It was short (only about 35-40 minutes) but AMAZING!

The first thing to be noticed was that the WHOLE band has been exchanged!

Then was Mika's new/straight and short hair :wink2:

They opened with Relax which had a completely different intro than usual and the audience only recognised it after the famous "uaaaaaaaaa-aaaaaaaa-aaaaaaaaa":naughty:

Next were Blame It On The Girls and Love Today. The audience was having fun and the crowd was really dense (despite the fact that just before Mika went on stage there was a loose crowd dancing here and there and you could easily get a spot in the first or second row). It only became crowded minutes before the show.

Then it was time for Make You Happy which sounded unbelievable. Even the syntesier-generated voice sounded good, not to mention Mika's voice in the verses.

Lollipop came next and what a surprise it was!!! The beginning sounded almost like Stuck In The Middle (I was sure that was what we were going to hear next) and then the tune suddenly changed to Lollipop:thumb_yello:

The arrangement was different too and one of the guitarists played clarinet!

Mika introduced Celebrate afterwards as a song they'd never played live before. Till today it wasn't my favourite at all and I never saw it as a song with a live potential. He really surprised me! First of all he sang it as a duet with his new background singer. She has a great voice and established the contact with the audience soooo easily! It made me laugh when Mika caught her hands attempting to have a little dance together :wink2: Secondly, the song is so easily remembered that towards the end everyone around me was singing: "I want the whole world to celebrate!"

Unfortunately when we were all in party mood Mika announced the last song, Grace Kelly. There was no encore, no band introduction, he just wished everyone a great evening, they all took a bow and left the stage.

So, all in all, an afternoon full of surprises, new mysterious band members, new sound (which I definitely like) and Mika's vocals and stage expression at their best. :mikacool:

Thank you so much for the report! I'm glad you guys had fun and it's too bad it was too short! :/

Did Mika meet any fans afterwards?

Hi, a quick summary of the day:

Before the gig:

- Arrived at the park at around 1-1.30 with friends. There were hardly any people around – no people by stages, either -, so it was kind of funny to suddenly see a bunch of people sprinting out of somewhere to get to what it looked like another stage. We guessed they were Mika fans and laughed how they were so easy to spot :teehee: . We cheked if there was anyone else near that empty field but it was only those 15 or so people so we went to have some food and look around

- Returned to see Little Boots at Mika's stage. It was still the same scenario audience-wise, but there were some people dancing a bit further back. Unfortunately, by the time she came on our head was full of the monotonous doom doom from the previous DJ’s set :insane: so left to see Sam Sparro instead.

- Sam was good – although not particularly exciting. And now he looks like the pianist from the Sparks  (:naughty: ) I liked the way he performed Black and Gold: jumping into the audience and having a good time with them.

- Returned to the other stage where Mika was supposed to stay. It was already around 4pm but still the same situation: front row plus people dancing behind. I sat down a bit by the side as I only slept 3.5 hours today due to my early plane.

- Saw tweet from Enigma feeling lonely and about to lose it due to the music played by some DJs so we went to find and rescue her. :roftl: We had a lovely chat, trying to figure out if the act changed while we were talking as there was supposed to be one more ’performer’ before Mika. It was actually difficult to see even who the performer was as there were several people hanging around on stage nonchantly. It must have been for this reason that someone from front or second row decided to film us instead  We tried to indicate to her with all sorts of international signs that we did not like the idea but we failed to get the message through so I guess she was from far away... perhaps another planet :dunno: Anyway, if she is from MFC or is reading this: some of us simply wanted to let you know that it is extremely rude to film other people without their consent.

- So, at about quarter to 5 (Mika was to start at 5pm) we stood up and danced our way to third row. We had perfect view, needless to say.

The gig:

- Mika started with Relax, as usual, sounding great. Then he sang BIOTG, Love Today and I think it was this point when he sang Make You Happy. We all cheared – it sounded good. I did miss the ’silly electoronic bits’ though. I think those should be added as they do have a funtion there.

