Thanks for posting :naughty:

IMO this performance was quite awkward, I didn't like it at all (and this hardly happens) but probably he was just tired?

He did the show straight after the gig so he must have been quite tired:thumb_yello:

no. the finalists just dont know how to match with him. he has a very high voice range and they didnt practice before performing (i guess). and then, they mistaken the lyrics. and, they didnt dance along.

i hate it.

the finalists ruined mika's performance.

The funny thing is that on twitter everybody said how amazing he was,so,as long as people were pleased.....And I'm sure he was tired, and they didn't have time for rehearsals.

@Mikasister: I guess he chose Relax because he thought everyone knows this song........obviously he was wrong

Well, at least he made a good performace even after doing a concert that was definitely going to be very tiring.... Unfortunately, the competitors were not prepared for this performance and they did a bit of mess: he has done everything possible to try to hide it but in vain. :dunno:

i don't think it was his performance that was awkward, but it all felt awkward a) because of the finalists and b) because the stage was simply too big for this performance. also those firework thingies, it just was placed weirdly in the middle of the song, it was more like "oh look, we can do fireworks on tv", than supporting the performance in any way. maybe it was also the camera people, i don't know - but i think mika did the best performance he could do under the given circumstances.

Mika was amazing as always. It's these silly shows that are so embarrassing  Do they really need to have that many singers on stage? If they can't sing the song they should at least learn to play an instrument for it. It's just not about music to me. But I'm going to whine about that again, sorry. Bottom line is: Mika is too talented and awesome to be on these stupid shows imo.

Having read the thread before I looked at the performance, I wasn't sure what to expect. Yes, the finalists did mess up, but they only made fools of themselves, not Mika. He came across really well, keeping his cool while all around were loosing theirs, and he was so humble and kind in his interview. He did so well under the circumstances.

Also, as someone else said, he probably chose Relax because it's well known there. Maybe the songs from 'Origin' are not known there yet. If they liked him in Indonesia they, hopefully, will go out and buy the album. That's my take on it anyway. I did feel a bit sorry for the finalists. I bet they felt awful about their performances, but they should have had chance to practice Relax, before they sang it with Mika.

you guys sure are right. the fireworks decoration was so tacky in every way. maybe they put them there so they can cover the awkward performance.

the finalists sure are bufoons. i hate them for not practicing the song. or maybe they were been told to perform with mika in the last minute. so it's the management's fault. i found some of them improvising the note to make them look professional and cool, but it turned out to be a disaster. at least, you know the rule, 'dont try to hit a high note if you dont know how to'. i am really pissed by this show. really.

they seem have no respect toward an international guest star. it seems like they do that so they'll look 'classy' by having a chance to perform with one of the judges in x factor italy. so they underestimate the art of performing. didnt they realise they're making fun of themselves on stage? in front of millions of people?

disappointing.

Oh yes it sucked pretty badly. :aah: I was working from home yesterday so I had the stream going on in the background throughout the show and I noticed two things about the contestants. First that they had interesting kind of raspy voices that would make them really great rock vocalists with some training. And secondly that they seemed virtually tone deaf when they were singing English pop songs. I always find non English speakers singing in English grating but this was different. They just were just constantly off pitch. I don't know if they were exceptionally bad singers or maybe it is just a tonal thing with the Indonesian language and it's difficult to learn to sing English pop style. :dunno: Anyway it was painful but oddly fascinating. :teehee:

But really I wouldn't worry about how Mika came across. Anyone who could sit through this show and actually enjoy these performances is going to think Mika was exceptionally amazing. :naughty:

Anyway I am more interested in your review of the gig and what it was like to see Mika for the first time after waiting so long.

Yeah  I guess it's hit and miss though. I know it sounds incredibly biased but things went really well on Star Academie. Also Australian Idol was a bit silly with the plants they had in the audience doing a flash mob thing. But overall it was good because it was the finale and outside the Opera House, etc.

But you know even in the US the whole Idol/X Factor thing is a dying franchise. They have record low ratings with Idol and are talking about cancelling it. I don't understand Mika jumping on this ship as it's about to sink. Harry Connick Jr. joked the other day that he would consider becoming a judge - if they paid him $600 million.

Mika holding Chiara up as an example of why Italian X Factor is different and better from all the rest sounds ridiculously to me. She is barely average compared to some of the talent that has come through the US and UK. But I think people are just tiring of these shows and it's always been more about the judges and the soap opera with the contestants than it's ever been about music as far as public appeal goes. The singing doesn't matter. Most of the winners disappear into oblivion and some of the most successful singers were losers.

well, i wouldn't blame it on the finalists. like you say, it might have been the producer's fault, and maybe they just had to go out there without having a chance to practise. they're no professionals, and i think the reason why they didn't dance was because they had stage fright, in fact they looked rather shy to me. maybe even the producer told them "mika is a big star and you are nothing, so keep in the background". who knows. i don't know if they performed better in the other shows/in their own performances, but if they didn't, then it's the jury's fault that they didn't throw them out earlier - or no ones fault, maybe they just had no better candidates.

whatever, in any case i don't even think it was all 6 of them who sang so out of tune, it might just have been 1 or 2 of them who shouted the wrong notes in the microphone, that was enough for everyone to hear it. and maybe the rest of them isn't even that bad. :wink2: i have respect for them because i know what it's like to stand on a stage and be scared to death to mess it up. if they had no possibility to practise then i feel really sorry for them - you just cannot do a great performance without practising a LOT! maybe you can if you have years and years of experience as a performer, but definitely not if you're just starting your singing carreer as the candidate in a show like x-factor. :wink2:

actually, it's not in the matter of indonesian language or anything. it's just they cannot reach mika's voice range. it is too high. i have to do a warm-up every time i want to sing it so i can hit the highest note.

at first, i thought they were really innocent. but after that, i found an article from the interview of one of the finalist.

the finalist said that she was ashamed because mika is jumping around and she stoned behind him.. so awkward. <-(so far, it is fine to me).

and then, she said that she knew they were gonna do a collaboration with mika on stage. and she stated that she didnt do anything special (preparation). she said she only know the title of the song (maybe she meant, familiar). then, she stated that she was gonna do the chorus part 'Relax, take it easy'.

CLEARLY the finalists underestimate the big star. you know it is a very important thing when you sing with a big star. so you have to practice. at least, know the lyrics, listen to the music, or anything.

by saying that she didnt do anything special on the preparation, really insulted me as mika's fan. what was she thinking? 'oh, i only sing the chorus, i shouldnt worry about that'. while, in fact, she only know the title, not the song.

if she was afraid to mess up, then she should probably do a special preparation.

and yes, not all of the finalists hit the wrong note. it was actually the boys. they're some kind of boy band or vocal group or something. and i think, they're trying to improvise but couldnt hit the note right.

okay, i understand that they miss the note so badly. but, mistaken the lyrics? it was an ultimate insult. and for the boys, please, dont improvise if you dont know how the song goes. your improvise was bad..

oh, sorry if get furious..:blush-anim-cl: i just hate the way they treat mika on stage. :fisch:

I understand your discontentment. I felt the same about the Star Academy performance a few months ago (the French one). The medley was a disaster and the duet far from good. Of course I'm talking about the contestants' parts and not Mika's.

He is too good for this.

In a way I understand why he liked Chiara in Italy because she's nothing compared to these other contestants.
