  1. This sounds familiar Thank you @camille*for your hard work to translate the interview!! I only got 50% of what he said, so I’m very grateful for this translated transcript ❤️
  2. But what if it is not about the world (and we just interpreted wayyyy too much into it), but just about him and his perspective? The Riffx interview actually confirms it. I personally don’t see anything wrong with it. I mean, he’s right, we should take it with more lightness, whatever we are facing.
  3. Look at us trying to interpret the depth of psychology and symbolism for this song. And it’s really just and only about making love
  4. I actually think he IS acknowledging the times. It doesn’t matter what label you put on it (just like he doesn’t define the sex nor the sexuality of the protagonists). Also I think he is very aware of the political situation and is therefore answering in the way he knows best. A way which will rather provoke empathy than divide or polarization: he makes a statement with his art. Exactly, this is what I think too. We all have our own apocalypses. Some are global, some are very personal.
  5. I wonder, is it not addressed? I personally think, seeing the lyrics. Apocalypse could refer to an awaiting disaster, or the buildup of complete euphoria. He leaves it open and we can choose ourselves which one it is. Either way, it’s a big big bang! And I think there will be a song that will suggest that. And if it won’t: he will do so in the upcoming tour. Just to leave it like that is incredibly dissatisfying. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if he would leave us hanging with the answer and figure out for ourselves what we think is the Apocalypse.
  6. I’ve never seen this interview before! Thank you. And yes, he did exactly what he said here.
  7. I agree, that being said: isn’t this the most poetic way to fight oppression and make a point? Through art and song? It’s what he always has done - and frankly every artist with him. And then to know that the journey he has taken to get where he is now. To be blatantly direct, to the point, without dancing around it. In a language that is emotionally close to him, that must be incredibly freeing. People who know his background and who can relate to this in any way or form; regardless of sex or sexuality, will maybe also find the courage to be themselves and to take lightness in it. Because it is a light and easy melody. But shouldn’t this topic be light and easy? Yes we fight for our rights to be ourselves, but isn’t it the point to normalize who we are, so we don’t have to fight? And can just be? And just enjoy. I’ve wandered off a bit, but I think it can be interpreted as a powerful statement wrapped in an easy and dreamy melody.
  8. To be fair; for a non French speaker (like myself) “le beau temps” and “Louboutin” sound the same, especially in song. So “en baisse” and “on b**se” do, too Imagine if it’s hard for French natives to even hear it…we are all lost wouldn’t be surprised that’s exactly the intention!
  9. Well, there are certainly different levels of appreciation for each of his songs. There are songs of his that I tend to skip (GASP! I know! I’m such a bad fan ), there are songs that just rip my heart open. And then there are songs that are right in between. For me that’s this song. It’s a mellow feel-good-song. Although I do enjoy interpreting Mika’s songs to no end usually. This one being so explicit, it makes it a “oh, heehee! “ song with a “let’s just dance and go with the flow” and “worry about it tomorrow (if there is a tomorrow, in the face of the apocalypse!)”. I kinda agree here with Anna, it’s just feeling no talking, which is basically what the lyrics are , so I guess it fits, haha.
  10. Because it’s Mika I’m actually very relieved to hear it’s also hard for native French speakers. Then again, I hadn’t expected any different: Mika is a master in keeping it open to interpretation and that is exactly what he did. And it’s provoking, which is also what he is good at. This time not with dark lyrics and happy tunes, but he’s going the path of explicit wording (with still very much double meaning) and mellow tunes. I was not immediately hooked at a first listen, but for some reason I cannot stop listening to it, even if I am fully aware of the lyrics. It’s hypnotizing.
  11. I am convinced that he knows the double meaning and is enjoying this very much
  12. It’s a song of resistance, with a flower power kind of feel. That’s how I would describe it. And he is filming the music video for it now!? In the Netherlands!? My Dutch heart goes AAHHHHHHHHH
  13. I THINK HE IS! But then, my French is very limited. Or it’s just what I want to hear It’s catchy and naughty, complete tongue in cheek song. Listening to it this morning it’s catching me more than last night midnight.
  14. Or he just randomly chose to do something and decided to let everyone guess I do think there is a reference to heaven and the colour blue. Blue like the sky, I will always love the blue in you. May your head always bloom. For some reason I don’t think it’s necessarily about him, sitting on a cloud. It’s more about expanding the possibilities: the sky is the limit. He recently opened Atelier Mika, because he was tired of people telling him “no” or “it’s not possible”. If you surround yourself with people who will see the possibilities instead of the limitations, the sky truly is the limit. Before his family made it possible (which was also mentioned in “Le Divan”, now 10 years ago!), but now he is expanding his circle, so he can continue to create limitlessly.
  15. Wow that went fast!! I wonder how much they put up for sale to begin with. Don’t want to be giving him carpal tunnel syndrome now with all the vinyls he has to sign
  16. I actually do know, I just wanted to make a phonetic joke, but that doesn’t work in writing does it I do however make increasingly more mistakes in English, since I don’t use it as often as I used to. That for someone being raised bilingual (English/Dutch) Yes, I have noticed the colour theme and I really am curious to know what the story is. For all albums actually. On the other hand I also don’t want him to tell us until I have formed my own interpretation. Oh the struggle of curiosity!!
  17. Look at him manifesting what he wants - he did play there a few years later!
  18. Ha! Direct gemaild! Wishful thinking maar hey, niet geschoten altijd mis toch!?
  19. When I first saw the album cover I felt it was both beautiful as it made me feel uneasy, because it’s inviting yet provoking. I’m glad to read I am not the only one! I agree with @Herothat there is something very destabilized in there, I also find @mellody’s observation and @CharlotteL’s interpretation a very good one with the colours. And @TinyLove_CJyou and the yoke just made me laugh out loud. “Am I a yoke to you!?!?” There are a lot of contrasts in this album cover. The first thing I noticed are the colours: around him it’s pastel and he himself is portrayed in harsher and stronger colours. Showcasing a broader colour palette. Showing different colours of him, a side of him that is very much part of him. It’s symbolic form of honestly. When I compare the portraits I have made from the beginning until now, I have noticed that I have expanded my colour palette and also have added more nuances, as I familiarize myself more with his work and partly what he shows us of himself. I think it’s a metaphor he is using as well. The logo going from solid to liquid, then him sitting on a cloud in the sky and well, @Hero’s reference to the sun shining out of his… : what if they are the elements? Earth, water, wind and he is fire (and no, I did not say “FIYAAA” in my head, no I didn’t… okay maybe I did! ). Going back to the basics (basic elements), something grounding. Also him in the sky is a separation, from him to the world or the world to him. As a citizen of the world you can’t be defined by one place, culture or language, is my personal experience. You don’t really belong, but that is okay. Because you belong where your heart is. And maybe it is a reference that his heart is now between heaven and earth.
