Le phénomène est vieux comme le show-biz, et très ancien dans la musique classique, mais il semble s'accroître. "Il y a d'abord eu la vogue des princes arabes, capables de s'offrir en toute discrétion des stars comme Céline Dion, Mariah Carey ou Diana Ross, explique Angelo Copée, un des responsables de la société de production de spectacles Nous Productions. Aujourd'hui, des pays comme l'Inde, la Chine ou la Russie possèdent une jeune génération de milliardaires, en fait des consommateurs de pop, capables de dépenser des sommes colossales pour satisfaire leurs caprices ou impressionner leurs partenaires." En Russie, les oligarques semblent prêts à tout. Roman Abramovitch est le plus célèbre. Propriétaire du club anglais de football de Chelsea, il s'est offert, le 12 juin, pour plus de 1,5 million d'euros, un concert de la chanteuse soul Amy Winehouse, à l'occasion de l'inauguration, à Moscou, de sa galerie d'art, devant deux cents invités. Quelques mois avant, il avait organisé, pour les 16 ans de sa fille, une soirée dans un club de Londres avec cocktails sans alcool et deux groupes branchés du moment, les Anglais de Klaxons et les Brésiliens de CSS. Autres exemples chez les Russes : la performance de Shakira et de Christina Aguilera, contre 2,5 millions d'euros, pour le mariage du banquier Andreï Melnichenko, ou les 5,2 millions d'euros que devrait toucher Elton John, en 2009, pour les noces d'une autre fortune locale. Le président russe lui-même, Dmitri Medvedev, fan déclaré de hard rock, a convié, en février, le groupe Deep Purple et la chanteuse Tina Turner à se produire au Kremlin pour les 15 ans du géant de l'énergie Gazprom. Les artistes auraient touché près de 1,5 million d'euros chacun. Le record revient aux Rolling Stones, qui auraient perçu en 2007 près de 6 millions d'euros pour un concert privé aux Etats-Unis. Les icônes du rock avaient déjà joué - pour 5 millions d'euros - à l'occasion des 60 ans d'un milliardaire texan. En France, le Festival de Cannes, le Grand Prix de formule 1 de Monaco, ou encore les migrations de "people" vers Saint-Tropez, favorisent les concerts privés. Certains gardent des souvenirs émus de performances de stars du rap comme Snoop Dog sur le yacht d'un milliardaire pakistanais ou dans des villas de rêve avec jolies filles et champagne. Des Français font aussi des folies musicales. Comme le patron du groupe financier Carmignac gestion, fan de Lou Reed, offrant à 500 invités un concert de son idole, le 21 janvier, au Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. En 2007, une avocate d'affaires s'est "payé" Mika, chanteur pop en vogue, pour une somme qu'on dit astronomique. Il existe aux Etats-Unis des sociétés spécialisées dans les concerts privés. "Leurs chanteurs se vantent sans problème d'en faire, alors que les Français ont souvent honte de cet argent, et peur pour leur image", explique Cyril Prieur, le manager de Patricia Kaas, présente sur le secteur depuis quinze ans, en particulier en Allemagne et en Russie. En revanche, producteurs et agents restent discrets sur les cachets - des espèces circuleraient sous le manteau. Mais les tarifs pratiqués seraient de deux à quatre fois supérieurs à ceux obtenus pour un concert public. Aussi, l'Américain Steve Einzig, le PDG de l'entreprise spécialisée Booking Entertainment en énumère les multiples attraits : "Ces concerts permettent aux artistes de toucher un maximum de revenus avec un minimum de pression. Ils jouent souvent dans de beaux endroits, ils n'ont pas à se préoccuper du nombre de places vendues, le spectacle se résume à un petit "best of". Après le concert, ils font quelques photos." Cyril Prieur pointe un dernier atout : "Avec la crise du disque, il est important de trouver d'autres sources de revenus que les ventes de disques et les tournées." Yes, that is what I thought of when I read this post. When he told us he'd put a lot of his own money into the Paris show, I bet you it comes from these gigs... Let's see what it all comes out as...With the new kb player and all, things will probably be quite "exciting" for Mika and co the next couple of weeks, trying to adapt to everything and plan this massive "super fabulous" show . It's quite incredible that he wants this show to go so well that's he's prepared to do that... I so wish yet again that I was going...
