Muriel Robin re-enacts her sketches with a 5-star cast for TF1

  • By Sylvain Merle
  • 4th January, 2020 at 6:58 am, modified January 4, 2020 at 7:57 am

This is casting! After "The first forgotten" and « Jacqueline Sauvage »,, two audience boxes on TF1, Muriel Robin is filming from this Monday a new fiction for the front page, surrounded by a crazy cast. For this evening, produced by Carson, she invites her friends to play the characters to whom she has been addressing for thirty years in her cult sketches and which, for some, she replayed on stage this fall in « Et Pof! »

Around the "patron", as it is customary to call it, a myriad of actors, singers or entertainers for one of the most famous evenings of the year! Thus, Vanessa Paradis will play the daughter of Muriel Robin in "The wedding", Jean Reno will be her husband and Charlotte Rampling the English nurse of "The jacket". For “L'addition” and this famous spat at the end of the meal, we will find around the restaurant table, among others, Estelle Lefébure, Sylvie Testud, Vincent Dedienne or Kenji Girac.

Two filming sessions

Another sequence that promises to be tasty, "The hair salon" with clients and employees Françoise Fabian and Line Renaud, Mimie Mathy, Anouchka Delon, Alexandra Lamy, Mathilde Seigner and Michel Fau. As for Corinne Masiero, the inescapable « Capitaine Marleau » of France 3, she will slip her irresistible ch'ti accent in "The barbecue".

The shooting of the fiction which does not yet have a title will therefore begin this Monday in Paris and the Paris region, in natural settings and studios. It will take place in two one-week sessions and we will once again come across Pierre Palmade - with whom she had co-written most of the ten sketches that will be adapted -, but also the actors Dominique Besnehard, Pierre Arditi, François Berléand, Michèle Bernier, Laurent Gamelon, Régis Laspalès, Yves Renier and Marthe Villalonga.

The distribution will also include the singers Mika, Christophe Willem, Catherine Lara, Dave, the humorists, Jonathan Lambert, Jeanfi Janssens and Élie Semoun, or even the hosts and other TV columnists Jean-Pierre Foucault, Harry Roselmack, Anne-Claire Coudray, Thierry Ardisson, Nikos Aliagas, Christophe Dechavanne and Roselyne Bachelot.

:tears: I didn't think his record sales in France were that bad, his shows are selling pretty well there?! Lots more than 27,000 must've come to see him live, just Paris was about half of that already! And he did so much Promo last summer! Maybe it's because there's no French song on the album this time, I think at the beginning of the article they write that 9 of the Top Ten are French or Francophone albums. :dunno:

I don't understand tho what numbers are included there - just physical sales, or also online sales and streaming?

The answer is in the article ,  streaming and online sales are included

It's very disappointing but when Aya Nakamura is number 10 ……..I'm just speechless :dunno::shocked:🙉

I just can't understand why they don't sell the CD at the merchandising shop….many gigs were sold out in France , I'm sure they'd be able to sell a big amount of CD after the shows

That's a good point. Maybe even signed CD's, instead of signed posters or shirts... maybe they just didn't think about this option, or maybe it's one of those complicated details in the music industry - I don't know if they can count sales at the merch stand to the record sales of the country where it's sold - like, if the merch company pays their taxes in the US, it might count to the US sales, even though it's sold in France, or something like that? Tho that couldn't hurt either, I guess.

@dcdeb maybe worth mentioning to Mika's team? :dunno:

