LYRICS

TRANSLATION INTO ENGLISH thanks Camille*!

I try my best but it's never easy to translate lyrics

Karen is 20, yes but Karen has nothing else, and time is already going by

Leaning on the bar Rue des Martyrs, 82, Karen looks back on her life

She would like a better life than her brothers and sisters who fell into line

Karen says that Paris is big, that another life is waiting for her,

She says nobody will buy her

So Karen relies on her lipstick and moves

She says she's better than this

Karen doesn't care she's free, she's free

Karen says she'll be a star, she sleeps with bastards

She says people will envy her

Karen always drinks in your honour, sings other people's songs,

Sings her dreams and ours

Sings at the Bistrot 82

Karen is 30 but she's got nothing else to do

Not even having children not even dusting

She lives with her mother two streets away from the 82

One day love came

It knocked on her door, she shouted at it to make it leave

'I don't open to strangers'

Karen says that Paris is big, that another life is waiting for her,

She says nobody will buy her

Karen still relies on her lipstick and moves

She says she's better than this

Karen doesn't care she's free, she's free

Karen says she'll be a star, she sleeps with bastards

She says people will envy her

Karen always drinks in your honour, sings other people's songs,

Sings her dreams and ours

Sings at the Bistrot 82

Karen is 50, she's got no allowances no money

She smokes and coughs on a small white bed

She thinks about going to have a drink at the 82

But she will die just before

On her old rotten mattress

This wretched spring which is hurting her sides

Karen says that life is hard, that she's heading for disaster

She says nobody will stop her

Karen then places her bet on darkness

Closes her eyes and goes away

Without understanding why, Karen goes away, she's free, she's free

Karen says she'll be a star, she sleeps with bastards

She says people will envy her

Karen always drinks in your honour, sings other people's songs,

Sings her dreams and ours

Sings at the Bistrot 82

i can't help but notice how much more confident he seems to be singing this song versus Elle me dit :wub2:

Yes, I felt the same -- he seemed much more comfortable with it. I love

watching him sing it. :wub2:

So guylaine -- how many times have you listened to it?

Have you figured out the lyrics yet? :naughty:

(I'm waiting... :wink2: )

well, i try, but it's quite hard from this recording :naughty:

here are random sentences i picked up & translated :aah:

she always says she will be a star, she sleeps with a jerk (i'm using the milder of all translation for this word :teehee:) & sings other's songs

she lives with her mom 2 streets down from 82 des martyrs

he came by her house & knocked at the door

she told him she doesn't answer to strangers

she sings at the 82 des martyrs

at 50, she still doesn't have money

she sleeps on a rotted mattress & the springs dig into her side

but she is freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

:lmfao:

does that help? :naughty:

Yeah, just have sort of an idea about it! :roftl: Thanks! And definitely, he seems so much more confident singing this song than Elle me dit. I think this suits him way better than Elle me dit though. :naughty:

And the translation too.

I think I know the reason why the 3rd album's name is the origin of love.

I'm in love with it.

Thank you very much for uploading and thanks to whoever recorded it. Brilliant quality :wub2:

I have to say after having listened for the first time it doesn't do much to me.

I put it down to the fact that it is in French and I can't understand much from just listening. I'm sure I will like it better when I know the lyrics.

Also, I hear plenty of influences from Walking in Memphis (again :roftl:), Viva la Vida and a lot of stuff I know I know but can't allocate right now. Not that I think it's bad. You know I like how he can be quite efficient with what he's given. :biggrin2:

As for Mr. Violet, he said for him French only works for those classical chanson-y songs. :teehee:

On a side note: Having had a proper look on his clothing, I have to say I don't find it all that bad. For Mika himself it's not really a massive change. He often wore tailcoats on stage, so this is not really a big deal for me. :dunno:

I really like him wearing white, though.

Viva la vida! Exactly what I thought at 0:57

I already love Elle Me Dit and now this  ? It's way better than EMD. I don't speak French, but it still has a magical effect on me. It doesn't matter if I understand what he says or not, I can feel to emotions that he put into the songs and this is, what matter to me. :teehee:

I agree with you and Mr Violet. :thumb_yello::teehee:

The Viva la Vida bit comes from a particular remix of Rain - maybe he forgot that sample was not his own in the first place :roftl:

Actually, isn't this the bit Coldplay was sued for copyright infridgement? He'd better be careful.

I am pleased his best songs are still in English. Blame it on the Weather is a masterpiece - I hope he won't spoil it with the production.

This song is simply pure beauty.:wub2: Lyrics, his way of singing, upbeat changes (especially at 1.09.) makes me feel I'm in heaven.:blush-anim-cl:

And yes, the vibes of Cold Play sound are obvious and that can only be a new quality. :swoon:

Those are the scraps of lyrics I've caught so far

@crazyaboutmika Thank you for the lyrics. It is not helping me much though:dunno:

Perhaps those non-native French speakers who said they love the lyrics and can speak English will help us translate what he means as google translator is no real help.

Not feeling this at all. Sounds boring and dated to me, but I am going to chalk that up to the video. I think it may be one of the ones I would much prefer live (like Any Other World). Going to have to reserve any real judgement until I hear it for myself.
