archives and details organized
  18. This was wonderful news I saw the interview this morning and it really made my day. Thanks for posting, Eriko!
  19. I'm sure I often miss foreign references. And sometimes I get the reference but translation is bad or even totally wrong and it's really annoying. I guess with average television series it's about time and money to do a good translation. Good quality films have better translations. I don't actually watch Finnish television at all myself but I watch a lot of films (at movie theaters) and also DVDs.
  20. Thanks for your explanation. I believe you are right even I still wonder why people don't want to find larger/different selection from other than English speaking countries. I understand it's more work but sometimes it would give a different point of view. How typical it is in Canada (or other English speaking countries) to watch foreign films? You mentioned earlier Amelie but how about other French, Spanish or maybe even Nordic films? I'm asking because this is something I often wonder. In Finland it's really normal to watch also other than American/British films. They are always subtitled and even small kids (as soon as they can read) are used to read subtitles. And I know that in many European countries (Italy, German etc) even English is sometimes dubbed in other languages which is simply impossible to understand or get used to coming from a Nordic country. Here only children's movies (for kids under school age and mostly animations) are dubbed and it's done using real actors. American films are of course most popular but it's still quite usual to see other films on television as well.
  21. Actually the edited part in my last post was simply to express my frustration to myself. I really tried to write a clear point but managed to make some huge spelling errors that kind of ruined the whole impression. I think people understood what I wanted to say but it was still annoying, it always is. I think you and Yang already had an understanding in your earlier language discussion and my comment wasn't meant to be a part of that at all.
  22. I understand that the UK (or other English speaking) audience doesn't find French songs generally appealing and the reasons behind it, I've learnt about it during some previous MFC discussions. French music is simply not a part of the UK music culture or taste. What I find harder to understand and where I pay attention as a foreigner (coming from a not English speaking country) is the unconditional tone. It has not been a part of the music culture so far so it can't ever be that. Why not some day in the future? Why not give it a chance? Mika learnt to love France when growing up and it's now a big part of his life. Maybe he hoped he could introduce that side of himself to the UK audience in small amounts (making one French song more familiar to people) and feels now hurt because he doesn't seem to get a chance to do it I'm not asking any of these questions to argue, just genuinely trying to understand. Edit: Corrected some spelling errors. How useful it is to say anything if you make such bad spelling errors no one can take it seriously. So sorry about my English! Oh well.
  23. Thanks for reminding of this, so true! And there's no need to apologize anything! Everyone is welcome to post and many fans are your age. I hope you will have your possibility to see a Mika show! It's good to remember that no matter how he felt before or during the Adelphi show and especially after the response to BBB he still did a great show. He is a professional and experienced stage performer already and now also used to regular live television show pressure. I can still well remember how nervous he used to look in the beginning of some important London shows and now there was no sign of it in Adelphi. Hundreds of fans (at least more than ever before this) had come to this particular gig and the place was full of love (like he finally realized when he saw the flags). There's no reason why Palladium wouldn't be a fantastic event as well I like the bolded definition This is a great first post indeed, thanks for sharing it! I share your views and enjoy French songs as well. Your English is excellent in my eyes, don't worry about it at all.