- Then came some musical treat with musical elements that would remind you of LICM songs. At some point the pianist started to play some charleston on the clarinet and I thought it would be Stuck in the Middle but it turned to be Lollipop. That was a nice treat. The pianist / clarinet player is already my favourite from the band :teehee: I think it was probably him playing the sax at that private gig as well – I can’t remember it now.

- After that he played Celebrate and the audience reacted well, jumping to it...etc. The backing singer (who actually looks familiar to me)seems to have been chosen to add some hip-hop and R&B elements to songs in the future. So it was obviously her asking the crowd to raise their hands ..etc– some of Pharrell’s part. Actually, when it was that part, the song got to a hault but in a slightly inconvenient way – it was a bit long and messy. I think that part could be worked on. There could also be some more layers added to the beginning as it sounds a bit plain. However, the end / Coda sounds great. I personally think that should be longer as it is more interesting with the 3 voices. People could easily sing that one and it ends too soon.

- He finished with GK :punk:

It was a great gig and I had a good time. I hadn’t seen him for a year so I am really pleased I could arrange this trip in the last minute.

After the gig:- ’Bumped into’ Mama P, so took the opportunity to send a message with her to him and she took the time to take a photo of the familiar faces. :biggrin2:

My review:

Before the gig:

I arrived at about 12pm- but I thought I was going to be late as I took the car and there was bad traffic! :sneaky2: Anyway, I went looking for where Mika was but I got lost, so it took me a while to get there! I got there and managed to get a place in the second row with Eloise and Mair- which was fun because of their funny dance moves (e.g. big fish, little fish...). The stage was also a little small- but Mika and the other acts worked it! So some really WEIRD DJ's were on before- and I hate that type of music, so us three went wondering around for a bit and wrote on a wall (don't worry we were allowed to :aah: ), whilst going back 5 minutes later! So my feet were starting to hurt, and this one DJ before Mika had been on for more than an hour, and you could see people just wanted the boss! So they started to set up his band set, and underneath the stage we saw feet, so we kept looking out for Mika's feet (in a non- creepy way) but were unsuccesful! :mf_rosetinted: Finally we saw his mum, Yasmine and Paloma (who looked healthy and well) sit/stand in the corner of the stage whilst the band FINALLY set up, and then the fun began!

The gig:

This gig was my first ever Mika gig so I was screaming like mental through all of it! :blush-anim-cl: He first sang Relax- which was really good and I was amazed by how well he hit the high notes in it. Then I think it was BIOTG, which everyone went mental and clapped like crazy! After it was either Love Today, Make You Happy or Lollipop- all were fantastic, especially MYH as he used the 'electro' voice and that was really good live! Lollipop was interesting as one of his band used a clarinet- and as everybody said we all thought it was Stuck In The Middle, but it worked really well! Everyone knew the words to Love Today, which made Mika smiled a little (as you could tell he was a bit nervous). Next was Celebrate where I held up my sign that I made, and Eloise and Mair held up their's too. This was also where he looked at us all, and did a little smile :wub2: (because Eloise and Mair's posters said OK to match the lyrics)! Celebrate had that female backing singer too, who was very good and had a powerful voice! Last was Grace Kelly, and I was so upset that it was over! :( He sang it full of energy and seriously looked very happy! Most people knew all the words so I could barely hear him in some places too! :aah: Overall my fave performance was Celebrate- mainly because of him noticing me. :naughty:

After the gig:

Me, Mair and Eloise ran straight to an entrence near the stage, and waited for Mika to come out! :aah: The crowd round the entrence got bigger- and people started to push in! So Eloise managed to get to the front whilst me and Mair were pushed further back. :mf_rosetinted: He came out in the end- but only managed to sign a couple of things for other people, none for us three or the others near us! But it was a great experience to see him, especially as it was my first Mika gig too! :mikalove: Overall I had a great time, and now I can't remeber a thing!