Hello, I don't write here a lot, even if I always read this forum. Sorry in advance for the mistakes and the long post, but tonight I'm a little tired and I don't usually write in English, I mostly read... I am not an expert on this subject, but recently I have read some articles and forums on the music industry, partly out of curiosity, partly because Mika was talking a little about it in some interviews and I think that it could be useful to remember some things.
I think that a career today is more complex than just album sales: sure they are good, but in many cases physical sales, streaming and concerts are completely different things. First of all, it must be considered that the physical sales of albums have dropped a lot in the last 4-5 years, since NPIH, in some countries more than others.
For example, in Italy, many pop singers who previously obtained platinum (50,000 sales) or double platinum (100,000) now struggle to get a gold certification (25,000). Some record companies also organize many signing sessions to sell a few more copies or even make many deluxe versions of the same album... Many of these artists, however, still have good tours in theaters or arenas. On the contrary, many rap and trap singers get lots of certifications of singles and albums thanks to streaming and are on top of the charts, but they can only play in clubs. It's a generalization (for example, there are also some pop performers who do very well with singles, without being able to have a real tour, and rap singers who play in arenas), but it gives an idea of the situation. In France I think something similar happens, but with sales higher than Italy.
Then, it must be taken into account that streaming favors younger singers, who are "born" with this method of listening to music, have average young listeners who perhaps have much more time to listen to streaming and are often highly promoted on Spotify and others platforms: they enter the best-known playlists, at the top positions. I don't really understand how it works, but I think that there are also big investments by record companies on some singers.
In the US often tours have bundles (concert tickets + cds) that make album sales look bigger.
I think that most of Mika's sales are physical albums, because in the French physical charts the album is higher than the one that combines all the "sales".
Another factor to keep in mind is that, in France and in Italy, in the album charts there are very few English/US album and that mostly they have not made huge numbers, apart from the soundtracks of Lady Gaga and Queens, Billie Eilish (but she is at her first album and I think it has not reached platinum yet in France) and a couple of singers and bands that are very strong in streaming.
Another thing: compared to the two previous albums, there is only one version (no deluxe), there are no songs in French and there are 13 tracks (it seems that streaming favors albums with a lot of songs, even if sometimes that's not a good thing for the quality of the album... I have listened to some of these very very long albums with tracks that are all the same...).
Finally, for this article, they relied on year-round sales, while Mika's album has a life of three months. Let's wait and see if the next year a deluxe version will be released or some songs in French or English that will enter the playlists. I remember that even with the previous album there was talk of disappointment in sales, to finally reach platinum both in Italy and in France with the repack.
Reading the online forums, I saw that many fandoms today focus almost obsessively on streaming (and many singers keep asking their fans to stream...). I honestly think that focusing too much on figures and certifications makes you lose the pleasure of listening to music and, to tell the truth, I admire Mika for not doing this, even if probably it's not the best thing for his sales. Anyway, if someone uses Spotify, Deezer or another platform (in Italy and France only with paid accounts and not on Youtube), you can use them more often instead of listening to your cd, so it can contribute to sales. I made a subscription a few years ago and I no longer buy CDs (apart from Mika's) because I find it more practical to listen to music like this.
In many articles that I have read it's said that in a few years the CDs will disappear and that real careers are now based on live music. So maybe that's one of the reason he's now concentrating more on touring many countries and doing festivals (like Coachella).

I will certainly mention it, but like you I'm not sure how those sales would count for overall record sales.

However, also I think @mariafrancy makes a lot of good points. The industry has changed so much, I think it's even more important than ever for us to stream Mika's music on Spotify, Deezer, Apple+, etc. It seems that artists who are streamed more often are also more often in the public's eye and mind, so perhaps we should focus our attention on doing more of that. We should buy the CD or the record, of course, but when we listen, we should try to stream as much as possible. I know that's what I've been doing.  Another thing that I think has affected sales for this album is that there was not one particular single that was pushed as THE single. It seems so often that album sales are tied to the popularity of a hot single, and MNIMH didn't really have that. I'm not complaining, though -- just making an observation. :)

VRAI.

Public : 44 € (fosse debout). Renseignements et réservations sur le site www.zenith-caen.fr

Mika at the Zenith in Caen: five anecdotes you don't know

Exuberant character and terribly media, Mika, little stingy in confidences, has often lifted the veil on his eventful life. However, there may still be some facets of the character that remain unknown. Check.

TRUE or FALSE

Mika had to fight a serious handicap before starting an artistic career. Indeed, as a child, he was agoraphobic.

FALSE.

Although he was a shy and reserved child, Mika never feared crowds. However, at the age of 8, he suddenly became dyslexic, unable to read or speak properly. This disorder was declared following the trauma caused by the detention of his father, a banker, in the American Embassy in Kuwait, during the Gulf War in 1991. Became the beating of his classmates and harassed by a teacher, he found the strength to get by thanks to the support of his family and his love for music.

Mika is not only a talented singer and musician, he is also a fashion designer for a clothing brand.

TRUE.

Mika would not be Mika without her eccentric outfits and her inimitable look. His stage costumes, designed and produced with the family, caught the eye of the Belgian designer JBC who asked him to design a few models for his 2013 collection. Mika did not have to pray and created a line of clothing for men, women and girls, inspired by the 1920s.

Mika, a child, had trouble leaving with the Mitterrand family.

TRUE.

A little rowdy, the boy used to roller skate in the family apartment. "The neighbor below knocked on the door, she cried and said:" Please stop the noise, "" Mika revealed on Sunday in a famous TV show hosted by Michel Drucker. The singer remembers that the lady received from time to time, "gentlemen in black, equipped with microphones". And for good reason, this neighbor nicknamed by Mika, "Madame Patate", was none other than Edith Cahier, the sister-in-law of the President of the Republic François Mitterrand, mother of the future minister Frédéric Mitterrand. And when the men in black disembarked, "it's because the president was having lunch in the apartment below."

Mika has a reputation for being a haughty artist, careless of his fans.

FALSE.

And archival! An anecdote proves it. On December 19, in Lille, Mika meets a young fan and his mother near the Zenith where he will give a concert the same evening. The mother calls the singer to tell him that her son spends his days playing his songs on the piano. Mika goes on without answering. "I never speak before a concert to preserve my voice," he will explain later. But confused at the idea of having offended his young admirer, he will make this announcement in the middle of the show: "If you are in the room join me on stage", he invites to the microphone. Standing on his piano, Mika will sing Lollipop, accompanied by the young Aldéric, 11 years old, who will remember this moment all his life.

One of his songs was taken up by ... a squirrel.

TRUE.

Relax, Take It Easy is one of Mika's biggest hits. First to the hit parade in seventeen countries, from England to Bulgaria via Italy, Canada and of course France, this song also hit the headlines in Finland, thanks to the squirrel singing Pikku Orava. This fictional animal specializes in international covers. In his repertoire: Still Loving You, by Scorpions, La Camisa Negra by Juanes, La Bamba by Rtichie Valens or I Feel Good by James Brown.

VRAI.

Spoiler

Coming out of a coma thanks to Mika, the Vosgienne Manon dreams of saying thank you this Thursday in Montbéliard

Manon Scheyer's bedroom is a real museum dedicated to singer Mika. Posters, press clippings and even a piano which she painted herself to make a true copy of that of the singer. What a real fan. But a fan whose existence is intimately linked to the artist since a drama that could have cost her life. On May 18, 2018, the 18-year-old girl took the bus to go to her high school in Remiremont. Going down, she takes over the establishment when suddenly she collapses. A ruptured aneurysm has just struck her. His friends panic, alert the emergency services and his relatives. Manon is then unconscious. "I don't remember anything," she says. Because Manon got out of it. "At the start, I thought she was feeling unwell," recalls her very moved mother Christelle. "When the emergency services asked me if she had ever had any problems, I understood that she was not conscious." Manon was then in serious condition by helicopter to Nancy central hospital. "At that time, they didn't know if she would arrive alive," says her mom.

CD looped around the room

Then will follow three long weeks of coma during which the doctors will try several operations. With more or less success. But sometimes medicine is not enough and other stimulants are needed. That's where pop star Mika comes in. "We brought Manon a photo of her horse, one of Mika but especially CDs of the singer who were playing in loop. In the long run, the nurses could not take it any more, "smiles today Christine, a friend of the family. But each time Mika's voice sounded, Manon's body reacted. A miracle ? Who knows ... "He saved my life", slips Manon, "I have been since 2015. When my parents separated, it was he who had already helped me up the slope". Her dream now is to be able to say thank you.

A meeting in Montbéliard?

Manon and his mother only attended one concert by Mika, at the Arènes de Nîmes. And they are giving it back this Thursday January 30 to the Axone de Montbéliard. Christelle then wants to try the impossible: to allow her daughter to meet her idol so that she can thank him orally. "When she was in a coma, I told her that she had to hold on to see Mika." She will then try everything for that. The singer is warned, he will play Montbéliard in front of a very special fan with whom he could share this magnificent story.

Manon sends a touching message to her idol.

In 2018, Manon Scheyer fell into a coma following a ruptured aneurysm.

She owes her alarm clock to her idol, Mika, whom she listened to repeatedly in the hospital.

A pop communion with Mika, king of the show show

Concert in Luxembourg

ESCH-BELVAL - On Wednesday, the pop singer had an appointment with his fans at the Rockhal. For a colorful and generous show.

"Luxembourg, it's been a while. The last time, the room was smaller, but it sang loudly, ”Mika remembered, just to motivate the troops. If he has not released an album for five years, the Briton with perfect French has gained popularity, "The Voice" having been there.

A scenography made of drawings and sculptures opened on a stage projection, allowing the native of Beirut to follow the choreographies, to move sensually in his arched royal blue costume or to rise with his piano, on " Tiny Love ”.

"I am superstitious and jealous"

If he loves wearing glamorous and eccentric outfits, Mika also knows how to drop the mask. With his fifth album released last October, "My Name Is Michael Holbrook", the 36-year-old singer offered his most personal album. "I am superstitious and jealous" admitted in the preamble to "Dear Jalousy" the one who broke a declaration of love to his parents, the "Adam & Eve of his Big Bang".

Charismatic showman, Mika offered real communion to his audience. His first hits contributed to this, and the star took a walkabout on "Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)", made the whole Rockhal dance with "Relax (Tale It Easy)", "Origin of Love" or "Love Today" . Without forgetting his biggest hit, "Grace Kelly", as a reminder, with his release of balloons.

Thank you! Any of the French speakers, what does Mika say in the last part of the interview? I just understand something about "normal life"...

I think before that, he talks about keeping his colours (what he said before) and something about the 2 parts of him, Mika and Michael, being equally important, if I understand it right.

The videos are from Strasbourg, I can see some of the fanactions on them. :wub2:

Huh? Why doesn't he want that? Is that all he says, or do I miss a connection there to something else he says?
